I am in a house with 1 internet signal which we split 4 ways through a router.

Whenever we try to play on Bnet we can't join each other's games due to latency errors.

We can use LAN, but do any of you know what the problem is when we try to play on Bnet with each other?

There is no solution to this problem, sorry.

The problem is something to do with port recognition. The signal is sent to one port for all starcraft and it gets relayed etc etc. you should ask a techie and he'll tell you exactly whats going on, basically you can get around it in warcraft3 by setting different ports to send your UDP packets or something, but i'm with excal, i dont think you can do anything about it.

Yep, nothing you can do about it for SC afaik. My understanding is that the incoming data doesn't know where to go, and basically treats all you guys as just 1 connection.

It can be corrected unless your router is crap. Call tech support for your router, they will tell you the correct settings.

Well what people usually forget is that Starcraft is really old, and at the time of release, nobody was using routers or anything like that. It was just dial-up modems =] They could probably add that functionality in a patch I guess.

Wrong, there IS a solution.

on any client machine (ie not the router/server) go to start->run->regedit and find this key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Battle.net\Configuration]
and in there make a new DWORD key, name it "Game Data Port" and its value should be in decimal 6112 or 6113 and so on, a different value for each machine, then you have to set up the router to make those ports work on those IPs

I've had my friend try this method before but it didn't work. Your mileage may vary I guess.

sorry you are just plain wrong
if you WOULD just show some interest in the problem, you would be able to solve it, because its really basic.

thats the way.
you can still do it without changing the port.
just forward (forward != open .. look in your manual) 6112 to the ip of the pc opening the games on bnet and you will be completely fine.
if u want to host on the 2nd pc, you can either adapt the forwarding each time, or give the 2nd pc the port 6120 (registry, as describd above) for example and forward this port to the ip of the 2nd pc

then your friend obviously have done something wrong.
i set up war3 and broodwar for at least 4 different households and helped one on the phone and it worked perfect for them after that ...

I've tried that method too and it didn't work. We were able to join each others' games but the lag was unbearable once the game began.

hi every1

I have a similar problem: I am living in a dormitory and the system administrator simply wont open(forward) those ports for me. I tried changing the port in the registry but i dont know which ports i can use apart from 6112-6119 (which are filtered in my network). could u please tell me if i could use some other ports instead.

thanks

try 80
but thats the http port, so it may come complicated when having an open browser in the background
but anyway, it wont help you much. you still wont be able to host games.

I have 3 computers on my single internetconnection using a switcher, works great... might wanna get that instead? :D

I think they are right about it treating you as one connection. Spam blizz to get a patch for it.. can't be that hard...

see ...
-) for joining, you need the port 6112 OPEN
-) for hosting, you need the port 6112 FORWARDED to your lan ip ... if your sys admin wont do that, then there is no way for hosting games, sry

sry, but blizz cant do anything about it .. the problem is solely client sided.
