Intro: Brood War at the Korean pro level is over however I will continue to watch the foreign scenes and become more invested in them. However, knowing this was coming I invested in SC2. Going to MLG Orlando was the first time I really understood how powerful the SC2 scene was. To me SC:BW was always more then just the game. It involves the storylines, players, fans, and love for the same thing. Attending MLG invigorated that. Maybe it was cause I hugged BoxeR or that I got to hang out with TLO and Jinro, but it was so much fun. And the games, oh the games were great. That was the series where Idra made a great run and Boxer did his 3 game bunker rush strategies.
Watching SC2: After that moment I wanted to take more effort into getting to know SC2 better. I bought myself a year premium gomTV ticket for the GSL. I still feel many of the weak points that are missed from the BW days, spider miners and scarabs, but I do love watching the top Korean players play the game. I have even been able to get my coworkers and friends involved by sharing my ticket. Does anyone else know how good it feels to find people in person that can actually talk and cheer along with you about a video game. I'm happy there are new graphics because that was the bump needed to bring in new people.
Acceptance: I accepted that one day BW players would be making the switch to SC2. That had been my dream since the announcement of SC2. It was in my head, the perfect way to keep Bisu relevant and always playing the game. Now everyone is concerned that SC2 hasn't met the expectations of BW yet, but while the game isn't perfect at least the scene is going nuts. There are so many foreign fans to communicate with now. The foundation for success is there and that makes me happy.
My Emotions: Sure I cried with Kiett when Bisu won his last game, and I get teary eyed when I read all these BW threads. But when I think that there is a chance all these players have a longer future for me to watch them I am so optimistic. Such talent deserves to be marveled at. There is so much that will change about SC2 before the game is left alone. Amazing changes will happen and there is so much potential for everyone to be pleased. I just want there to be an easiness between our brotherhood because regardless of 1 or 2, we are all here to watch Starcraft and support the people who play it.
My post-bw plans: My post bw plans are to continue on the legacy created over a decade ago. I hope to bring what was great in the BW community over to the SC2 community so the new comers can learn from us what it took to build what we have worked so hard for. It is to bring the strategies and the stories of the Old Generation into the new world. It is to unite at Starcraft parties, barcrafts, tournaments, and skype groups to watch the future of Starcraft succeed and know that I was part of Episode 1 and I will be part of Episode 2 also.

~25% huh, pretty much how I imagined it.
|
Why would you want to ever switch? And why do you think switch is inevitable? If you like and want to play BW you will play it.
|
Getting new internet around the time of the switch any place to get the rust off? I heard iccup is pretty dead and fish is good for once you get to C+ish ive heard

@Bisu Dagger
I respect your decision, but for me as a player who have been a long time fan of broodwar . I can never switch to sc2 and I will hold my ground if pro bw is gone I will start a new e-sport passion be it watching pro counter strike go or just leave the scene for ever . Not thinking about leading the new fans or such as I think back than. Also as a old man already I find it hard to connect with sc2 any more looking at the game full with young guns and fans this basically is telling me that I am already too old for the game and I should look forward in to improving my future than actually spending time playing games.
Also happy that the transition to sc2 was much easier for you than it is for me . Graphics in sc2 was really unforgiving for me and me having precognitive bias over broodwar has made the transition to sc2 really hard and just like what I have said . I will be going back to where my passion my games have started that is being a counter strike fan if cs go will really grew big as a e-sport I can finally go and watch something I like and not being forced to watch it just because it has huge fan .
Always wanted to meet with the pro's and I was hoping to see some of the future generation take the throne from our old pro's like Mini,Bogus,Soulkey,Action,Zero however these dream will never be fulfilled as if the death of bw taught me one thing that is there is no such as a long standing e-sport game which will last for generations to come instead it will always be replace by one hype up game after another and if broodwar is dead than so is starcraft to me .
So much for building e-sports when we allow great giants like broodwar to fall from the e-sport scene and like I mention earlier from my earlier I am really disappointed with how korea is handling the things right now . Broodwar is still pulling the crowds by the number and yet you are switching to sc2 ? What about making the broodwar scene much smaller reducing the team numbers just to few individuals and only host small individual tournaments ? By doing that they can have all the grand sc2 proleague all they want at least by reducing the broodwar scene they will give amateurs who are new to the scene to be small time champion and broodwar will last a few more years longer.

