Keep any SC2 vs BW comments out of this thread. This is a thread about Brood War and Esports (Tekken Crash, Special Forces, etc) in general. If you discuss what this means for ESPORTS be sensitive about it. |

If the news was that gomtv was shutting down and some BW dudes came into the thread to tell me I should switch to BW, I would punch them in their noses

Starcraft 2 single handedly brought e-sports from a terrible spot that it has been in for years now in the global sense and in under a year made the main stage for so many events it is unreal. So many SC2 tournaments play for some serious money, how it got where it is in such a short time is nothing short of a miracle. If SC2 is a disappointment I am sorry but your expectations are completely out of this world. That being said I believe in a world where both can coexist just fine and I dont see BW going away anytime soon. It has because of the success of it's predecessor. If it was a random new game, it would never had the same success.
If that were true SC2 would have died like a few months in. See Halo? New one had like several concurrent esports hits and is now on serious decline after a really short time.
Counter Strike source? Do people even remember that game exists? Can't say SC2 owes its current global popularity to anything but itself since after a few months thats all its left with. and BW does not need to go anywhere either and I am sure it will continue to be played by very very many people for a very long time.

so many memories =/
i suppose it's important to remember that TV isn't exactly the platform for promoting content aimed at teenagers and young men anymore
|
|
Sigh. Just sigh. The end of an era indeed.
On a side note, can you disrespectful shitheads not mention some other game during our period of mourning? We're not going to hell for loving what we love, so stop trying to fucking convert us like it's the fucking inquisition.
|
Seriously I'm so angry right now I just broke my glass.
At least there are still the OSL and SPL, if those shut down then I'm done with E-sports, until maybe 10 years from now when SC2 finally "matures".
|
wowowowowow
hopefully OGN stays strong
maybe MBC can try and pick up sc2 to save it?
|
during the lawsuit last year i remember the MBC CEO announcing that they were already pressed and barely broke even/made an overall loss running starcraft on their channel and they did their best to ensure that the staff and players got paid
is it really that much of a surprise that MBC decided to shut down? MBC already decided to run 3 more (including the current season) MSL's after that interview just for the fans and the development of esports
from an economic point of view the most fucking logical course of action is to close the channel
|
Oh fuck me I am absolutely shattered, this is terrible news
|
So sad, I've had countless memories watching epic matches on MSL. Even like the little variety shows they have. Let's just hope the last final is a great one
|
I think I'm gonna throw up. This is a sad, sad day for all of us.
|
Please tell me this is some horrible dream. WAKE ME UP!!!!
|
When I first saw the white bar on the top I thought this was an old bump, and that the news weren't real...
But I guess optimism will remain, well, optimism.

As long as there is no bashing on either game there is no reason why people should not post what this could mean for the future of SC2 and/or BW. Especially as a major game broadcaster closing would be a huge blow as well to SC2, being a niche thing in Korea. We're reporting them precisely because anyone who reads this thread before posting would understand that MBCGame dying is not good for SC2, and therefore "cya BW see u in SC2 Flash" posts demonstrate at best an inability to comprehend written language and at worst a refusal to observe common etiquette by reading a thread before responding to it. The practice of showing up in a thread to read the OP and drop a one-line reply is a cancer that I would rather not see spread into the BW forums. 200 one-liners of QQ don't exactly promote reading through the thread to find the 3 posts that actually explain why this is bad for SC2.
If you want to help the forum PM the OP so he can edit this into the opening. Do something yourself and don't call on to moderation just becuase you don't like some posts.

Now now so you are now trying to argue that precedent doesn't set things rolling or reap benefit from previous success okay lets say that is the case . How about halo 2 and Halo 3 yes sponsors change each halo games with the latest one and now let's just say Halo combat evolved was a flop it didn't even manage to get any sales at all . Would people actually buy its successor such as halo2 and the next halo .
I don't think so not at all and talking about counter strike source yes I wasted my whole **** life on it just to reach a pro gaming status in the champion ship gaming series obviously i remembered it and cs source is actually quite doing well in terms of pub matches and frequent scrims among local although compared to it's predecessor i wouldn't have become a fan of counter strike source if it was released under a different probably counter terrorism source instead of counter strike source .
At least take into consideration that bw has engraved a pathway to blizzard to earn all their hard earn cash over the hype of it's main flagship that is Starcraft & Broodwar .Without it obviously nobody would even bought sc2 and played it competitively .

And most people are right. SC2 has a very different feel so provides little comfort to many BW fans. That is why we must preserve what can be preserved.
For example, new custom maps for leagues should look like BW maps, just in 3D. Too many maps look too much like WC3 (meadow landscapes) or C&C (cityscapes) for my taste. I need more oldschool Starcraft feeling with Broodwar-like map design. That is one example out of many what can be preserved. Other things will change and we can do nothing about it.

Oh man, never expected this to happen. So the entire channel is just being turned into a music channel from a game channel? What?
|
Well, it had a good run. MBCGame was or still is a legendary gaming channel and im sure it wont have any problems filling its scrapbook with tons of extraordinairy memories.
Im really starting to miss the old times I wanna go back to 2006.

This is terrible news for Esports in general, whether your a SC2 or BW fan it doesn't matter. I'd love to hear from someone more informed on the inner working of the Korean scene, to tell us if this is the beginning of a decline and a trend that's going to continue, or an isolated incidence of one organization shutting down for its own reasons.

Oh yeah I mean Brood War is like. One of the 3 franchises that grandfathered all of electronic sports easily, if not the first one. I apologize if I implied anything else. Im just saying these 3 dont need to literally take credit for everything else that comes up down the line for all eternity. And yeah Source had a hay day but it seems 1.6 reovertook source now.
It's sad MBCGame is considering shutting its doors down in favor of...... KPop.....of all things. Not really grasping my head around that one. Im guessing it is really friggin cheap to run a Kpop channel.
