After contemplating for a long time, I have decided to retire.
First I want to apologize to my fans.
I am a bit sad since it has been four years since I became a professional gamer and I have not won a title that I can be proud of. Ha ha ha.
Especially since I didn't perform well after transferring to Woongjin and carrying the momentum while I was doing well in eStro.
I tried my best for my fans, preparing for the MST but it didn't go my way. But I still find solace in that I had fun playing the game for once in a long time. ^^
I grateful towards the fans that always cheered me on even with disappointing results.
I hope you'll continue to cheer for Woongjin and those of you who bash it, stop. (TN: I think that's he's saying, stop the woongjin hate on the Korean forums and such)
I hope all of you stay healthy and have a merry life. Goodbye__
What? I know he hasn't been the "Proleague Terran" recently that he used to be, but this is odd. He just moved up in Kespa ranking to the top 30 as well.
He's been performing really poorly. No this isn't my pun attempt. I actually liked him a lot. Another one gone... Damn. It's tough being a BW fan these days.

Wasn't there an interview a year ago where he mentioned that, if given a chance to go back and decide whether to be a professional gamer, he would rather not do it? I'm not really surprised by his move, cause I always seem to get the impression that he's just following through the motion like a job and does not possess the passion like some of the players.

Progamers are getting old. All those who don't have Boxer 30s gamer aspirations will be dropping like flies, no doubt. New blood should continue to be interesting to see though.

i think BW is increasingly becoming seen as a game where it wont survive by the point they reach 30. and they're only retiring from BW.
Whatt!? I even had him on my FPL and FMSL team, even though he isn't performing that well these past couple of months. Even though he's not that good, I still like watching his games . Goodbye Really.

yeah I think that was in that interview with Artosis
No but seriously, he was one of my favorite terran's to watch. I remember when Day9 did a daily of him destroying JangBi which at the time was #1 vT ELO of all time. Only then did I realize how great and intelligent his vs P really was.

GL in whatever you decide to do in your life Park Sang Woo.
I think he has depression while playing and like he always grunt after he loses. He was the ACE player of ESTRO and now he playing as 4th player competing spot with Light on Wonjin.
Wow, this is bullshit. The guy is so young, and Ive seen him performing so well. I have nothing against SC2, but if retires and becomes a SC2 player, Ill be in a mix of confused and mad. Someone as good as him, with a grip for Starcraft, shouldnt been retiring like that.

I remember he was asked if he would let his son be a progamer and really answered no way.
You know estro terrans are quite good. And he was the best of the bunch
Solid Terran, sad to see him leave. I was wondering when he was going to retire though, he always looked like he hated being in that booth... Anyway, GL to him.
Sad to see Really go. I wonder if a lot of these retirements are because some players feel that BW doesn't have a lot of time left, and since they haven't won much in their career so far they feel that even if they get good enough to win a starleague, BW won't be around long enough for them to reap the rewards of becoming one of the best.
Really, you're my sc hero, you're the one who made me love estro. Your use of blind in TvP during the mechanic era of SC was simply inspiring! Keep being a boss!
This game is a must watch for everybody: edit: lame

Damn, really getting owned by kwanro's murder drones is one of my favourite matches. Sad to see him go, but you can't really say no one saw this coming.
Really nooooooo! He couldn't TvZ for his life, but his TvP and TvT were sometimes downright phenomenal, a lot of very unique and entertaining stuff. Actually, I've been contemplating doing some random writeup on a selection of his games for a while, but then I got engaged in the Unsung series instead...
He really was underwhelming today in the MST, I can't help thinking he wasn't too motivated - no wonder though with such thoughts looming over him. GLHF in life Park Sang Woo!

I bet you were reminded of Really vs Jangbi on Match Point first as well
I never got the impression that Really was enjoying his time as a BW pro. I remember that interview he had with Artosis and I thought that he had come off as sad. He also hasn't been doing well on Woongjin. I hope he enjoys whatever he moves onto next.
One of the bad things about the Korean BW scene is since it's completely zero-sum not every player can have great results, which makes even solid players like Really feel inadequate.
Very sad, Really was that unique kind of Terran who excelled at TvP but never quite had the aggression down in TvZ. That game against Jangbi on Match Point is how I'll always remember him, its the first thing I think of whenevever his name comes up.
This makes me sad, first MBC is (in essence) shutting down, and now really, who destroyed two of my FPLs by himself and had shown so much promise while at eStro, is retiring
Maybe we'll see him in SC2? Although I think that's a bit of a naughty thought :X
I always will remember him for giving us the worst TvZs in BW history.
He had something going for him last season but from his interviews he seemed like a type of guy who gets let down really easily. The rise of SC2 can't have helped his state of mind. Oh well, army or sc2.

