http://www.worldofgothic.com/dl/?go=dlfile&fileid=57 ~230mb, use original controls they are good when you get used to them, fighting is timed based so don't spam attack and you will be fine, only changes: bind z/x to strafe. Mount & Blade, while game lacks in context it s worth to check just for a fight system, there is also a demo. The Witcher -new crpg.

Planescape has the weirdest universe in all Rpgs and is really dialog oriented. FPS-RPG hybrid: Deus Ex 1: Killer game. The only thing bad about this game is the graphics ( and for me it isn't a problem ). Everything else is just so good. Level design, scenario, music, characters. Even 8 years later very few games are as good. Turn based game: Civilisation 2-3 ( 4 is ok too but it isn't my fav ). FPS: Ut99 for life <3. I would play just for the music ![]() edit: <3<3<3 + Show Spoiler + If you are a geek + hardcore gamer try dwar fortress ( deepest RTS/gestion game ever made ). Even if it has the worst graphics on this lists ( ASCII lol ) you will need a good comp to run without lag. Also you can always try to dl a graphic pack if you really hate ASCII. + it is free :p You can get easily all this games. They are all cheap and easy to find. ( except maybe Torment but you can torrent it anyway i don't think it really matter because Black Isle is dead ![]() OMG you stole every game I was going to recommend. All I have to add is: Civilization 2 > Civilization 4 > Civilization 3 Edit: I think its funny that almost all the games that have been recommended don't need anything close to modern hardware to play.

Just dont go near its sequel. Id reccommend the Civ games. Play Civ 4 if your newish to the game. Theres debate over which is best, but they are all really good and Civ 4 wont dissapoint. Lots of strategy and learning to be had with that one.

Devil May Cry 3 - Action RPG Dead Space - FPS/RPG Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare - Most amazing single player campaign of any FPS I've ever played. Far Cry 2 Gears of War and Bioshock are quite good too even though they're a bit 'old'.

I thought 3 introduced a lot of good concepts, but they seemed to be really unpolished. Special resources were a good idea, but there were too many of them, so they got cumbersome by the end of the game. A lot of victory conditions were kind of screwy too. Its really stupid if you have to intentionally retard the culture of your cities if you want a late-game victory thats not a culture victory (almost every time I wanted to try space victory, I got culture first on accident because spreading culture was way too easy). Then again, Civ 4 has its crazy balance issues. Chop rushing > all before Prince, and Incans > all after Prince. Still, I'd say in spite of all that, there's one reason why I'd say Civ 4 is better: more and more developed MODS. If you think Civ 3 > Civ 4, you clearly haven't played enough Civ 4 mods. ![]()

Civ 4 is way too imbalanced compared to 2 and 3. That was my major issue, as well as the dumbing down of resource management. Also I got the sense that AI difficulty was kind of capped, Civ 2/3 AI always seemed stronger to me, but that is just imo.

I agree with your assessment of balance issues, though, IMO that doesn't make a game (particularly given that its entirely irrelevant to mods). I'm curious what you mean about dumbing down resource management. Civ 2 definitely has the most simplified resource management scheme of all of them. Civ 4 is less complex than Civ 3, but at the same time I feel the system is more polished. In regards to the AI, did you play vanilla or with Beyond the Sword? Because Beyond the Sword gives the AI a pretty substantial update (I think its also available as an add-in to vanilla Civ 4).
