Hi Peanut,
Looking through your blog I notice several similarities between your writing style and someone else I once knew on these forums. Let's see if we can glean anything just from your blog title.

The difference between a pro and a regular is whether or not you play poker professionally.
Err, I don't know how else to explain it.

I think the question you are asking in your post and the question posed in the title of the thread are quite different.
In any case, you'll probably find more of a definite answer at LP.net

Dedication, Intelligence, and Patience. Downswings are unavoidable if you can't stomach losing for a week (or weeks, or months maybe even) straight you won't make it. Tons of studying. And Prolly atleast above average intelligence. Short term means nothing at all. Meh, I'm sure there are plenty that know better than myself. Perhaps check out liquidpoker if you haven't already.

definition of professional usually means doing it for a living. i'm guessing that in this case, "professional" means someone who is very good, not a novice, like the pro in 3v3 bgh pros only
for poker, i would have to say that a "pro" is someone who makes more than he/she loses, and can play against other experienced players and still win. you can make more than you lose playing against novices, but that doesnt mean youre a pro.

Well i have also started playing poker online, i have played playmoney (waiting for visa) and i turned 1000 into 70000 pretty fast, but play-money poker is nothing like real poker (medium stakes) so i cant really help you. i think its similar to starcraft, mass gaming and patience will make you really good. also, there are books and articles with pro advice so i would check those out too. you should make an account at LP, i did, and its interesting what some people have to say, even though i cant barely understand it since im still a noob. the best way to learn is to play really safe and slowly play more aggressive as you move up the stakes, so you don't lose your bankroll during your main learning curve, that's what i have heard atleast.

First become a pro in SC, retire, and then join the ranks of elky, rekrul, etc.

To be a pro at poker, you need the skill to recognize what type of players you're playing against and know which strategies best exploit their styles. Along the same lines, you need to vary your play at the right times to induce major mistakes from your opponents. Learning how to do this requires hundreds of thousands of hands and plenty of evaluation of your own play.

Patience, patience, patience, Adamantium nerves, Scrooge McDuck-like money management. If you are a starcraft player you get +10% chances of flopping a set.
