I can not personally endorse generating Chinese ID # here, but it is possible, if you can not find a friend for one you might have to do this. All the consequences and responsibilities lie with you the user if you choose to do this. You can create multiple accounts under the same ID as far as I can tell, so feel free to share as it's not illegal or against any rules or eula's.

Validate.
I can't go further as I don't have a Chinese ID card at the moment, but normally you need to download the client. Login, then browse to locate a BW exe (like with iccup launcher) but it has to be version 1.13. Then, instead of selecting a Bnet portal, games will be available under Local Area Network (UDP)
To get the launcher: go to this http://game.vsa.com.cn/vsmain/jsp/down/down.http or try http://game.vsa.com.cn/vsmain/jsp/down/down.html the first dl (top) is the full installed launcher, second one you don't need to install The red links require a download engine called "thunder" (similar to bit-torrent engines), the black links require something else. Just use one of the other links.

7/12 Talking with Eywa- and 8bb of 8da / STL to organize Chinese team / players for Gambit's cup. 和Eywa-,8da/STL的8bb谈论组织中国队伍参加Gambit's cup联赛.
7/19 Alright I'm back with some bad news and some good news. The bad news is that due to a combination of lack of team leads who will be able to persistently see the gambit cup through, worrying about lag, and the time slot, the Chinese teams can't participate in this Gambit's Cup. (that is unless something happens in the next 24 hours and we do sort everything out miraculously.
The good news is that the reaction we got from the players and organizers apart from technical difficulties was positive, every still active player that we asked expressed interest in playing in a foreign tournament, and individually forking out the entry fees wasn't a problem either, so do expect them at foreign tournaments in the future.
On behalf of Chinese teams and players I thank you for your attention and interest and apologize for the inability to participate this time, do look forward to co-operating and interacting with us in the future though!
China, it is my pleasure to cast your tourneys in English. Also Caihead, whenever the next round of the COSL starts, please send me reps/VODs whenever possible so I can cast

Is it possible for a mod to grant me the ability to change the liquipedia articles related to these leagues? There will be alot of changes as I recieve correct information from the organizers / teams, less work on the mods.
Great initiative and thread! The fact that the Chinese had teams, a teamleague, and individual league were all surprising news to me. It is awesome to see that Brood War is attempting to go strong.
Thank you so much Caihead, Xiphos, and others who have helped made this content accessible to us foreigners with ease.

Yep. Right now the stream is paused because Scan is doing his laundry.
A guy commented in Chinese in the chat "中国人好无聊啊,1000多人等一个韩国人洗衣服" "Chinese people have nothing to do, 1000+ people waiting for a Korean to wash his clothes"
I'm not that good with Chinese, but it seems that there's a lot of people using the word 棒子 when referring to Scan, at least that's how I understand it.
It translate to "stick" in google, is there something I'm missing? It's his nickname or something?

If china offers regularly english commentary, would TL be just happy to hear that? or would TL feel it is very important for china to offers english commentary? I'm curious about that

there are stories about this word.
well actually this is true a slur for the Koreans, and it's widely used on the chinese net for years, the reason for this is(as far as I know) : most of the chinese think the koreans announced something belonging to china as theirs, such as Confucius,Dragon Boat Festival and sort of things.
And now this word 棒子 is also commonly used when the chinese players refering to Koreans players. BUT MORE FOR SHORT,and the reason why we(I'm a chinese player) use this also reflects the internet culture of china, we respect people on line, but we don't think it's that much unrespectable to use such kind of word. AND WE LOVE THE WAY THE KOREANS PLAY!

