I thought it would be a good idea to put all the info about the korean fish server in one thread. Here's why:
Unfortunaly the foreign BW community is pretty thin and for those who cannot create games on Iccup it's becoming really difficult to get some serious 1v1 games.
The fish server is always crowded with ppl (korea still has a pretty active BW amateur community), the problem being that it's not that easy to get into fish when you're a foreigner. I, for one, had to go through multiple threads and guides and posts to get a correct setup in order to play on it.
Also it would nice to have our own channel (foreigners) so we could meet up on fish. If anyone wants to contribute to this, post in this thread and I'll edit the op.
What we need is : a full howto about fish from someone who knows the server well (how to get in, how to get games, how the ladder works, how the korean "bnetiquette" works, how do you use the different channels, how to activate wdetector for ladder games, how to use wjoiner etc..)
I'd do it myself if I could but unfortunaly I don't have the required knowledge. I'm ready to edit the OP to add all the info you'll post in this thread.
I'll start with this link in complement of the one I've posted above. You'll be able to download wlauncher which is mandatory to play on fish (kinda like iccup launcher), http://down.wlauncher.com/wLauncherSetup2.exe don't forget to edit your registry to update your server list (see 1st link)

As stated by dr.shrinker and me, wlauncher is mandatory if you want to play on fish http://down.wlauncher.com/wLauncherSetup2.exe Don't forget to uncheck everything but wlauncher at install because it comes bundled with a lot of crap. Once you've installed it, just double click on the icon and then press the green button on the bottom left side. Don't forget to tell the launcher where your BW is installed. (If someone has troubles with that I can post a screenshot)
If you want to understand how fish ranking (ELO based) works compared to ICCUP I suggest you to check iFU.pauline's post on this 1st page, there's a ton of info and a solid analysis of the system there.
Please remind that you don't need to play ranked games on fish. If you just want to fool around with D, D+ lvl players there's always a ton of melee games avaliable. Anyway you have to play 30 unranked games or stay connected for 24h to start playing ranked games.
[In order to enable the wlaucnher antihack which is called wdetector, you have to type in korean hangul chraracters (set up your keyboard to korean in windows, you can toggle between qwerty and kor by pressing alt gr) sksms gksrnrdls which means "I'm korean" I tried it myself but it didn't work, maybe someone can ellaborate on this (where to type this, do you have to enter a command before) One thing I do not know is how to make korean characters visible in the BW chatrooms and gamenames, it can help a lot for finding proper games (race, latency, level) -> Does anyone have info on that ?]
i can't give you a full how to but here is some info.
Server list / launcher / site
- you need a launcher to play because you need latency changer. Mini launcher is good but more and more people use wLauncher because of the better antihack i guess. - when you install wlauncher, only install the wlauncher part, unclick the other korean things because it will install korean programs. same applies for mini. sometimes your antihack will cry about these launchers but ignore it. - if you don't want fish to delete your server list, use the GUIfixes plugin from this thread: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=341246 (simply put the two gui files from here http://213.133.99.163/bw/iccpluginsloader/ to your wLauncher/Plugins folder). It works BUT you won't be able to connect to the official servers (Eu, West etc) when the guifixes plugin is ON. - if your server list gets deleted, you can fix it with reg files, like this: http://www.mediafire.com/?g39s4oc46sw936m just double click - fish site is http://www.fishbattle.net/ - you don't need to register here, because when you make an account when you join the server, it automatically registers to the site as well. use a password that has both letters and numbers in it. - fish site gives you points for online time. this is different from ladder points, you can use these points to reset your stats and other unnecessary things like icons. - basicly nothing is in english on the site and there is no matchlist or statistics so nothing useful there. you can check the top ladder users at http://www.fishbattle.net/rank_ladder
OK now you're on fish server. how to get ladder games? - people don't use public one on one games on fish for ladder. i don't know why is that and i find it stupid, but thats how it works there. you have to join the ladder channel to find an opponent. you can make public one on one but they will rarely join, i tested it. - before, the rule was you had to play 30 melee games to join the ladder channel. now the rule is you have to be online for 24 hours. this is to prevent unlimited multiply accounts. you can check the remaining time by writing /lc ID - until you wait, you can try melee games, but there are many hackers.
