Im doing this chemistry lab and i have two questions i dont understand:
1. When a solid such as NaOH dissolves in water, heat is either created or absorbed, and can be calculated using the formula q = mc(delta)T. My question is, is the mass used in the calculation JUST the mass of the water? or the mass of the solid? or the total mass of both?
2. In another scenario, lets say i mix hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide solutions together, and calculate heat change using q= mc (delta)T, does the mass include the mass of the hydrochloric acid? or the mass of the sodium hydroxide? or both??
Thanks =)
