Imagine FPS game - if you use high sens, you can turn around quickly but you cant precisely aim at small target. If you use low sens, doing 180 degrees turn is next to impossible. But if you use accel... small/slow mouse movements will result in small precise pointer movements. Faster mouse movement result in fast turns. So you can BOTH precisely aim and make insane 360-degrees rotations. It's like floating point number versus fixed point number - using fixed point, you can set fixed exponent for desired number magnitude; using floating-point you can change exponent dynamically. Prove me wrong. | ||

In FPS, I agree, acceleration is good, but in Starcraft precision is very meaningful, so acceleration sucks ass... Edit: grammar... | ||

It takes a lot of time to get used to and you should take into consideration - with acceleration a small mistake might result in a big one. Besides the cursor moves fast enough to take it across the screen in milliseconds. And if you want that AND very slow movement when necessary to be precise - it won't help that much. Slower movement won't help you to be more accurate/micro better. | ||

I am used to it... and it feels somehow 'right'. Besides, I never had problems with my mouse precision, I miss 'u' and 'o' hotkeys much more often than I miss something with mouse. | ||

With medium mouse speed and without acceleration you can easly and fast click/select all units (in move too). IMO acceleration is good only with old mouse, when maximum speed in drivers is too slow. | ||

i used to, but it is a lot more accurate to have no acceleration especially when you will be playing competition games on other computers because the settings change mildly so it makes it easier to adjust PM from legion accel sux no pro use it(they use mouse pads) | ||

there is something called refresh frequency and u can setting like to 50/60/70/80 and so on to 200... default is 100, who can help me to understand what the hell is this ?^^ | ||

In CS, you use low sensitivity (in the game, default in windows) to get high precision at far distances, and also so that no matter how fast you move the mouse the pointer still travels the same distance thus enabling you to be very accurate at 30 deegree angle fastshots towards the opponents head. In game terms that means I can only turn about 90 degrees to each side or just about turn around and shoot someone coming from behind, it's a bit of a tradeoff situation but more beneficial in the long run. Mouse acceleration is no good for those situations, but there is one guy in my clan who actually uses it, but that's because he plays with sniperrifle a lot and thus can make extremely fast so-called dragshots where he simply flicks his wrists and nails the opponent as soon as he enters the scope. Also he can look around more freely while in scopemode. For rifles though it sucks and most FPS. Back when I had win98 on my system I used low acc though for BW and really liked it, but now XP is different in XP so I don't use it anymore. Oh, also statistically about 99% of all elit players in CS don't use mouse acceleration. | ||

that being said, i think it could be useful to have the "jerk" type movement move farther than normal while having all other movements a static speed that is lower. normal accel just doesnt do this. you move TOO slow while making small movements and TOO FAR when you jerk. u can never get both of them within acceptable range. but perhaps using the "improved mouse precision" variables u could get a more desirable effect. i havernt really experimented or found any doccumentation on them and apparently am too lazy to even tell u guys which reg keys they are. oh well....... i contributed whateva | ||

I think its mostly just a problem of getting used to a particular setting. Once you take the time to get used to something it doesnt really matter. The only fps I play these days is Medal Of Honor, and i normally play in a sniper role, so precision counts, and I dont seem to have too much problems with that. Even in graphics apps like photoshop I dont mind the high sensitivity/high accel. | ||

i always used acceleration and couldn't play without it, at least not with normal settings as the mousecursor is too god damn slow then. acceleration may set you back a tiny bit on precision but it's no disaster :\ acceleration for president. it really rocks. | ||

The only big disadvantage to using accel is that it's quite a bit different from XP to Vista, so if you use XP at home and go to a LAN with Vista (or vica versa), you might not be able to get used to the change and will cry. | ||

But like a year ago or so, I found out that there's an implented mouse-acceleration in windows and downloaded a "mouse-fix" to turn it off. The mouse movement is a lot smoother after that, and the clicks a lot more accurate. | ||