- below the ladder channels, there is a clan channel advertising channel (lol) and below that, those two are i think 1v1 for money game channels, but i don't know how those work. i also don't know what is special leage channel but it seems empty - Every registered clan etc. channel has "-" at the end of it and fish gives a ^^ bot to them. Running your bot on fish is prohibited, however if admins don't find out or don't care you can have it. you can register your channel on fish's site but i don't know how it works, i got mine done by a korean. - if you join a korean clan channel and a red text says this channel is vmoderated, they won't see whatever you write, unless you are given voice (VOP). - foreigner channels: op Teamliquid, Team sas- they both have a bot. Team sas- channel has a cross server bot to iccup's op sas. channel done by sas.Pez, pretty good : ] we have .list command that will tell you who is on the other side. You can also bump into some gosus on team sas- : ] - you can have a pretty long friend list on fish, maybe up to 100? however /f o doesn't work, only /f l - you can leave a message to an offline id on fish. type /mail help to see how it works. - /stats ID will show you: first melee stats, then ladder 1v1, then 2v2 stats. - /finger ID will tell you extra info about any id. - admins on fish have ": Police" or ":something" at the end of their ID. you can see online admins by typing /admins, but they're not always speaking enligsh. Quote from Messer: "Fish admins are separated into few sections, you can find every section in different channel. For help with ladder reports, you need 'Police' channel. Almost every of them can understand english but most of them are not willing to talk in english. It's minority but few of them can speak english perfectly. But if you chat not about ladder reports, you can be kicked/temporary banned from channel." - there are several icons on fish, for example VOP icon looks like a vuvuzela (lol) or androide icon means one is connected via phone or blizzard icon is channel owner but they mostly mean nothing and are just for fun. you can get icons from the site for points or if someone gives you one. in 2011 christmas, every user got a snowman icon. you can delete that by typing /delicon - fish server resets every day at 5 am korean time (9pm CET). the server is down for like 3-5 minutes usually. you can still finish watching a replay or playing in this time but sometimes it will give you a disc.
OK you afked for two nights, you can start Laddering!
probably most of you know this but still lets write it down: how does the ladder system work? - elo system, you start from 1000 points. 1 win vs similar point guy = +25 points, loose = -25 points. - compared to iccup, fish is very though. 1000 points = ~C/C+ 900 maybe C- 1100 ~ B- 1300 ~ B+ right now A- beacuse there is so few high ranked players on iccup now. 1400-1500now its a/a+ on iccup. when iccup was full (~in 2009) 1400-1500 would have been B+/A- now the fun thing about fish is that it could still divide player levels from here. there is a difference between 1600 (a+) and 1800 (olimpic) and 2000 (pro) ranked players. now fish is getting weaker and weaker every season as i see it. a few seasons ago there were always one or two 2000 ranked guys by the end of the season. now its its mid-late season and the high ranked guys are capped at 1600-1800, simply because of the same reason like on iccup: not enough high ranked players. - every 3 month, there is ladder reset. - any map can be played. still 99% of the time they use fighting spirit for ladder.
So you enter the ladder channel and - if its not korea nighttime - you will see 100 people spamming like mad. imo this is a super bad system and they should divide the channel into 2-3 parts but its not happening yet. so whats the easiest way to play? Search through the names and find those who are somewhat close to you and whisper them with your copy-pasted point AND game name, something like this: 1000 go? ziziyo#l2 / 1 and if they answer with go or something, make game. Also if someone is whispering you with a point just reply them your game name and make game. We do this because many koreans would make game with a korean sign in it and then you have to ask them to make the game with a non-korean name. If you can't host still try to suggest your wanted game name in the whisper.
Other things about laddering:
- we use #l2 because #l1 will probably lag. #l2 high lat is most common, but many korean will just leave if they sense lag or too high latency.
- Antihack on fish is wdetector. how to turn on wdetector: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=392587 correct me if i'm wrong, but as i see it, if you have win XP, you can't turn on wdetector because you would need to use the whole windows in korean and you probably don't want to do that. without wdetector, you are pretty much undefended. i don't know how good wdetector works because i can't use it because of the above reason. but if you sense someone hacked vs you you can still find it afterwards - it might give you a better feeling at least. so an easy way to check is to open the replay with bwchart and check the hotkey section - if the guy has 150+ apm and no hotkeys at all (hotkey selection should be checked), that probably means the most common multicommand unit control hack. but if you want to be sure, download BWHFagent (http://code.google.com/p/bwhf/downloads/detail?name=BWHFAgent%203.30%20windows.zip) and scan the replay - this will show the hack (multicommand, multiselect, autogather, autotrain). the problem with maphack is that its super hard to find. if you know any program that can show it, please tell me!
- Reporting: there are many discers on fish, and some hackers too so you want to report them. Unfortunately I don't know how to do it - all i know it has to be done on the site and as far as i know sadly you don't get your points back but they ban the abusers. We still need a guide on this! Update!

