Casy vs July on Reverse Lost Temple Casy brilliantly fakes fast expansion by transferring scvs to the natural to gather minerals... without ever building a cc! July's overlord sees the scvs, thinks it's a fe build, prepares inadequate defenses to stop the 2 rax fast mmf attack and the game ends right there.

I deliberately tried to make the scope of this thread a bit narrower than other "best game" threads so that variations of taste would be less of an issue, and I think that the "What makes this game unusual" field goes a long way towards keeping it focused, but with so many people suggesting so many games, we could still run into problems like you mention. For example, a number of people have recommended Chrh vs. Bisu, but that's exactly the sort of game I personally don't consider unusual enough to watch again--super cool and exciting at the time because of the context (it was a massive upset) but not worth watching as a game, apart from that context. However, I don't want to make myself the arbiter of what's "unusual" and what's not, so here's what I'll say: if there's a game in the OP that you think is a disappointing watch for someone who comes to the thread hoping to find an "unusual" game, vote "No" on the poll that asks if it's worth watching. If a game gets a significant amount/percentage of "No" votes, I'll move it to a separate section of the OP, to cull the main list. I do hope to keep improving the OP (for instance there are getting to be so many games, that I think it's worth categorizing them: e.g. "base trades", "miniatures", "dongalisks", etc.) but it will take time. Bear with me! My eventual goal is to incorporate all useful posts from this thread into the OP, so even if it takes time, don't think your posts are wasted! (In the meanwhile there's the thread itself for people to read, so they're not wasted anyway, of course, but the OP naturally gets the most exposure, and everyone's input will make it in there if I can help it.) In my opinion, it's all right if people don't read the thread before posting--in fact, I actually like that, because if multiple people recommend the same game, that's often a good reason to watch it. As I said above, I would like to eventually include all of your input, including second and third opinions, so please don't stop leaving it!Show nested quote + On March 02 2011 14:41 SilverJohnny wrote: oh god I don't remember who it was against, but there was a game from a while back where RainbOw MC'd an scv and built up a huge vult/tank force in addition to his normal army, that was pretty damn silly. Garbanzo even added the link to the TLPD page, which I'd only started doing towards the end, thanks for noticing that, garbanzo!Hmm...I'll search for this if nobody can come up with it off the top of their head, but there was one PvP on Heartbreak Ridge that ended up being a base trade. Lots of earlier "best game" threads are worth looking at as well (only problem being that they tend not to have much description of the game, so one usually has to actually watch [or have watched] them to see if they qualify as unusual). Heck, even I have games I remember that I plan to post here (e.g. Kwanro vs Calm and Jaedong vs Calm, a pair of 5-pool vs. Calm-12-hatch MSL games with very different outcomes). It just takes time...Oh my god, thank you so much for this thread! I will see if I can add anything to that. + Show Spoiler + Rainbow should have BC rushed! This reminds me why I love Brood War... It is not dead yet! Also, SCLegacy have done Pimpest Plays of every year since 2002 I think. + Show Spoiler + http://sclegacy.com/feature/4-pphttp://sclegacy.com/feature/4-pp Worthwhile checking out. Unfortunately, I find myself unable to find Korean casted VODS of stuff like Reach's Lockdown, Boxer's Paratrooper rush and so on... CholeraSC has done English casts of these games, but I think it in TL it is frowned upon to recommend English BW casters... As for the question about English casters, well it's true that TLers tend to prefer the Korean versions. On March 02 2011 19:00 Tru_m4n wrote: People usually follow the same path, I believe: if they're relatively new to high-level BW (whether as a player or a spectator), then they like English casters because they help explain what's going on at a basic level. Meanwhile (even for skilled BW players) if they're new to watching VODs of games and don't speak Korean/Chinese/whatever, then constant screaming in a foreign language is annoying and distracting. As they get used to watching VODs, this reverses: on the one hand, once somebody knows something about the game, the usually-shallow and frequently-mistaken commentary of most English casters starts to annoy them, whereas on the other hand, they learn to tune out the foreign commentary and even to hear it as a soothing, familiar part of the background. I guess like anything else, it's what you're used to. (Not a few people even like Korean commentary but hate when it's overdubbed with Chinese--even though they don't speak either language!)Is there any way the Bisu vs Jaedong game (#18 in the list) can be watched with korean casters instead of english? Been trying to find it on youtube but either I just suck at searching, or there is no such video. For this thread, since most TLers do prefer Korean (also those VODs are often better-quality), I prefer linking Korean VODs, but that's just a plus--if you can't find a Korean VOD to link to, link to an English one, absolutely! Actually, after getting this and similar feedback, I think I'm going to put links to both Korean and English versions, where possible, on my long-term to-do list for the OP. One more point--there are some quality English casters out there, whom I think many people do enjoy listening to. Basically, to be a good commentator, you need to be articulate, it helps to be funny, and it's essential to have a good knowledge of the game--the deeper the better. It's that last quality that many commentators lack, but the ones who have it are great to listen to. Day[9] is the name that will come to nearly everybody's mind, of course--and he is wonderful (although I don't find his silliness as hysterical as lots of other people listen to), and I like Artosis even better (his one flaw being that he tends to overhype players that he knows personally). Lots of people like Tasteless; I see him as a fantastic play-by-play guy, but only a middling commentator (teaming him with Artosis was a great move on the part of GOMTV). Of the YouTube commentators, most of them are not worth mentioning (although if only Diggity had a deeper knowledge of the game!--he has the best casting voice I've ever heard in my life, not excluding professional TV/radio broadcasters) (and NukeTheStars is wasted as a caster, he has real [as in amazing] talent in other areas, like video editing, and music) but you happen to have mentioned the one who imo is the best: CholeraSC is the only English BW caster on YouTube whom I enjoy listening to. His knowledge of the game is not as deep as that of, say, Day[9] or Artosis (both of whom played competitive BW on the highest of foreigner levels), so the really hard-core players at TL tend to eschew him too, but it's still pretty good, and imo plenty good enough for the average guy (like me) who knows more about the game from spectating than from playing it. Definitely, if you're linking an English VOD from YouTube, a Cholera VOD is better by far than the alternatives. Wow, this post alone took me like an hour to write... I guess you can see why the OP doesn't instantly reflect everyone's feedback, although I read it all and value absolutely all of it. For now, maybe I'll just paste some of this post into the OP--some of it is relevant in general.

Please don't view it as if a post in the thread is not "official" until it gets to the OP.
