I am watching the Tasteless vid over at GGL about the Nal Ra vs Yellow in the WWI finals in korea. Tasteless is definately the best announcer I have seen. Extremely good job and very funny. Loved the dart micro comment. Makes me want to watch the other videos. However, I noticed some quirks...
He didn't pronounce maelstrom right - I think he pronounced it "melee-strom" instead of "male-strom." This, I think, is just incorrect, as I couldn't find another pronounciation on various dictionary sites.
However "scourge" is up to debate more. I and everyone I know pronounce it "skerge" (rhymes with dirge) while he pronounced it "skorge." (Rhymes with forge.) There is an an alternative pronounciation like this and it is listed as the third (of fourth) on merriam webster page. It isn't listed on dictionary.com
So in what way do you pronounce "Scourge?" I got my pronounciation from the old saying "scourge of the seven seas" because, as we all know, pirates rock. I've never heard it the way he pronounced it before.
Skerge, I used to pronounce zealots, zee-lots
i always say zeal lot instead of zelot, and i also say val ker y
Ya I heard in that video how he said melee-storm DROVE ME FUCKING CRAZY among other things he said wrong. I believe scourge is pronounced skerge. In warcraft 3 in the solo play missions that is how the pronounce it. On a side not I prononced zealot wrong for a long time until I found out it was a real word and had a correct way of saying it.
check this link http://www.webster.com/dictionary/scourge and click on the little red speaker.
i have always said "skerge" but im thinking "skorge" is the correct way;( edit: nvm i guess i was right:D I also say zee-lot instead of zel-it even though i know its wrong;p
Yeah I think skerge is right too; that's why it's the first pronounciation. To be honest, melee-strom drove me crazy too, but the game announcing was so great compared to that wacky steve (or whoever did the WCG cast) that I overlooked it.
Good noticing the warcraft 3 campaign alphablend. I forgot about that.

I say scourge more like skörge
maybe its cuz of the accent? like for example american accent is different than england accent so ur not as used to it so u heard it wrong? hopefully this wont offend u, just suggesting...
i say it like skorj, and as was already mentioned it is a proper pronunciation.
saying it like "skerge" just sounds fucked up imo even if it is proper
Skerge. I usually say ma-el-strom and zeel-ot like Koreans do :/
Maybe we should all just pronounce it "scour-erge" then. Phonetically, as it's spelled, heh. IMO there is no wrong pronounciation, but some things ignore the hell out of me. "Skorge" is one of them. And doesnt ö = 'er' pretty much?

And he calls vultures, bikes. And something else turrets, but it wasn't an actual Turret.

Vultures are bikes..... i see nothing wrong with that. Melee storm is uh... very smackable offence

But, they are CALLED "Vultures."
There heaps of words in SC that everyone takes for granted the pronounciations because you read the words in your own pronounciation.
I pronounce scourge as skerge as most people do, scorge is just wierd I can't be bothered changing my pronounciation of zealot as zeeeeeeeeee lot.
lol does it matter that much? i mean, lots of people would interpret it in different ways (because its just text) laugh it off =p
i say skorge and malestorm.... :o

Yeah, I think I use that too (Maybe more like Scooridge). I just pronouce it as i read it.
I just use the german name so I don't have problems with that. ~~
Korean commentators fucking crack me up.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH skurjee skurjee."
The correct pronunciations are "skerj" "zellot" and "malestrom". There is no argument, they are all words in the English language.
Dragooning is even a word. So is templar, and reaving or reaver, arbiter, nexus, pylon, etc...

me too... it's "Terror" for scourge and "Bersi" (actually it is called "Berserker", but it would just be too long...) for the zealot...

Because of the way the Korean language and alphabet is, they say some of the things pretty funnily (if that's a word).
Terran - Tae-lan SCV - essu-shee-bee Marine - mah-reen Firebat - PIRE-bat Medic - medic Vulture - beol-cheo Tank - tank Goliath - gohl-lee-ah-thi Wraith - lae-thi Dropship - doh-rahp-poo-sheep-poo Battlecruiser - bah-toh-roo-keo-ROOJAH Science Vessel - Bae-seo-roo Valkyrie - Bahl-keo-rhee

Protoss - Poo-roh-tah-sih Probe - Poo-roh-boo Zealot - Jee-roh-tih Dragoon - Dih-rah-goon High Templar - Ha-ee Tem-pih-rah (watch Hallucination reloaded by Kang Meen on GooDFriend and you'll get a good laugh when the anouncers are screaming HAHEE TEMPihRAH!!! THIS IS PROTOSS! THIS IS KANG MEEN!!!) Dark Templar - Dah-kih Tempihrah Archon - Ah-kahn Dark Archon - Dahkih ahkahn Shuttle - Sheo-teol Observer - Eob-JIH-bah Reaver - Rhee-bah Scout - Soo-kahootih Carrier - Kae-rhee-ah Arbiter - AHBEETAH!!! NO NO NO! Archon = ball, dark archon = other ball, lol, high templar = storm(er), shuttle = dropship, observer = detector. Others: drone/scv/probe = worker/peasant, zerglings = dogs, mutalisks = birds, scourge/infested terran = kamikaze, hydralisks = hydra, lurkers = spiders, ultralisks = elephants/mamooths, defilers = scorpions, vultures = cars, science vessels = spheres.
Scourge sound better as skorj, zealot as zee-lot and maelstrom as... maelstrom.
Where do you get your vods, I want some
Oh, and if some of you don't know, Ultralisks are always called fattys. Thats the only way to describe um
skorge
male-storm
is how i say them
dont worry, Tasteless pronounces everything wrong. In 1 wcg usa video he called SloG4 "Sloga"
Know some people pronounce things bothers me.
These are just some of the things I heard at WCG last year. I'm not counting any other pronounciations heard at other LANs I've been to:
Nay-dah for NaDa as-ah-lay-ah for azalea gay-ah for gaia zee-lot for zealot arch-ens for archons
I know there were more I can't remember. I don't really say anything to the people who do this, but it just bothers me. T_T As for scourge, it can go either way. Don't worry about it.
JKilla you made me want to watch that Arbiter Reloaded video again...
and i went crazy again!!!!!!!
I say skorj, and zeel-ot. Certainly not meele-storm though. haha
I say Nada just how you would in spanish. Zealot zee-lot maelstrom male-strom gaia gee-a << I think that is wrong though scourge skorge

Gaia is pronounced "guy-uh" Scourge is pronounced "skerj" Maelstrom is pronounced "male-strom" Zealot is pronounced "zeh-lot"
-_-
I CANNOT STAND IT when people call zealots.... ze-lots and protoss proo-toss (long 'o' sound in both parts of word... like pro-toes)

Both Scourge and Maelstrom (although not meleestrom) have proper alternative pronunciations according to that dictionary.
Zealot doesn't, though.