TL would be very happy with anything BW related.
Heck we hardly had any live English commentary with the Korean scene. Would be nice to have English commentary on live Chinese stream!
man, how the chinese-korean tensions play out is going to be interesting to watch...it's even more interesting being somewhat competent in both languages.
why we play on maps on Luna or Fighting spirit that much? the answer is: our player numbers is based on the whole population of 1.3 billion people. On the VS server, everybody do so, that's why most of us play only these maps, we've get used to these maps.
As for the Hack problem, we tried to be easy with this. Once LX played on PLU live in China, there's a zerg player getting lost, but before he GG, he says: bu yao yi wei ni ying le. which in chinese means Don't think you've won. And he turn all his drones into battlecruisers , LX smiled with his jaw on the earth.
later, when we talk about some Gosu , we'd mention this kind of story. just for fun.
JUST now there's a guy hacked with SCAN, there's a post on 8da.com talking about this, the player feel it's just a joke, while 110 blessed on this guy. ( 110 is a God in 8da.com, who have predicted ENDLESS matches conversely---i.e. if he says somebody'll win, they will lose----the only one match he fails predicting is one that IPXzerg loses, while years later IXPzerg is put into jail)
And also 熊大威武,女帝和super,吃肉,these words have its own stories in China, as TL users getting to know chinese SC more, you'll find it's much more interesting than you've ever thought. Have fun!

By the way, quick question about sina. Is there any way to get to like...an overview page where all the live streams are listed, from(viewers) highest to lowest? Since I don't understand the names, the A-Z thing doesn't help and I personally don't care about the "hot games".
I'm going to try to meet up with plu.cn organizers / players irl in Shenzhen this saturday, going to shoot promo video / play some lan and stream things and other shenanigans
We need to get started on ISL4 soon. Advertise it to China. Then use those viewership numbers to attract sponsors and at the same time get money from Twitch's Ads. Also inviting some of the Chinese players is also vital for the growth of relationship. Since C-OSL is considered as a continuous event, we might even see foreigners like Sziky taking the champion's throne and further explodes the competitive field.
In the future, we are potentially looking toward 2 Huge tournaments event (the C-OSL, ISLs) and perhaps some S.Korean amateur leagues going on. Saturated these events, and then definitely the level of play can climb back again closer to the past OSL/MSL's standard.
Say that we'll have 70 teams in total for Brood War. The teams do not have to play in the same server. We can have threads in all parties' perspective forum boards and upload replays. Chinese are seen to be able to play on Fish and ICCup. Koreans can play on VS Server. Rest of the world can play on Fish and ICCup (VS Server's Instruction will be translated). With 70 teams in mind, that's almost non stop BW action. We can have regular seasons going on for hours! High possibility of getting that 24/7 Brood War materials going on purposed by Eywa. Then people like Sayle, Elegant, TheShimmy Hacklebeast will be very busy as their viewership skyrockets.
In the end, I'm personally hoping that we (the global scene) will reach to a point where there will be a yearly Brood War ProLeague format with all those teams participating as one. I am going to say, although I'm really shooting dart into the shadow, that MAYBE just MAYBE we can prove to OGN that they made the biggest mistakes ever.

advertising may be a bit tricky for the chinese though, does twitch have targeted ads for them? and the chinese audience may have a significantly smaller propensity to spend on ad goods given the lower disposable income

Yea the teams essentially function as clans do in Korea, they keep players / practice partners on the roster too, roughly around the top 20 get to play in the team league's official matches depending on the situation.

Is it really worth it ? You need a Chinese ID card number to register to VS. I know you can always borrow one, but if you can borrow one, then you are very likely to have a Chinese friend that can register an account for you and tell you how to get on the VS server.
A couple of Chinese players actually visited my stream yesterday and offered to help me with getting on the server :D

I see the website on the front page but it's very obviously all in Chinese.
You land on a form Field 1 : username. 3 to 13 characters Click on the button on the right to check availability. Field 2 : password 6 to 28 characters. Field 3 : password confirmation Field 4 : real name Field 5 : Chinese ID card number Field 6 : purpose of the account. Select 星际对战1v1 (1v1 starcraft ladder) Field 7 : captcha
Did he win 3:0, or only posted the reps where he won ? lol
Thanks !
And god, Scan is lvl 21 :o
there was some good toss who beat him quite easily, but I am not sure if there was replay of that or foul play many people complain on the stream if the opponent is doing something fishy; i.e stream cheat, etc