Looking at sc2 around the globe I can't say it's quite popular actually right now and for my country where moba game is the king Dota and friends etc . Hardly do I see some sc2 competition except a few colleges who hold small time tournaments and gift prizes just to play among themselves . So I guess I can see where you are coming not only sc2 is huge in america right now it's easier to connect because you can just drive down to your local pro scene and sit down and cheer for your favourite players in huge tournaments like NASL,MLG. Well that just only confirms what I have just said huge attractions will definitely pull people more to the game even though it's not perfect . So much talk about sc2 being a global phenomenon when it's hardly capturing the world at large .
Well nothing I say will change anything any way.... happy e-sports I guess.

I'm watching BWprogamers play SC2, no one else. But I'm not playing SC2. Unless the game improves and my BW favorites seem to enjoy it, then I might give it a try.

Any link you are willing share?

Lately ive been watching a lot of the broodwars streamers here on teamliquid(more people stream please! Sometimes no one is, and I'd be happy even if an E player was streaming), lots of good and fun games being played. I will probably try and pick up bw again myself since ive been getting the itch to play again. The clan scene seems big still and clan fights are always happening so those are fun to watch. I like the bw teams and the personalities with them, so I will try to watch them also when they switch to sc2, the bw teams are much more than just a game for me now and I actually like most of the players involved so I dont mind watching them in the future.

Customers in Asia don't like to buy software, only business will.
This is pretty much why most games developed or popular in asia uses F2P models. SC2 will be extremely hard to enter asia market with its current pricing model when people rather play free games

I will enjoy the game IF the game is enjoyable to watch

Always look at my bw: build orders (on my iphone) play my friends in 1v1 (even tho we are horrible) look back at the TSL2 vods i dled from TL.
Play sc2, and follow my gods into the new world (its time for us to clean it up)

Do you think Day[9] has considered going to Korea to cast some of the final BW matches along side SC2? I think it would be a great way to honor it's legacy and draw attention to the history.
He also has the resources to sponsor a BW archive, especially if he reached out to KESPA / OGN.
In their view, the more SC2 fans who become interested in the historic matches of the BW players the more popular they will be the minute they switch over to the sequel.

Show nested quote +I accepted that one day BW players would be making the switch to SC2.
Sawamura, I love you. I understand 100% how you feel. You are an example of the ppl that made me fall in love with TL. And while you are on the quest to find the next best fit for you competitive game, I may always be lingering around in the darkness of SC 1 and 2 whether it succeeds or not. I know it's just a title for a different game, but whatever the hell compels me to jump right in, my mind has already given me no chance but to follow along with the new game. Maybe it's the same reason why Day9 is so involved in SC2 so he can rebuild the love and passion that was there in the gaming world.
But no matter what game we choose to follow in the end, just love the other person for finding something they can be passionate about. We are all being judged by the outside world regardless of what competitive game is being played. It's those people when need to spend our energies on in order to enlighten them with how fun competitive gaming is.
I know that even before SC2 and to the present day, I spend every moment possible getting people involved in competitive gaming, whether it's and FPS, MOBA, RTS, etc. because there is one game out there for everyone to enjoy. eSports or Not, there is a community of us gamer nerds that need to respect each other and appreciate one another from the other side of the river.

i have zero respect for "gamer nerds" and don't consider myself one; just someone who likes to watch a funny little phenomenon in korea. it's great entertainment and also a very complex game that happens to have a big pro scene. it's like the football of video games, and i also love watching football (english, not american).
see, the thing is that football does not get replaced with football 2, with new offside rules, 12 players to a team and an oddly shaped ball. that is the meaning of a sport. the fundamental rules stay the same. neither are sports primarily created to be watched. they are created to be played.
those are the rules that sc2 broke and those are the reasons that will eventually cause its downfall. im willing to bet that if sc2 did not have starcraft in it, it'd probably sell less than half the copies. gamer nerds get very excited over new games made by big names, shiny graphics, and are constantly showing off their colourful keyboards. they spend a lot of time on many different games. for that reason they will keep hopping on whatever new bandwagon that passes by, and no amount of expansions will halt the advancement of new, shinier bandwagons.
it's sad that the world can no longer appreciate a classic thing. BW had the potential to become immortal like chess, but maybe blizzard and kespa failed to do something about it. while it lasted, BW was not a "esport" like they say, but a REAL sport unique to korea that had its own culture.
oh well. instead of partaking in senseless stupidity like "esports" *cough marketing machines*, id rather drive to the movies, read a book or something.
