Game recently made this thread showing a VOD of a replay with this neat plugin that I hadn't seen before depsite it being around for a long time. However, it's not easily accessible because it's incompatible with the current launchers and version of sc.
I just had to get that working! So I did some googling and stuff to get the right files, and some fiddling to make it work. Here is the result!
Initial notes: This doesn't seem to work perfectly. This is probably due to compatibility issues between new replays and an old version of bw.
VOD for demonstration:
1) Copy your entire StarCraft folder to somewhere else. No reason for you to fuck anything up.
These are (except for one) all the files you need! Edit: New hosting site! DL should work again!
3) As the .zip file says, extract its content to your new SC directory - replace everything that gets in the way of this action.
4) Back in the days, you needed the cd (specifically the file "INSTALL.EXE) to open sc. Yup, you'll need to get hold of that file somehow. For those of you who like me still have your bw disk, just open the main dir on the disk and copy INSTALL.EXE to somewhere on your computer (this can just be to your new SC dir, which is what I did). EDIT: You can now download INSTALL.EXE here!
5) Go to your new SC dir and open "BWLauncher", which should look like this:
5a: Click on "Set Install Path" and find INSTALL.EXE 5b: Make sure BWTVObserver plugin is set to "Load on start" 5c: Highlight the BWTVObserver plugin and click "Configure Plugin"
BWTV Mode's two options: 640*480 is when you wanna obs without all the info (apm and such). 800*600 is when you wanna obs with all that info.
For the FP view effect, check: Unit Selecting, Unit Pinging, Screen Interpolating!
When watching a replay with this plugin you'll need to know the hotkeys for controlling it. Click "Readme" to find these!
Don't worry about the other stuff... The "Detected players" and "Now Obsing" info is only there on my screen shot because I just watched a replay - it does this automatically.
Finally, click the X to get back to the main screen of BW Launcher.
6) Click "Run 1.13e!" to start sc. Load up a replay, but as I said earlier: "This doesn't seem to work perfectly". It works with most older replays, though I've also gotten it to work with game from patch 1.16.1 (as you see in the VOD). I'm still not sure exactly what is causing this problem, nor if it's fixable. Expiriment with it and you'll see what works and what doesn't. And please let me know if you know what the problem is or even how to fix it!
And that's pretty much it, I think. Please let me know if you have any trouble making it work, or if I forgot anything!
sweeet fuckin deal bro, sorry swearing has to be the first post this is awesome haha.
edit: gonna set it up now. edit2: well the Power cable that powers my second hard drive is what powered my cd rom drive, only thing is i cant have one or the other the damn cables dont reach lmfao. but im sure it will work when i get the chance. otherwise thanks.
Thanks for the guide, this program is awesome. I found that replays in my main folder will not load but if I try reps from any subfolder they work perfectly.
EDIT: Ok apparently not. I've tried about 10 reps from my wDetector and autoreplay folders and they all work but nothing else does.
I found out about this when I torrented some rather old NaDa FPVOD Pack from an IIRC 2001 MSL, and was in love with it, until I found out it had been discontinued and was no longer developed/supported for more recent patches. Now you make me want to go back on my scars, my lost hope; PenguinPlugin, please don't disappoint again.
FYI guys if you did the 1.15 patch thing to get the game to work without a cd for both vanilla SC and Brood War, you can just copy Starcraft.mpq and rename it to Install.exe (the reverse of the operation that was done to get vanilla SC to work without a disc)

well he did mention that it work in 1.16 replays, but not completely.. you can try though..
This looks really cool. I am having trouble getting it up and running. I extracted everything to the Starcraft folder, but when i run bwlaucher i get the following error:
[lib] Patch Error(w3lh.dll): Could not open Game.dll
Does anyone have an idea about what might be going wrong?
When i click run with Load On Startup selected. I get the error sound repeated about ten times in the background at a fast rate so not annoying.
Without Load On Startup selected it turns on scbw, i can load replays, some replays cause the screen to go black (suggesting its loading the addon), then it crashes the game. While other games just don't do anything to the screen, and the replay can work fine (without any features still though).
when i see that my bandwidth cap has reset for this month. ill try again by using your .exe file.
edit: jeez thats funny, tried to lower my res to 800x600, then after i did it instantly recalled to check the res setting in the CONFIG area of the addon, i had it at 640x480, then tried 800x600, it worked fine. UPDATE: it crashed, and im sad : ( its fun to watch me on firstperson haha. not when it crashes tho. : ( but also helpful to see if im spending one too many seconds at any given location ^_^. but not when it crash, still fun to see! not when it crash!

I rename starcraft.mpq to install.exe and presto I get a funcitoning install.exe and i can watch replays in fpvod XD.
Hello I remember that when this program was launched, a lot of hackers were founded because they stay a lot of time watching to enemys base without having scouted first xd.
It would be amazing if someone update this software for 1.16.1 , maybe masterofchaos ? :D
I switched off avast for 1 hour to watch any fpvods replays that's what got it to work . Although the fpvod is working in the replay it seems that the mineral and gas counter isn't working . I don't know how you got it to work xsebt .