no it's totally understandable, and it happens anywhere and everywhere
you want a large audience, and when you do get a large number of people, you get more idiots mixed in as well, and they tend to synergize upon each other

also starcraft crashes every time I try to go to LAN game after launching through the VS program
Is your Starcraft version 1.13 ?
I have the latest one, I need to downgrade to play on VS servers?
Yeah that's basically it. IDK what the differences are between 1.16 and 1.13, but I don't think anything major...
There is no difference in terms of balance. Only difference from 1.13f is that glitches that made some hacks possibles were fixed, and B.net was improved. I think the most annoying thing is the hatchery rally crash glitch...
12k+ people tune into the chinese restream of SPL regularly, never paid attention to that since the streams didn't have a easy to see viewer # before. And that's with the NEW format that most people dislike.

to play on what? The C-OSL Ro16 onwards? I can talk to the organizers about it, the key issue is still lag, refereeing, and also production problems if people are just playing via online platforms.
Yes FengZi defeated Eagle in that sense the serie was a Best of 3. Games I saw was a Zergling surround on Photon Cannons that made Eagle insta-gg. The following game was FengZi doing more or less same build but Eagle defended it but his multitasking were supbar a la Dohsairs and FengZi basically backed off, massed hydralisk off from 4 bases and then bursted P's natural.
Twitch.tv VODs never work for me in China I guess it's because VODs, even on twitch.tv streams, are hosted by justin.tv and the latter never works well in China. When I tried to load a VOD, I get an error :
This is Luo Xian btw, he's going by ID: [FRDS]Legend)L.x right now and is on team FRDS
Also you can scroll down to the bottom of player profiles on liansai.net and see vods of notable games. In this case there are games against July, Goojila(Kal), tossgirl, trap, and numerous chinese pros to name a few. You can also look up the players on the top right hand search bar.

Well look on liquipedia there's basically an entire database to be updated. Also thanks for your attention.
7/12 People who understand the different servers (VS, HF, Fish, Brain, iccup, etc) please pm me, so I can transcribe instructions of how to register / play to appropriate threads and chinese forums. Thanks
Digging around the data bases, there is literally years of chinese BW / replay footage to bad had, if someone could help me compile them it would be great. For example: http://www.plu.cn/e/search/result/?searchid=143838 Jaystar makes instructional videos on how to protoss, he has 24 of them so far already.

Hehe good call.
Also, Chinese teams in Gambit???? I don't care what anyone else says, I think that's a superb idea.

Because Zerg and Terran requires massive amount of practice and Chinese players don't have enough time on their hand (family, careers and etc.), Protoss became the most played race.
Calling people who are fluent in Chinese / English / LRing to do further coverage on Chinese BW, I can give you the contact infos of casters / organizers, please PM.

this pleeeease !
the Chinese SCene is SOOOO alive ! we are missing an amazingly great deal of supersolid BW..
we really need someone to cover that scene for us..
I can certainly help, but I don't know how much free time I have given that I work 11-12 hours a day lol
Chinese tournaments are pretty big, total prize pools range from US$1000 to close to $10000.
Top player is definitely, without question Fengzi (Z), who was a pro during BW's haydays. Runner up is probably Zhanhun (P), who's a second generation player (early 20s). Jaystar (P) is probably really high up there as well, who is also an ex-pro. Number four is probably Leilei (T), who is also an ex-pro. The difference between Fengzi and the rest is pretty big. Leilei is also quite a bit worse than Jaystar and Zhanhun.
Most recent tournaments invite Koreans to participate, including Scan and Zelot. Beast was never invited to participate in tournaments, but often for showmatches. Scan is just a slightly above Fengzi (partly because Fengzi has bad ZvT), so he's having a great deal of success winning prize money.
Most recently, three tournaments have concluded, but the next ones are being planned and will happen shortly.

