MBCGame to shut down? - Page 49
Forum Index > BW General |
Keep any SC2 vs BW comments out of this thread. This is a thread about Brood War and Esports (Tekken Crash, Special Forces, etc) in general. If you discuss what this means for ESPORTS be sensitive about it.

We will see a bigger influx of progamers switch from BW to SC2 next month (August) when a lot of players become free agents (now that MBC is not gonna be promoting BW anymore, the mid level/low level progamers will definitely have a bigger incentive to switch over to something else) Bad news for SC:BW but I think this may be good news for SC2.Let's see how things turn out. Nevertheless, its gonna become a music channel!?!wtf? O_o I don't understand why everyone thinks there will be this natural transition to SC2 from the BW players. If the attitude of the players is the same as their loyal fanbase, they'll do anything BUT that. Which brings up an interesting point. The players would probably switch if they felt like they had support from their fanbase doing it. Are BW fans willing to support their HERO players during these times, no matter what choice makes them happy? Or are they fair weather fans

I'm pretty sure most will flock to where the money is, it's not a personal thing, it's business. Seems pretty reasonable for some of the top BW players try their hand in SC2 and win $ there considering the success of b-teamers and former a-teamers in sc2 currently.

The company that operates MBCGame has decided to change it into a music cable channel instead, planning to begin the process in August and complete the switch by the end of the year. All game related activities will be wrapped up by then, with the current MSL becoming the final MBCGame Starcraft League. They haven't said it was finalized...but they are in discussion of changing its genre to music. There are still chances that it might not decide to switch to a music channel.

Or are they fair weather fans I don't think anyone would reasonably make the "natural transition" claim, but rather he is pointing out that the shift in incentives on a talent pool may produce certain effects for SC2. But I generally agree with the doubleupgrades that this really isn't the time to talk about it.

Is that this is exactly the post that BW fans do not want to see. Keeping in mind that this is in the BW general forum, while sc2 players/fans have every right to talk about the effects of MBC closing down on their game. This specifically talks about the potential benefits to sc2 due to the decline of bw. An analogy would be showing up at the funeral of a competitor and giving a eulogy on how the upcoming collapse of his company is going to benefit you as a competitor. While it is reasonable, there is a place and time for it. This particular choice of place and time just seems, to me at least, in bad taste. Thank you. The point it there is lots of things on this forum lots of poeple probably don't want to hear about. Well, deal with it. It can't be left to moderation to to act on perfectly fine posts just because someone "doesn't want to see" them. There is a lot of people saying this could be good for SC2 because unless you know about the reality of it in Korea, that is just logical. It has nothing to do with hating on the other game. If you see something like this, explain why they are wrong. If it happens more often, PM the OP so he can put an explanation there. My point is, this can't be the job of moderation. So stop reporting posts like these.

And running through the first 27 pages of this topic makes me realize just how much I'd like to see a tl.broodwar and a tl.scII This is getting ridiculous. It's been so nice to see the battle reports again, but we're down interviews thanks to Fomos. We had arguably one the most pitiful OSL intros and selection ceremony this year. STX is resorting to fireworks to try and stay alive. MBC might disband. Fancafes are getting shut down. We have to scroll through miles of SC II events just to get to what we want. Now, when we get some seriously bad news, we have to sift through half a topic of people telling us how the sport we've come to love is just this little hole in the dike of the flood waters of some superior game? Fuck that. Brood War hwaiting!

Basically MBC Game says that the decision isn't finalized yet. Hopefully they continue to handle games. The profit margin must have been falling for them to consider a switch instead of just creating another channel?

Fuck that. Brood War hwaiting! 1) I agree that the decline in coverage and activity is very sad. 2) Please try to remember, though I understand the source of your frustration, that many people are dedicated fans of both games, so the us and them mentality, admitting that fans of either game are not always articulate, mature, or thoughtful in expressing their views, is a bit of a false dichotomy.