Do you have a "Game.dll" in your sc folder? I don't... Which version of sc are you using? Iccup's? Because I haven't tested it with that version. Maybe some files in that version will conflict with this launcher.

I'm able to use 640*480 (no info screen) aswell with most replays. Sometimes mine crash after the replay is finished. I don't really mind it doing that, but usually I end the replay before it stops anyway.
And about the malware detection... I really don't know - I get nothing, and I've even scanned that specific .dll file with microsoft's security essentials, which also finds nothing. I highly doubt there are any risks following the file. I would assume that it's mainly due to it being a .dll file and it being old or weirdly written, making it conflict with AV somehow.

my programming skill is really at a newbie level and i doubt I can give a shot how the program collects mineral and all the data to display in to the launcher .The things looks so complicated I wonder if we could at least contact the author of this program and help us a release a patch or so . Although probably they are gone forever from the bw scene which is most likely is .

I would love for this plugin to be patched and made compatible with the current launchers, but I can't perform such miracles either.
Random display of data of players I haven't even started watching yet ..
No mineral data, gas, supply counter is zero at all time .I know xsebt can't do anything but i am just wondering how many users are having the same problem as I am .

Did you do step 5c where I tell you: "When watching a replay with this plugin you'll need to know the hotkeys for controlling it. Click "Readme" to find these!". For the mineral counter etc. (bottom bar) to be active you need to click the hotkeys for it.
Here are those hotkeys: G - Scroll counter clockwise to select the player you wish to watch in the "first person" view. H - Scroll clockwise to select the player you wish to watch in the "first person" view. J - Clear your current "first person" view. T - Scroll counter clockwise to view statistics of X player on the first row. Y - Scroll clockwise to view statistics of X player on the first row. B - Scroll counter clockwise to view statistics of X player on the second row. N - Scroll clockwise to view statistics of X player on the second row.
More specific to your problem, you'll need T and B!

>< omg sorry I should have read the read me thoroughly, my bad it is working now thanks xsebt .
Eh.. the surrounding bar doesnt show that much important information to be honest.. would be more useful to have a high resolution hack and maphack for more compact information instead.

Nice! I remember a program by the name of penguin plugin that had an fpvod feature, but that was years back.. hard to believe so much time has passed..
Edit: I gave the program a try. Made a copy of main sc folder to another location as recommended, extracted files, turned off mcafee due to trojan file and proceeded to watch a rep. the beginning was alright, however halfway through, the replay screwed up (what you'd expect from a broken rep, a different game then what actually happened) I decided not to use it and rather wait for a less buggy release. So, I deleted that sc folder and reverted back to my original one.. however, now I can't launch sc due to not having an aar/mapdata.dat file. It's an hassle having to dig out my sc cds and reinstalling everything, so can anyone please be kind enough to upload their mapdata.dat file to a file sharing site? Thanks!
Appogize for the illegible pic, but the window says:
Data File Error
"Starcraft was unable to open a required file. If this problem persists, try uninstalling and reinstalling starcraft using the program SETUP.exe on the Starcraft cd-rom.
The problem occured while trying to load a file arr\mapdata.dat
This program issued a command but the command length is incorrect."
I don't know what happened either.. maybe you can put all the regular sc files in rar file and upload it so I can copy and paste those files into my sc folder to overwrite potentially corrupt files?. All files excluding the folders and the broodwar.mpq file or install.exe file.
Edit: Actually, now that I think about it, I'll just use the iccup version of bw to reinstall bw

No I do not have Game.dll in the folder....it doesnt appear to be in the version from iccup nor the one digital version downloaded directly from Blizzard. I suppose it is possible that there might be a conflict with some files from chaoslauncher or BWAPI or something else i have stored in that folder.

Sorry Necosarius, I have no idea what's causing it. DO you have install.exe? And have generally followed every single step of the guide? =/

Oh I fixed it! Just needed to replace a .dll file But now I can't find BWTV in the plugins!? Yes I have install.exe.

Edit: nevermind, fixed this as well >_> lol
Is there no way to get it in window mode?
I chose not to respond because I assumed you'd fix it yourself. ^^
Wmode? Hmm, don't think so. But I think it's already in some kind of alternative wmode-like state when using this plugin. That's just judging from it running a little choppy on my computer - just like wmode does on my computer. Sorry, I just don't know.
Sorry to bump this. The game.dll question. Do I just download the online client from blizzard and it should work from there since some of you guys probably don't have the dll (or can't find it) and could still run the bwtvobserver?
I found out yesterday my Broodwar isn' t working. When i open it with Iccup launcher it just "twitches" back and forth from bw to windows screen. When i open it with normal sc and try to connect to battle.net it becomes unresponsive. when i open it on LAN on single player it works. Don' t understand its very weird and doesn' t make any sense.

Delete bncache.dat and try again, if that doesn't work then a fresh install of bw should help.
Unforurtunately it doesn't seem to work for me. First I got the "game.dll is missing" error. I overcame that by re-installing sc+bw with the original CDs. However, when I launch bwtv, the "Run 1.13e!" button is greyed out no matter what I do. Also tried copying starcraft113f.exe but to no avail. It's a pity these altruistic programmers faded into oblivion.