Nice info. We need more coverage of this scene.
im so hoping we are gonna get some coverage from these upcoming tournaments !!!
A rough summary of everything that's happening right now: Individual leagues: C-OSL is in the third run, with a new 2v2 segment. FBL is in the second run. SCNL (new league launched by scntv) is running C-OSL-BIRD amateur league in conjunction with C-OSL is in first run
Team leagues: The STL is in the 26th iteration Forum battles between different community hubs occurs frequently.
Offline and online events in major cities are organized on roughly a bi-monthly basis, no real guarantee or pattern to when these happen though, will have to update as they come. A list of the events that have happened can be found here: http://www.liansai.net/matchlist.aspx?class_id=2
Teams: The majority of teams are still active as clans, information on players and teams can be found here: http://www.liansai.net/ There are still 24 teams actively participating in STL, not counting the forum / community teams which there are around 5 to 6.
Major communities: Yaoyuan PlaySC 8da plu s.163 wfbrood liansai scntv (new, created by some of the oldest casters and community figures)
Player base is dominated by old legends (ex-pros) from the early 2000s early, racial distribution is usually protoss with the highest representation followed by a even split of terran and zerg. Chinese BW has the same problem with attracting new blood right now but there are a couple of younger players that are promising.
I'm busy with personal life to be making all these updates on a regular basis myself :< sorry guys. But I have all the contact infos if anyone wants to take over.
Can't believe there's so much BW going on, and no way to catch it all. I saw ZeLoT playing in the FBL, are a lot of the players we see in SOSPA tours participating in the chinese events as well?

Not that many right now, if you want to see the player list the Chinese threads are here. Usually there are some show matches like Fengzi vs Movie that just happened recently but they aren't actively participating in the Chinese league. Partially because the Korea skill level is still higher than the Chinese skill level.

The Chinese "teams" right now are just clans with out financial sponsorship other than donations and from the players' own pockets, so other than the latency and time there isn't any reason not to play in the Chinese tournaments for some money.
Is there any way of finding the schedule for chinese streams? Anything like a TL calendar or similar? Or anyone who would take the few minutes to share the links and times? I'd be happy to restream every now and then as before, but my chinese skills are non-existent.
Chinese events are horribly organized, mostly due to the various leagues, and the lack of a website (like TL) that organizes this info.
Most of the info is just scattered in the forums (read the OP), and COSL gets delayed pretty often for various reasons. SCNTV is by far the most professional group (http://scntv.com there's a little calendar thing on the right side), and I think it's probably where the future of Chinese BW lies.

scntv is made by veteran caster / community leaders, they are trying to bridge the community separation by just ignoring it all together (instead of trying to get people to cooperate between the websites)
one thing china is lacking is a good server like fish, i have talked to some chinese guys and the only way for chinese people to make games is basically using some client like the super super old school gamespy client where you meet people online and then host a game through some hamachi type client.

Latency is the biggest problem, not sure how they would sort that out.
Latency is pretty low if you play at night or in the morning which should be perfect is events are held at Euro time. Problem is that most Chinese gosus are 27+ years old with a job and sometimes kids so they may not want to play at night :/
So there has been this sponsor in China who's been dumping tens of thousands of US dollars into the BW scene, and he recently posted that he will host an offline tournament in Shanghai, and he plans to contribute over 1 MILLION RMB, which is something like US$150,000...
There is a possibility that Korean players will be invited to participate.
Why the first thing I'm thinking = betting, and the second one = match fixing But if it's true it could still generate a lot of awesome level BW so yay?!

Go CHINA!
WHAT ?!?!?!
is this real life ?
oh man.. Im not hyping myself so much as for now because I know some tournaments that were to be huge and they didnt happen because of something.. but if they can pull this off.. its gonna blow my fucking mind..
hope this is gonna work out !!! And inviting korean players would be an awesome idea because the chinese can easily compete with them
Clarification: Right now the Leagues C-OSL and FBL are being ran with sponsor money from various companies which aren't really esports related at all, like http://www.2scsc.cn/ which is a second car sales website, and 南京尚信商贸有限公司 which is a sales company based in Nanjing that retails alcohol.
As for the claims of a 1 million RMB sponsorship, nothing is certain of that right now.

Not being able to edit an old OP kinda sucks lol.
gotta wait and see how this will play out
hope that the tournament is going to happen, even with smaller prizepool
