EDIT: totally agree with the underestimate time/effort spending to do favors. It just sucks. But the worst thing is when you don't get appreciated enough for your work... I felt so dumb sometimes.

This, a thousand times over. It especially pissed me off in high school. One possible solution is to attempt to explain to the person that the favor they want is actually a really big deal. It won't always work, but perhaps sometimes.

Person 1: Hey yubee. I was hoping you could do me a favor... I need an intro video sorta like the TSL one except about three times as long. That isn't too hard for you right? ^_^

Yubee: Do you have any idea how long that will take me? (Feel free to exaggerate). I can't afford to spend an entire day on a new video.

Person 1: Oh yeah I guess. Sorry.

I see your point about doing favours, but at the same time, I think you should realize that if you agree to do something for someone and they make it clear to you that's it's important, you better follow through.

If I ask something of someone and I explain that I really need this or it will fuck over something else, I think I have the right to be mad if they agree and then just bump it down on their priority list because they don't think they owe me anything. If you weren't 100% sure you could do it, then just say so, don't say yes and then jerk me around later when you decided not to do it.

So, I see your point, but I think your argument is flawed.

Here's what usually happens for me.

"Can you do me a favour?"

"That depends... What do you want?"

A: "blah blah blah huge waste of time/inconsiderate request/I'll never see you again after I help you"

"I'd rather not." or "Sorry, I'm busy (masturbating), at the time when you want me to do whatever huge waste of time it is you want me to do"

B: "Favour that's really more of an excuse to hang out (could you go here with me, could you come over and help me with this blah blah blah"

"sure"

C: "Favour that's completely minuscule like "could you hold the door open for me" or "could I borrow your pen?"

"NO FUCK YOU YOU BITCH! I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR YOUR SHIT, I HAVE TOO MANY OF MY OWN PROBLEMS TO WORRY ABOUT! HOW DARE YOU EVEN TALK TO ME LIKE THAT! MY GRANDPA JUST DIED, I DONT NEED THIS! FUCK OFF, YOU ASSHOLE!"

Don't do favours for people who don't have a natural inclination to reciprocate. This should just be instinct.