- to prevent discers, maybe its a good idea to pretend that you are korean. if they know that you are foreigner they are more likely to disc, because they know that you can't report them. In order to pretend yourself a korean, just don't write anything in english. If theyre asking you something, just don't answer or say "ok" or a korean word you know, "hyung" (brother/fella) for example. lol
- resetting your stats: it requires 500 points on the site which is not so much. It is easy to do, i will write a guide soon, once dsaqwe tells me how to -.-
- i don't know what is wJoiner good for and how to use it;;
My thoughts on fish server
I think iccup is much better and there are plenty of things that should be changed on fish. - fish ladder system favors the minority: the gosu players, over the majority: the noobs. gosus can get to their level much faster (in less games) than on iccup. but average or lower ranked players are stuck at 1000 points that will give them a feeling of no progress and frustration and lead them to stop playing. you can have 1000 points with 100-100 stat. 200 games, and you are where you started. i don't think thats good. - the ladder channel is too crowded. if they keep this system, they should divide it. usually, about 80% of the players are between 900 and 1100. high and low ranked players should get their seperate ladder channel. and people should start using public games. I don't think it would take too much effort from the site owners, maybe a proclamation on the site. But they like it this way. why? the fact that gosus can reach their rank fast and that its harder for them to find an opponent because of the crowded ladder channel will result in more multiply accounts and more noob bashing, which should also be avoided... - fish server is really not open towards foreigners. for example to activate the antihack you have to type "I am korean" in korean. How is that lol? that implies if you are not korean, you should go and fuck yourself and not use it? Also the site is really korean only. Iccup (a russian site) was able to do an english and a korean version because they realized more people is good for them. So i don't get this policy at fish site. And i also don't understand why, because it seemed to me that most users on fish are super interested about foreigners, everywhere i wrote something in english they asked about me in a friendly way. Even those that dont speak english at all, they start to throw some made up konglish at you. Even if they swear, they dont really mean it, dont take it seriously. - the site also has poor features compared to iccup.com (which is down too much though) - no motw system leads to super boring play only on fighting spirit.
Can someone who speaks korean write to fish owners to change these things for the foreigner community?

you can use the latency changer and it notifies that you are using the program, but your anti hack features are removed without 나는 한국인 (sksms gksrnrdls = I am korean) has to be written in KOR too.
Also, I think relating rank from iccup to fish is impossible because some days I will jump to 1300 with 1-5 losses and other days I will be stuck around 1150 after 40-50games. This is probably due to the fact that the +/- effect of a loss streak can throw good players into this range after only a few losses, also that the pros don't have enough competition so they make many IDs to re-level. In general, I find that most players above 1100 are at least competent enough to give a decent game opposed to iccup where you can get to A- with 5-20 losses and you have to be lucky to find someone decent at any random time (if you are online during early/midday european times you might find decent games)
edit: btw people use OP Teamliquid @ fish but not many foreigners frequent.
Regarding ranking you can't really compare iccup with fish, the game-play is different you can see a B+ struggling to 1050 and have a B- going 1100, simply because you cannot dodge your weakness, meaning that if you suck at one mu or are a race picker it's what will hold you back from reaching what you assume your true rank. As Draw stated a 1150 that goes 0/4 because of unfortunate games (it's very easy to be unfortunate on fish) will be 1050, so even at this lvl you can have strong opponent. Not mentioning all those 1400 smurf starting new accounts, and they are tons of them. You will not win like iccup, your average winrate will be 50% and that's it, win/lose/win/lose/win/lose if it's not the case well weather you are a progamer, weather you are not playing enough games. And that's what is elo rank, a fair point system that reflect your true lvl. You'll be surprised to see how thin is the gap between a 980 and a B-
I think your skill doesn't matter for fish, what matter is your motivation, because you will always feel like you're starting from scratch. You will progress but not your rank. If you really want to see a difference well play iccup after 3 months of fish, you'll feel something different and how easily you can take out opponent that would give you a hard time before.

