Revolutionary: A person with radical ideas, often at the center of a revolution.
eg: Che Guevara

Revolutionist: A person who aligns himself in support of a revolution
eg: Members of the Boston Tea Party

The words are almost interchangable, but there is a slight difference.

In general, a revolutionary is the person behind a revolution, and a revolutionist is a member of a party or a movement.

For TLnet's purposes, it is my humble opinion that Bisu should be the revolutionary, unless we want to explicitly avoid adjective/noun confusion within the context of the sentence (revolutionary is adj/noun, revolutionist is noun only).

I'm a little confused because even if I search dictionaries, revolutionary (noun) is defined oftentimes as revolutionist. Is it worth changing to revolutionary instead of revolutionist when the perceived meaning is nearly identical?

I thought Koreans started using the term 'Revolutionist' and not us?

I agree with HonestTea...but I mean...if you really wanted to squirm around it, you could pull it off. Bisu didn't invent the Bisu build, after all. The forge expand was already around, and Daezang had played with the full build itself already in televised games (albeit less successfully)...

But that's stretching it a bit.

I think it's more the adjective that has the connotations you want. The noun is defined by the dictionary as
"1. A militant in the struggle for revolution.
"2. A supporter of revolutionary principles."

I'm pretty sure its like that in the dictionary because a revolutionary is a revolutionist. The revolutionary is the person leading the revolution so he is still involved with the revolution and thus a revolutionist as well. It's kind of like squares and rectangles.

yeah, except that dictionaries don't define squares as rectangles. Face it, the dictionaries are not supporting HonestTea's distinction.

Interesting point - I agree with you in the sense that "The Revolutionary" would have been a more fitting nickname, but if indeed it was Korean fans who gave him "The Revolutionist" as a nickname, then the mixup is unsurprising / less significant. Most Korean fans will probably never notice and he's had the nickname for a while now so I don't think we can do anything about the fact that they call him Revolutionist over there - the most we can probably do is to keep this in mind for future translations, which I definitely will.

I think Revolutionist is better
On the grounds that there have been many revolutions in starcraft and there have been many revolutionaries. Of such group, Bisu has been singled out as "The Revolutionist" for staging the greatest revolution of the group.

HonestTea's point, though, was that one who stages a revolution is not a revolutionist, but a revolutionary.

1. Dictionary says Revolutionary = Revolutionist

Dictionaries don't always include the connotations of a word. But the fact is that a Revolutionary can refer to one who leads a revolution, OR a supporter. Revolutionist only means a supporter or party member. The percieved meaning is not identical.

Revolutionary:Revolutionist = Party Leader : Party Member

2. Korean fans say Revolutionist.

Korea's fans did not call Bisu the Revolutionist first. They called him the 혁명가 first. Then someone with a poor grasp of English (or a faulty Kor-Eng dictionary) mistranslated 혁명가 as Revolutionist, when it should have been the Revolutionary.

And whatever the Korean fans say, whatever comes first, whatever sounds better... doesn't matter when it's incorrect.

3. "The Revolutionist" is singling out the greatest revolutionary.

This is incorrect English. "revolutionist" is not singular for "revolutionary." In fact, the word "revolutionary" has more meaning as the single leader of the group. "revolutionist" means a member of a larger group.

4. Why do you care? You said yourself that the words are almost interchangable.

Well, yes, but there's an important distinction between the two.

In the Cuban Revolution,
Che Guevara is a revolutionary
Any asshole with a red scarf can be a revolutionist.

Korea calls Bisu the 혁명가 because he was the one who brought the revolution, the one who unleashed a build and PvZ style that really changed the game. Therefor it is fitting that we use the correct word - the way omninmo uses it.

"bisu is the revolutionary and people like jangbi, best are his revolutionists"
