(it just goes on and on, you can always find the next episode in the links on the bottom right)
So there was already a thread about episodes 1-12 of the Hip Hopera Trapped in the Closet. R Kelly released 13-22 like um 2 years ago and this summer it's the next 10 chapters .
As a music major I just have nothing but praise for this shit. Fuck me it's excellent! I mean I love Beethoven, Stravinsky, The Beach Boys, Megadeth...you name it. And I have to put this utterly random comedy-drama up with the great works in music probably because of how incredibly gripping it is. I mean, it's an absolute drama fest. It's hyper drama, almost ghetto drama lol.
Constant twists and turns. It's so great because it literally steps miles over the line...but always remains very observant of human feelings. It's a very human work. Even if the language is well, not necessarily artistic language...it's perfectly fine as a work. Perfectly valid. And of course by the way R Kelly's singing is fucking great, and as a song, this song is just unbelievably well made...being only a 2 chord vamp for over like 90 minutes. 2 chords for 90 minutes...and as a musician I was still completely rapt the whole time. Very good technical use of tension.
It's so surprising because I thought all R Kelly was good for was inviting ladies of questionable age into his after-after-post-after hotel party after-lobby 3 am party room. But this is some good shit!
Wonder if anyone hasn't seen it, check it out! It's a great, over-the-top but sympathetic story. Good shit man!
Ps Youtube completely fucks up my attempts to write essays fuck it ¬¬.

I watched parts 1-12, and all i can say is that it is the most pathetic example of song writing i have ever had the distate of listening to.
This appeals to the lowest of the low in terms of musical taste.
Look, mate, I love EVERYTHING...and there's no way anyone HAS to like this...but if you wrote music yourself...you would acknowledge that this is very well written. I don't know what your music tastes are, but I KNOW that what I consider 'excellent' would include at least 1 band that you also love, seeing as I love EVERYTHING from Radiohead to Rachmaninoff to Rage Against the Machine. All I'm saying is you don't have to be so derogatory just because you disagree aesthetically.
Ps anyone who says anything like 'lowest of the low' when talking about hip hop is just...well all I can do is facepalm...yjdk.
I do write music, and this is just garbage, im amazed that someone can praise this. You don't praise a dog for shitting in the house, and you don't praise R.Kelly for crapping in your ears.
PS. kefkalives you're just ignorant and young. That's not to say I'm not also young and ignorant, but in music I would probably say I'm less ignorant than you. You might write a little music on the side, but you don't know shit about the technicalities of creating tension if you think R Kelly's Trapped in the Closet is badly written. Gime an example of a band you like...
right now my favourite album is Lou Reed's Berlin. I have never listened to such an emotionally charged album. Have you listened to it? That is an album i consider to have quality writing. Care to comment, or give your opinion on the album?
My top 10 Artists on last.fm, in descending order;
1. Leo Kottke 2. Deathcab for Cutie 3. Defiance, Ohio 4. Lou Reed 5. Daft Punk 6. The Velvet Underground 7. System of a Down 8. Nine Inch Nails 9. Alice Cooper 10. Neil Young
Ofcourse though, your some musical savant who appreciates all music and has an indepth understanding of the creative process a musician goes through. You are truly unique!

right
I have to admit the only artists I know well out of your list are 5, 7 and 9. And look you don't have to be so damn sarcy. I know that I have liked Death cab, Lou Reed, Velvet Underground, Neil Young. I think Nine Inch Nails are total shite aesthetically but very accomplished songwriters. I would probably rate Daft Punk and soad around 7/10 as far as comparing them to all artists ever, and the rest of your bands 6 or less. But as songwriters, I would put all of them up around 8 and above. Can't say I've ever heard of Defiance of Leo Kottke before though.
Not particularly surprised you don't aesthetically like R Kelly. All I can say is that you just aren't trying hard enough to appreciate the songwriting of R Kelly's Trapped in the Closet. So do you like Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd or The Rolling Stones?