Or the impossible circumstance where he had the passion then lost it? The stress and grueling work required in this profession is not easy and it wears you down.
Good luck in your future endeavors Really. He was a good terran that gave us some great games, its sad to see him go. Perhaps he will pull an EffOrt and come back after a year of relaxation and "real" life.
Please no one construed that BW is dying because of this, its just a player who is tired of being a player and wants a regular life. Contrary to popular belief being a pro gamer isn't all its cracked up to be.
Sad news, I always liked Really but not too surprising either. His poor performance after the move and the fact that Woongjin now have Light to fill their Terran position means that Really wouldn't see much ProLeague play anyway. Coupled with, as others have mentioned, his lack of passion for the game it's a logical move to move on.
Best luck with your life and you will be missed Really.

Sad to see another solid player leaving BW, but I can emphathize with his regrets for choosing prgaming as a career. It is unfortunate that most players are past their prime at ages of 21~22 with no education and training for a career afterwards.
I remember reading about an old school player 박신영 getting accepted to a really prestigious management program in Korea at Sogang Uni but haven't heard of anyone else transitioning succesfully into life outside of e-sports.
You will be missed Really. I wish you the best for whatever you pursue in the future.
Ohh Really, I'll miss you TT I remember your TvP && Kwanro's drones eating you alive... Such a sad day D= You'll be missed I can't ever confuse Really and Reality again Good luck Really, you'll be missed. Edit: Oh look another, can this stop?
I remember that old interview Artosis did for SCforAll with Really where he said he wouldn't switch to SC2 and he would end his progaming career after BW. I guess this is all we will see of Really.
Oh man this sucks. Come to think of it Really hasn't been playing for Woongjin for quite some time. During the SPL playoffs it was always hOn_sin coming out instead.

Really played in the play-offs too, beat Barracks and then lost twice to Flash
Jesus christ, is this just going to be the summer of bad news? Good luck to Really in whatever he chooses to do, though. Still, it's sad to see a talent like him give up.
Ughhh. Now I feel bad about my comments in the thread for his MST group. He was playing badly recently but you don't know what you've got til it's gone. I will miss you Really

I'm pretty sure people started noticing Really when he was optical flaring observers and shuttles in TvP on matchpoint... and it worked.
No, what is it exactly that you're trying to do here? It's not funny or post worthy in any way - it's just plain rude and immature. If you don't have shit to say, then don't say shit for fuck's sake.
Anyway, back on topic:
It seems things are just getting worse and worse for the BW community... Really was one of my all time favorite players. His macro and game sense were superbly underrated, and a lot of eStro fans complained that he wasn't a proper ace.
But I always found myself cheering for him. The first time I saw Really play, it was in a Proleague match against Best on Katrina. At the time, Best was in his prime - plus it was on Katrina, a Protoss map to boot. I thought it would be an easy win for the Protoss monster. But in a strange turn of events, the relatively unknown Terran, Really, won! And it wasn't by cheese or tricky play; it was a straight up macro game. Here was a man who wasn't afraid to get into a macro-fest with Best. I was amazed; as of that moment, I became a devout Really fan.
What drew me in was his thoughtful style and unbelievably strong macro. Later on, his innovative usage of medic flares to nullify observers completely blew my mind and renewed my faith in his greatness. I'm incredibly sad to see him go, and I wish him luck in the future. Thanks for all the great games ;_;
It's clear to me his heart hasn't been in it for a while -- BUT you have to wonder how much this was influenced by netizens. After his proleague losses to flash and then his futility in the MST he no doubt got a lot of flak for his play. "lol terrible games" etc etc. He was probably pretty depressed already after being in a slump for quite a long time, and I can't imagine the constant criticism helping. I think Kwanro probably retired for similar reasons.

Kwanro's retirement was definitely catalyzed by coach park, unfortunately. I think the same can be said of Really. I don't think the team itself was exactly buddy buddy with him. On the ads, it demonstrated some awkwarditee...

