Well, here's a list of best unit death animations in my opinion. - Dragoon: THE BEST. I have always intrigued by the blue goo death animation ever since the first day of playing SC. - Hydralisk: Cool. A Hydralisk when killed looks like a pile of pork, especially when 10+ of them die under storm. And the sound they make (aaaaarrrr). - Ultralisk: Exploded cows with their rib bones visible. (A honorable mention: The Ursadon neutral critter, whose death looks like a pig getting exploded.) - High Templar: yoooooooww sound and blue traces of hallucination.
Not very good death animations: - Mech units + Firebat: Bland, meh. And why does the Firebat explode but not run around incinerated? - Air units except Zerg's: I know the graphics at that time were not good enough to support the "capital ships exploding and their humongous bodies inevitable descending from the sky like fallen titans" animation, but still bland. Zergs are still cool since they explode in a pile of blood.
Dragoons and hydralisks because of the sounds they make, along with their pretty nice animations. Owning those units with siege tanks just feels so satisfying.
The worst is definitely archons/dark archons, especially DA. It looks like a generic death explosion from a crappy game maker program, and no unique death sound either.
what?!? Noone has mentioned the marine?? The sound of the marine dieing was probably a major drawing point of this game for me. In fact, I was so obsessed with the marine's dying animation I would constantly doodle that star-shaped blood trail with the dot in the middle in my notebooks during school, as well as actually physically make that design with some clay in my ceramics class!
Vessels are one of my favourite, but I think I like the sound more than the death animation. I'd have to go with watching Carriers explode, the initial explosion is nice and the interceptors blowing up afterwards is the icing on the cake. I also like watching a bunch a lurkers die after they have been irradiated around the same time.
Oh yeah, and Overlords, bunching them up with my sairs and watching them explode is nice.
I would make a custom game and play micro with my control group of wraiths killing as much of my own vessels and wraithes as they come out
the sound feels satisfying for some reason especially when u hear the rushing sound of the missiles traveling to the target and when they die they make that beeeaammmmmmmfff and doooooooommmmmmfffffff
Zealots/DTs. There's sometime about fading into blue smoke that seems like a noble way to die.
Seeing pools of zergling blood is incredibly satisfying, but in a totally different manner. They bleed the most (and are the smallest unit), they come in massive numbers, and that screeching death sound they make that makes you go "nothing like the smell of toasted zergling in the morning."
SCVS OMG When you 2 hatch lurker drop and he sends all his scvs to one patch at his nat, you have a lurker waiting there and it gets 30 scv kills in 2 spines its possibly the greatest feeling ever Actually i'd say any peon dying is awesome, especially something like lurker spines catching scvs or probes, or mines killing 20 probes, or scarabs killing 10 drones, or a dt going rampent in a zerg main fuck i love it
Dragoons. Both the animation and the sound are memorable. In fact, everything about Dragoon design is awesome (it's shooting animation especially) in comparison to Stalkers, who feel cheesy and too-anime. How can they degrade themselves like that and instead of building upon their special original style they escape into stereotypes.
medic death sound vessel death sound (most satisfying thing ever) carrier (especially like when the interceptors all blow up a second later) wraith death sound always makes me feel bad for the wraith (comes with being a leta fan I guess) hydra death animation could not be better
Also has anyone ever watched a civillian die really closely? It's litterally the same animation as a marine dieing. Like, it turns into a marine to die, talk about lazy Blizzard...

You forgotttttteedd vessel. They are best because of the sound. After 8 get plagued and a muta comes in, the best lol.

Actually, the archon has an own death sound as well, however the sound file is unused. But if you extract the sounds with BWSoundUtility, you can play it. (file name: parDth00)
Anyways, my favourite death animation is when you explode a critter by clicking many times on it. (alas, it works only in single player...)
I also enjoy the medic death animation. For some reason, being exploded into several different pieces of gore along with a pretty satisfying sound effect makes killing medics all the more satisfying.

Wow, I never knew that. I listened to the file and it actually sounds pretty cool.
I love the dark Archon one as it looks like it has better graphics than any of the others so it seems out of place, probably because you rarely see it.
And as a protoss player I love the look and sound of lurkers dying. mmmm! so awesome.
Love medics dying, yes the sound is a major part of that. Other than, the most "satisfying" would be storming 20+ hydras in a battle and then having my army march through the pile of bones and blood and whatever is left. I play protoss.
I definitely think seeing a line of Terran Bio just running through a line of Lurker spikes is one of the coolest death animations because it makes sense as they just scream in pain and are split into limbs.
probes/SCVs when hit by a scarab. It looks sooo cool and gratifying. Medics fall apart like bloody legos, thats funny and when archons or HTs kill a million little zerglings

For me, any large quantity of zerg units clumped together exploding under a storm makes me feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside.
Tanks and Hydralisks are both incredibly satisfying. Tanks because it's like a massive "fuck you" to the Terran player by taking out his really powerful units (especially if you minedrag to his Tank clumps) and Hydralisks because they explode oh so nicely when you Psi Storm them.

Someone had to say it. I mean come on her scream is priceless and she pops like a kernel of popcorn.
For any terran player it has to be hydras and dragoons. Who doesn't love the sight of several control groups of units just getting annihilated by a unit they can't touch :p
As T v Z: lurkers popping, zerglings coming to an MM slaughter, and ultras dying As Z v T: Vessels blowing up, MM dying to lurker spines, and scvs exploding to one hit muta fire As P v T: Tanks blowing up, especially when friendly fired from zealot bombs, and scvs getting sizzled by psi storm As T v P: Goons melting from spider mines or tank fire (obv), reavers exploding, carriers exploding, and dts getting wisped away As P v Z: drones frying under storm, ovies popping, mutas melting to corsair fire, lurkers popping As Z v P: high templars sighing their lives away, reavers blowing up, shuttles getting scourged, corsairs ceasing to exist in a dull, resonant thud.
The most satisfying death animations for me are the HT and Drone. It's so fun going 2 port and sniping drones And its always confused me as to why they just explode :3