Frankly I almost don't play iccup at all, even for clan war it bothers me to connect on it.
iFU.pauline very good post, i agree with pretty much everything you said, its how i feel when i play fish server.
I have also used wlauncher but not typed the korean thing. Previously, koreans banned me before and when i ask why they say its because i dont have wlauncher (or i assume so, because the only thing i can read is the wlauncher part), so now i use wlauncher and dont get banned or have people randomly leave my games nearly as often.

Yes, you can. Every rating can be abused in one way or the other. pauline is just mixing high activity with some in-built protection up I think.
You can abuse the system but it's more difficult and not really worth it, you could spend more time finding a game than actually playing. If you are really into built in exploit well better be on iccup, it will be easier and faster.
I'd also like to say the more I have tried to use Fish if you even have a hint of lag people will ban you or will just insta-leave. Neither server is great option IMO.
Just a couple things on Fish server: While I am not sure how long Zimp has spent playing on Fish I can say that my experience has been significantly different. To start with, the matter of not being able to find non-ladder games is something I've never seen nor heard of. It is possible that he was making games with English names, but if you can just get 투혼 from a website and copy and paste that into the the game name (assuming you can't use a Korean keyboard) just make the game name 1:1 투혼 #l2 and maybe add in something like 고고 or 초보만 (pretty much noobs only) and you'll have plenty of people joining your games. Also if you can't read Korean in the game client just look at the games that have 1:1 and #w, #l1, or #l2 in the game name and just look at the map names. It's a bit tedious, but its significantly easier to find games that way as compared to waiting around on ICCup waiting for someone with decent latency to host a game at your skill level.
Also in regards to wLauncher, it is pretty intuitive to use once you've figured out a few things, pretty much you just have to mess around with it. But one of the biggest things for me is that it comes with wJoiner which is an absolutely beautiful system for anyone that plays on multiple computers, such as at a PC방 or just needs maps. wJoiner is pretty straightforward to use, when you log into a bnet server, doesn't matter which one, click the wJoiner button and you will then see a massive list of maps from there all you have to do is click once on the name and you will see a little download bar on the bottom and a second or two later you will get see a map preview on the right side of your screen. From there if you wish to host a game you can actually just double click on a map or press enter and it will host that map for you. However if you just clicked once it not only gives you the map preview but downloads the map for you. This will be confusing to begin with, but if you are familiar with map names in Korean it is very convenient, and if you want to read the map names in English simply hit the check box in the middle directly above the map list, it will have the words 한글 맵 이름. From there just select any of the maps you are familiar with and/or want to be able to play on and spend about a minute downloading all of your favorite, including old school, Proleague, MSL, and just other random maps. Also, if I have time sometime soon I'll try and post a quick guide for getting onto Fish Server and using wLauncher.
Do not use MINI, most players disc if you do not have wlauncher - more now than eariler. Fish is cool, but you should be C or above as previously stated. I gotta remove MINI and install wlauncher later tonight - you will see a lot of players search "1050w" and they will leave right away if you do not have the right launcher.

I would love to play on iccup with English speaking people and not get stomped by C Koreans... But it's just that you don't even have to wait 30seconds to play on fish while iccup is hit or miss. Wish we had a bigger community in the abyss

How is dodging weaknesses any different on fish though? If I am weak at ZvT on ICCup, and wanted pretty rank I would just ban terrans. Is there are reason you can't just ban terrans that join your game on fish in the same situation?

I spent some time and efforts to educate myself on how to report discers @ fish but last time I reported a discer I attached a /g screen, a replay and a screen that he drops but without the /g this time and they couldn't process the report... Why is that? It felt really frustrating and I personally think/thought it was easy to notice what happened through my report and that the proofs were valid enough...