Source for kwanro statement?
Sad that he's leaving, but he has his reasons and I wish him luck in the future.
this is such sad news to wake up to man I really liked his play especially when he had that epic tvp streak with medics and beat flash and everything ( best of luck tohim
Sad. Really had the potential to be a great player, even now still. But he just never got there and in the end he was probably just tilting or something considering that some of his games were far under what he was capable of.
It makes me sad to think about that everyone you've been following in this game for so many years will one day stop playing and possibly disappear from esports. I hope that players who drop out of the BW pro scene will continue their journey into SC2 and chase that champion title rather than throw in the towle for good.
Not surprising. He had an interview with artosis a while back and he didn't seem at all motiviated to play games. That was right after he snapped FlaSh's 22 game win streak in TvT, arguably the high point of his career. doubt he'll play sc2 either.
Goodbye Sea.Really/Seiya. Your great Vult-Tank and midgame dropship TvT was a pleasure to watch. Thanks for all the great games and goodluck in the future.
Really was the guy with the optic flare on Match Point? Even if it wasn't as cool as seeing it against lurkers recently, it was fairly awesome. I remember watching that when I started following the Korean scene. All the best, Really
On August 03 2011 12:25 stanik wrote: This is an honest question.
What are the odd's that he gives sc2 a try?
My question spurs from my perception where in BW the scene is pure and giving SC2 a try is sellout and or traitorous.
-----------------------
This is coming from my interpretation that anyone with BW mechanics could carry over to SC2 and succeed.
Most bw players who want to switch already have so when a bw progamer announces his retirement that usually means from progaming itself. Also, nobody ever said that switching to sc2 is bad. Whats bad is when sc2 fans keep wishing that bw players will switch so that they will liven up their scene. Make ur own heroes.
I don't think that progamers are retiring at a faster rate now than in the past, but that's just a feeling. It's always sad to lose a player. I was never a big Really fan, but I watched a bunch of his games and rooted for him often. I hope there's a good post-progaming future ahead of him.
I can remember when Really said he almost retired when eStro disbanded. I guess he never found the motivation to be as good as before, hence his poor results after joining W.Stars.
There's 150+ progamers, so retirements will occasional occur. Most players start playing professionally between 16-19, and careers start to unwind by 22-24. With such a small timeframe to be a top player, retirements are common. Are they more common than before SC2? I'm not sure. Besides Effort, a player hasn't retired when they are a top 15 player. When we start to see top 15 players leaving, then I'd worry.
Always a shame when a solid brood war progamer retires. As I never really rooted for him before I wouldn't mind if he switched to SC2, but I just get the feeling he's done with progaming period. There's no need to cry about the downfall of brood war just because of 1 retirement though. MBCgame shutting down is a threat to e-sports, an average terran player retiring in the twilight of his career is not.
Well if he was going to retire, now was the time to do it. The PL season is over and he had dropped out of his MST group. I will always remember Really as the man who broke Flash's incredible TvT streak. I wish him the best of luck in whatever he chooses to do next.
Ah the pain of retirement and loss. It leaves such a bitter feeling among everyone involved. I find it interesting that even though everyone knows things like this are inevitable, they are always so moved by it. The feeling of loss can really bring many different types of people together more than anything else.
Good luck Really. I wish you the best of success in your life.

At the risk of catching some hate, IMO idra/artosis had always overrated Really.
Don't get me wrong, Really was an absolute beast, solid as a rock. He was like the ideal practice partner and proleaguer, but never had that something-extra-special to put him over the top.

He was much better than both of them, but he was never overall solid, to be honest. His TvT was probably his most stable matchup. Earlier in his career when he was on Estro, he was one of the odd Terrans like Hiya and Fantasy who had very good TvP/TvT but bad TvZ. After his swap to Woongjin it seemed his TvZ massively improved, but his TvP became a crippled matchup in turn.
He was always in that 10-5th best terran range, never really great, but you couldn't count him out against most people.

He was very good in late 2009, early 2010, as I linked to just a few posts into the thread. He was ranked #3 PR in January 2010 (technically #4 since MBC Power Outage was so gosu).
Really sad to see an A-teamer retiring when most of the retirements were either B-teamers or gamers long pass their peak.
I don't like Really for his beastly vP because I have a heavy bias towards the Protoss race. I'll always miss him as someone who can make me grind my teeth whenever he played against good Protoss.
BW, where are you now? One team down (probably) next Proleague with B-teamers replacing A-teamers?
SC God, please give me back the 12-team Proleague... also bless Really.

Hmm... that may well have contributed to his retirement. I mean Light's transfer and the "emergence" of Hon_sin. That kind of pushed Really into the background. He was supposed to be Woongjin's Terran ace when he first joined their team.
Nooooo Really =( One of the few non imba and CJ players I liked. I know he was mediocre, but I liked him a lot. Sad to see him go.......Weird I post in a Really thread, but I didn't in the Yellow or Oov ones lol.

Very depressing, he was one of my favorite players :C. The part about the Korean netizens bashing Woongjin was interesting. I guess I've learned to adjust my expectations when appropriate. This combined with all the other retireees, the STX fandago, MBC shutting down, BW's situation is looking pretty dismal :c. News of a new team would be wanted now more than ever
He sounded sick and tired of progaming since awhile ago. At least a year ago if not much further back. He said it was too difficult a lifestyle and the struggle to be the best has drained his love of game. It's good he retires. Hopefully he sparks fire in some other interest now.
The best Really game I saw was the ones with mines, turrets, and optic flare. Man that was cool. But I never liked him... cuz you know... everyone knows... eStro sucks.
Despite the gloomy atmosphere, this man has a place. That what is seen and what is not seen. What is not seen is the new no name rookies entering the scene. there is no news content, little knowledge and talk due to uncertainty regarding them. hence the apparent disharmony between entry and exit.

What are they going to do when they retire? I know few old progammers who retired are living day by day (ie. manual labour) because they do not have any sufficient qualifications for any other professions. Sad to see him retiring, at least I would hope to see him again in SC2 near future.

Why specifically SC2?
Any other games are not popular in Korea, so the leagues are generally very small despite the competitiveness. I believe SC2 is the only area which has sufficient fundings (and still growing) and further, where Really can make most use of his amazing SC:BW skills.

We all know Artosis is salivating at the opportunity to grab him for Sixjax. One step closer to the Inka/Gosi[Terran]/Really trifecta.
I think this will be the first among a wave of progamers retiring. I hope it's not true but I just get the feeling that it's that time when all the players I have watched in bw start moving on with life.
