I am watching the Tasteless vid over at GGL about the Nal Ra vs Yellow in the WWI finals in korea. Tasteless is definately the best announcer I have seen. Extremely good job and very funny. Loved the dart micro comment. Makes me want to watch the other videos. However, I noticed some quirks...
He didn't pronounce maelstrom right - I think he pronounced it "melee-strom" instead of "male-strom." This, I think, is just incorrect, as I couldn't find another pronounciation on various dictionary sites.
However "scourge" is up to debate more. I and everyone I know pronounce it "skerge" (rhymes with dirge) while he pronounced it "skorge." (Rhymes with forge.) There is an an alternative pronounciation like this and it is listed as the third (of fourth) on merriam webster page. It isn't listed on dictionary.com
So in what way do you pronounce "Scourge?" I got my pronounciation from the old saying "scourge of the seven seas" because, as we all know, pirates rock. I've never heard it the way he pronounced it before.

Skerge, I used to pronounce zealots, zee-lots
|
i always say zeal lot instead of zelot, and i also say val ker y

Ya I heard in that video how he said melee-storm DROVE ME FUCKING CRAZY among other things he said wrong. I believe scourge is pronounced skerge. In warcraft 3 in the solo play missions that is how the pronounce it. On a side not I prononced zealot wrong for a long time until I found out it was a real word and had a correct way of saying it.
check this link http://www.webster.com/dictionary/scourge and click on the little red speaker.

i have always said "skerge" but im thinking "skorge" is the correct way;( edit: nvm i guess i was right:D I also say zee-lot instead of zel-it even though i know its wrong;p

Yeah I think skerge is right too; that's why it's the first pronounciation. To be honest, melee-strom drove me crazy too, but the game announcing was so great compared to that wacky steve (or whoever did the WCG cast) that I overlooked it.
Good noticing the warcraft 3 campaign alphablend. I forgot about that.

I say scourge more like skörge
|
maybe its cuz of the accent? like for example american accent is different than england accent so ur not as used to it so u heard it wrong? hopefully this wont offend u, just suggesting...
|
i say it like skorj, and as was already mentioned it is a proper pronunciation.
saying it like "skerge" just sounds fucked up imo even if it is proper
|
Skerge. I usually say ma-el-strom and zeel-ot like Koreans do :/
|
Maybe we should all just pronounce it "scour-erge" then. Phonetically, as it's spelled, heh. IMO there is no wrong pronounciation, but some things ignore the hell out of me. "Skorge" is one of them. And doesnt ö = 'er' pretty much?

And he calls vultures, bikes. And something else turrets, but it wasn't an actual Turret.

But, they are CALLED "Vultures."

There heaps of words in SC that everyone takes for granted the pronounciations because you read the words in your own pronounciation.
I pronounce scourge as skerge as most people do, scorge is just wierd I can't be bothered changing my pronounciation of zealot as zeeeeeeeeee lot.
