Keep any SC2 vs BW comments out of this thread. This is a thread about Brood War and Esports (Tekken Crash, Special Forces, etc) in general. If you discuss what this means for ESPORTS be sensitive about it.

I have no doubt that many will shed a tear at this. Let's hope that somewhere down the line, MBC will return to its gaming roots.

I can't imagine this going over very well in korea.

We saw that in SC2, teams feel the urge to go abroad to get more money ( probably mostly because there's only one league and it's so difficult to get into code S). Now that BW has only one league, there might be a problem there too as teams will basically compete for less money than they had before. Also, the fact that MBCGame dies could show the popularity goes down for BW. Bad stuff for BW anyway

Sure everything is done needs to go with time that argument is pretty farce in my opinion are you trying to say that anything that has work before and tried has to be washed down the drain just to accommodate to the markets these days . Especially the ADD generation ? I don't think so traditional sport such as golf itself retain its competitiveness despite there being new technology to get the ball more higher , to cut the slice, to make sure your drive gets 30 yards more longer . Has the game change ??? I don't think so why does it have to change for broodwar ? For people are not willing to put in time to get better to enjoy a game that what is needed is much more time and understanding ? . Bw itself it's sport it demands that you have a strong mentality that you are able to win against no matter what is the odd is laid in front of you . You have to have strong nerve because if you don't you are surely probably will gg the first time you are played upon crowds of fan and pressure in front of you . In other words no we don't have to water down the already needed requirements for bw to be a game to reach masses and if you want to do so . Please kindly go to another rts game made by blizzard just recently released . You kind of contradicted yourself here my friend While I agree that BW needed no changes by itself, you pointed to golf as an example of a game that needs no change. When in fact, it has been changed radically by both new technology & equipment as well as minor changes in tournament rules and regulations. The poster here was trying to argue that e-sports is fundamentally different than traditional sports. In catering almost solely to a young crowd, it's got to reinvent itself from time to time. Some people would argue that sc2 is that reinvention while traditionalists don't even recognize it. For me, my complaints about bw are petty and simple; i can't rally workers to minerals and bind groups over 12 units deep. For BW players, their complaints are simple: you can't put lipstick on a pig (they have a hard time describing their grievances and usually stick to summary). This would have been a better situation if blizzard had instead of making a whole new game simply never stopped patching SC:BW until it satisfied everyone's needs. (but patches are free and new games are sources of revenue) Of course you got people like my grandfather who cannot believe they allow metal-alloy clubs instead of wooden ones, when changes are implemented slowly they have time to be fleshed out and they can stay or fall by their own individual merits. The big issue here is Starcraft losing ground in any capacity. Golf wouldn't be where it is today if there were golf 1.0 and golf 2.0, each complete with their separate set of players, rules, equipment and fans. We need to come together as fans of starcraft to mourn the loss of a league like MBC, and figure out what we can do as a community to prevent additional slippage. I'll watch a little more ongamenet, and you guys maybe watch a little more gomtv, and maybe together we can hold ground. On the one hand I thought e-sports was growing, and then I see this and I scratch my head - what's going on?

Nothing ever makes sense when it comes to TV stations.

O_o Ok I'm going to preempt zatic telling everyone not to hit report on everything again, cos i'm sure a dozen people just hit report on this: The reason why this sort of post would get mass reported, despite the polite tone, and no overt bashing of either game. Is that this is exactly the post that BW fans do not want to see. Keeping in mind that this is in the BW general forum, while sc2 players/fans have every right to talk about the effects of MBC closing down on their game. This specifically talks about the potential benefits to sc2 due to the decline of bw. An analogy would be showing up at the funeral of a competitor and giving a eulogy on how the upcoming collapse of his company is going to benefit you as a competitor. While it is reasonable, there is a place and time for it. This particular choice of place and time just seems, to me at least, in bad taste.

TV executives making bad decisions seems to be the common law of the day. Either way, I am in favor of more gaming stations. Streams seem to be really picking up in popularity these days.
