I've been watching SC:BW for 2 years now and I've been picking up on a couple of words...would appreciate it if someone could help me out.

"Aigoo"
"Dae Bak"
"Teh mo neh"

If people have other words, besides easy ones like wraiisuuu and others like that, would be awesome to post them!

Thanks

Actually, while we are on the topic, can someone explain why in a fluidly sounding Korean speech sometimes a commentator goes "KKKGHHHH" all of a sudden? Is that part of some word? It sounds completely out of place, as if he's expectorating.

The reason most of them add yu or such is to make it honorfic(From the top of my head). In the Korean speech there is such a thing as formal and informal language, barried by these honorfics. To a broad public, one should always talk formal Korean, hence the additions to the normal english words.

I think your getting it a little mixed up, the way Koreans pronounce english words in a funny way is because they pronounce those words as if they were written in korean, which is why you get that blocky and funny pronunciation like "juh-guh-ling" for "zergling" or "play-gu" for "plague". But your correct about the honorifics

What does: "Krosimidao" means? I've been picking that up for several years whilst watching SC:BW, and I want to know what it means When they say it, it's often in places where it could be something like "Aha", but they sometimes yell it out loud to.

What does this mysterious word mean?

dae bak means awesome? I always thought it meant something like "traitor" because dae bak mines always do more damage to their owner. I guess that is just a coincidence.

Probably just saying "Protoss-ga", which just sets the word "Protoss" as the subejct of the sentence.

Why are you guys mentioning units and spells? They are not really korean words and it's pretty obvious what they mean.

Jung Sorim (girl commentator) says : ProtossGa (프로토스가).
Between name or adjective, we add Ga or i (가/이) after the name!

Example: - StarcraftGa JoAYo (스타크래프트가 좋아요) = Starcraft is good
- Terrani SileoYo 테란이 싫어요 = Terran is bad

It means "this one timing" in context: jaedong only had that one timing to come back or the game was over.
KKKKKRRRGGHJ is just a sound some old Korean men make it doesn't really mean anything e.g. He drinks a shot of soju and KKKKRRRGGHHH or someone makes a really good play: KKKRRRGGHH that was very good play! ... dunno if you guys get what I'm saying lol

AHHH PACTORYYYYYYYYY

not quite. as someone said earlier, the "A" in factory is pronounced as a diphtong "AE"
so it comes out as "PPHEKTORY"! PPHEKTORY"!

It's like 'a' versus 'an.' If there's is a base to the character preceding (in other words, it ends in a consonant) you use ee (이) and if there isn't, you use 'ga' (가).

Daebak is 대박 and it means 'big hit.' It can be used to refer to pop songs as well as mines.

Actually, while we are on the topic, can someone explain why in a fluidly sounding Korean speech sometimes a commentator goes "KKKGHHHH" all of a sudden? Is that part of some word? It sounds completely out of place, as if he's expectorating.

This is a big conspiracy we've asked are co-teachers so many times and they claim they don't do it. So me and the other native teacher used to share a giggle each time one of them did it in front of us.

My name is the worst name you can possibly have (probabbly not true) in Korea, theres a short noise kind of like Greh that means like a real casual Yes. It sounds like Greg to me everytime I hear it.

The students normally struglle with Greg but they tend to go for adding a vow and call me Gegi, or Grega even sometimes Greguuu. They do it with lots of words like Englishie and finishie. I don't think the adding an u is done to make it sound honourific but I'll admit that most Korean words that do end like that are honorific so maybe theres a conection.

What about

Igunuun
or something like

Ibon hebori *Bisu's name*

Also:

Kurochooo
and after that statement is being made by the commentators and all of a sudden
all of them are
Neeeeee

"Igoneun" = "this" or "about this", or can be used as a question with the correct inflection, like, "what about this?".

I don't know the second one.

The last is, "of course", or "that's how it is", or "yes, I agree". It's an affirmation of something someone else said.

I see. Thanks.

Sorry, I'm wondering about the hanja, not the hangul. The first character is pretty obviously 大, but I can't think of anything with a reading that sounds like "bak" that would really be appropriate for the second one. 暴? 爆 (works for mines, at least, haha)? Then again, I guess it could be some kind of native Korean term that doesn't correspond directly to a Chinese character.

yeah "ah nee" is no. Add a 'yo' to the end of that and it becomes more formal.

neh = formal yes
eung (sounds like oong) = informal yes ( DON'T DO it to older Korean people you don't know personally)

Another interesting exception is choguling.

Hahaha look at my nickname :D

My observations on Korean phonetics:

1- Koreans are unable to pronounce Z properly. They pronounce it something like in between Dj- and Ch-
2- Koreans are also unable to pronounce some Rs. Not like r in Kurochooo but like R in Zerg and R in STARTALE or Starcraft. They say "Djaguu", "Statail" and "Staakreftuu" instead.
3- The "uu"s in the end of some words like "Plaguuu", "Tankuuu", "Dronuuu" and "Probuuu" are not exactly U. In Turkish (my native lango), there is a letter with a very close sound.
4- Koreans also pronounce TH- like S-. This means, Python turns into Paysan.
5- Also, you can rarely hear a proper F from Koreans. "Pettoriii", "Dipayloo" and "Puck" replaced Factory, Defiler and Fuck. This is also the reason why they say "hwaiting" instead of "fighting". Speaking of "Pettoriii", Koreans also can't pronounce CT. They pronounce it like TT. As seen in "Pettoriii".
6- Koreans tend to pronounce the words that end with UN, ON, UNG and ONG like OM NOM NOM. Not AM NAM NAM. This means, it is Song Byeong Goo, not Sang Byang Goo (Sayle, I'm so sorry).

Other than that, there is a dictionary-ish thread that can help with words.

EDIT:

1- "deh" means "vs". You can hear "Djaguu de Djaguu" or "Teran de Teran" from commentators.
2- "X-john" means vX. "Terran-john" means vT for example. "Djonn" would be more appropriate for native english speakers. For some moment, I thought Turkish pronunciation would lead to what I mean, but no.

Not exactly relevant to starcraft, but does anyone know the meaning behind the name "Tae Soon" or is that one of the names where you need to know the chinese translation?
