So some korean guy told me on fish today that he is at an amateur house. It is just like a progamer house, but for amateurs. Instead of getting a salary, they have to pay monthly 400.000 wons (~350 usd). For that they get food and basicly live there, just like progamers. They have a coach and play 30-50 games a day. It's like a training for becoming a progamer. As a context, i heard B team progamers earn about 300.000 won a month. (? not sure)
I find it amazing that even now there are people in korea who are willing to pay (their parents') money to become a progamer. Anyone knows more about this?
UPDATE: ok so i guess this is not new to most people. the info here is that these houses still exist. i asked the guy and he said his house is called the NF-house (New Face)
Artosis' tour in [Name] house reposted:
most interesting info there to me was that the coach forbade playing all in builds lol
I am not wondering about the fact, that they pay for an progamer career, I am wondering more about the game. Yes BW is part of their culture and still popular. But you earn more money with sc2 plus in BW you actually only have good salaries if you are really good. But I think it is easier to become a very good competitor in sc2 as in BW, since the skill level in BW is already very very high.

I don't think becoming a progamer is about money for most people.

you dont get a salary with sc2 at all, unless your at a foreign team
but yeah sc2 is kind of the easier game, so if they are trying to make a living they should try sc2
Woah, I totally wish I could try that, even for a little while! Playing games day and night, talking with the dudes all the time, not having to worry about anything.. It's a dream come true~

Not necessarily parents paying for it. It's kind of like Go houses... it likes school for StarCraft players. You would try it for a bit to see if you like it and feel like you have any potential to do it. A parent might see it as a way to get it out of a manchild's system 'I'll pay for this long, if you succeed great, if not, you do what I tell you to do and get a job/real education.' Or in other words, give it your best shot and if you can't beat courage, you'll at least know you tried your best.
That's how I imagine it. Asians get a wrap about being super hardworking and parents being super unforgiving, and to an extent I suppose that must be true, but I think it's truer for Asian immigrants than it is for Asians living in their own countries. I read some studies that compared parental relationship between children and their parents, comparing Americans, Asian Americans, and Asians, and the results showed the most conflicts with Asian Americans. It fits with the literature and media I get from Asian countries too, since the parents are often depicted as pretty considerate and liberal compared to what we generally perceive as the Asian American parent's attitude. There's a sensitivity that looks like authoritative parenting style rather than authoritarian.

link anyone?
I remember he did a video for SCforall back then. I don't think its on Youtube. Maybe someone here have saved it on the computer? :-)
It was the [Name] house iirc. He did a tour of it back when [Name] was still around. Now afaik the house shut down and became a sc2 house.
y The [Name] house is now the team IM house that Nestea and others live in, also ...Neo.G_SexyBoy told me that they started a house called the "NF" house, (Neo.G / fOu ) home, where they pay 300-400 won a month , so that might be what you are talking about.

Are you sure it's 300-400 won per month and not 30000-40000 (or even 300000 or more)? 300 won amounts to pretty much nothing, even for me.