About "actived" launcher... u must type sksms gksrnrdls on kor before game start, sometimes needs to type few times before its actived... Extra options u have: before game starts u can see what launcher ur opponent using (mini, Aqua, Wlauncher and version), u have clock, when someone make replay and u join, after DL rep u see replay name, before game starts if u already played ur current opponent before, u see when u played him and game name ...there are more options i think ..
About reporting ... Im not 100% sure wat you need, but you need replay, few screen shots (/time, disc screen, ..) .. if something is missing admins deny ur report..
About reset ladder stats.. now you need 750pts(used to be 1000 i think) on fish site. When someone show you how to do it, its really easy, few clicks.. If someone wants to reset feel free to msg me ...

One thing, which isn't mentioned in this guide, is that you must post report max. 72 hours after game (not later), else it will get denied without checking. 1st screenshot must be done during drop countdown and display usage of /g command. How to make it? Press F5 (to turn drop screen off), type /g, F5 again and then printscreen (works for Mini Launcher). Be careful when making 2nd screenshot. You still must type /g so do it before 'End mission/Continue playing' appears.
Other things: if you set korean language settings in Windows, you'll country will be KOR when checking /finger. Even your opponents know that you're not korean and use drophack against you, it doesn't make you unable to post report. I report all dishackers and almost every my report has been solved. Fish staff notice inflow of foreigners and consider translating part/parts of website to english and becoming international server.
I spent some time and efforts to educate myself on how to report discers @ fish but last time I reported a discer I attached a /g screen, a replay and a screen that he drops but without the /g this time and they couldn't process the report... Why is that? It felt really frustrating and I personally think/thought it was easy to notice what happened through my report and that the proofs were valid enough...
Rules changed last season. Screenshot have to be made in last 15 seconds of countdown. In this case, probably one screenshot is enough.

You need to be in game, so host a game vs PC then close the slot then stay in-game for 24 hours, or however long you can multiple times. I THINK it works, but since I am suspicious of the gametime ending short on the replay, I just beat the computer to 1 building and leave that on for hours instead. Was too worried about potentially wasting my time with a null game xP Someone else could elaborate on this. I also forgot how to check how many hours you have left (there's a command I think), so no way of testing haha.
However, I do think playing melee games is a better way to get used to the skill and language nuances of the server, practice, and then you'll be more ready for ladder games.

You need 30 games iirc, unless they changed it recently.
You host on one vs one for ladder. It's not 30 games, it's being logged into your ID for 24 hours. You can check how long you have until you can ladder by typing /lc
I can't use korean characters in a game name because if so I get the msg "a game by that name already exist" What might be an issue? I tried both wjoiner and manual host. I also added some random letters. Doesn't work. When I dont use korean characters for example "1:1 Python" game can be hosted.
Do I have "bad" korean fonts installed or sth? I dont think so.

I can't join any other channels, for example the D ~ F channel. When I click it my OK button just goes gray and it sits there. I can exit and play games, but I can't join channels. Any help? :D

Somewhere in the tl sea of threads there is one that has a prog that intergrates iccup and fish with the wlauncher, all i did was run this prog and i could use wlauncher like normal but have the option to join any server including iccup and fish, can someone help me find it?

U must be online about 24h to be able to join ladder channel.
I have other problem.. I cant understand why i have lag with koreans its hard enought that they dont want to play and i also wouldnt... Thing is i have 13mb network so its pretty impossible to be too slow.. My ping is always about 383+ when on iccup i have 93 so why such difference?

From what I understand we (i.e. Poland) have horrid latency to SEA, Taiwan and Korean regions, regardless of the game. I tried to play some LoL on Taiwan and it was a constant 300-400 ms nightmare. Did have some games on Fish when the latency was tolerable, but those were few and far between. I don't think it can be helped

Asia and Europe are typically routed through the U.S., so the latency is likely more than double what you experience playing against U.S. players.

Just bumping the thread to update that in order to reset your stats you need to have 750 points now. Also when you go on google Chrome the page gets translated to english enough that you can make out whats going on.

I get this with wlauncher sometimes but if i just exit out wlauncher and restart again it seems to work.
