This blog is dedicated to our new IB business teacher Mr.Downey for his geniusness that will enable us to get 7s at HL Business and Management.
School started two weeks ago, and all of our teachers from last year were the same... except for our business teacher which left for a better offer at another school. So we were stuck wondering who the hell is going to teacher us IB business this year? We entered the room and woah!! Mr.Doweny was on the other side of the door!! I know you guys might be wondering who the hell is this teacher? Let me tell you all about Mr.Downey.
In 10th grade, I had Mr.Downey as my economics teacher for that year. He was one of those teachers that students seriously cant mess with. He just owns anyone that messes with him or tries to do something funny. My class happened to be the class that he hated the most, although he favored some of the people in class including me. The class was more like a jungle since people were screaming and shouting all the time. Now Mr.Downey didnt scream, nor did he get upset but rather the temperature at summer time was about 45 Celsius!! So he closed the air conditioner and that made everyone stfu xD! He wont switch it back on until 30 minutes of silence. If they guys continued talking he wont even open it for the whole period and send us (his good students) to the library for some "research" if u knw what I mean. Now thats only one out of millions of shit Mr.Downey does. The other interesting thing is that he classifies any problems into two category: Mr.Downey's problems and "other" problems LOL! So if he isnt affected by it, he dosent care xDxD!
Now I dont know whether having Mr.Downey again this year is a good thing. He is a great teacher and whatnot but definitely didn't teach IB before. I hope he finishes the syllabus with us properly!! *crosses fingers*

Hahaha I really do hope Mr. Downey covers the course with us. I wouldnt want to fail at my major T_T.
Back in 10th grade our class was actually his favorite XD Probably since we were the only economics class with seniors, juniors and sophomores mixed together lol
Kinda harsh turning off the air conditioner in that weather though...

Loool he'd get fired so fast doing that in Sweden.
Collective punishment is just as bad as physical abuse on the political correctness scale in Sweden.
In some situations it's nice to have that protection as a student, but all teachers are pussies because of it and that seriously sucks...

- There is the type who actually follow the rules but bend a few that they feel are unnecessary such as Mr. Downey here.
- There are the teachers who try to follow the rules but are too "nice" and are unable to control the students. These teachers sometimes manage to get the class to shut up.
- There are teachers who strictly follow the rules and can get scary when angry.
- There are teachers who are actually afraid of the students and/or dont care about his/her job and allow them to run amok. These are the same teachers that give away grades for free...
- There are teachers who are strict on rules but are not very good with discipline but manage to keep the class quiet due to boredom. I've had a couple of teachers like these. Teachers that would be easy for a student to overthrow, but are so boring that the students are to bored to even speak.
As for physical abuse, our school had only one case that i can recall which took place last year when a gym teacher beat up a delinquent while another gym teacher was on the lookout for any passerbys. Both got fired

He's a good teacher because he can't keep control of the class? Or needs 30 fucking minutes to do so. You haven't even said a thing about how he is teaching the class anything. Sounds like your typical high school crap.

Since you can leave education at 16 here, most of the students at 6th form (last 2 years of high school) are those who at least care about their grades slightly. So the only punishment needed is: "Get out, I'm not teaching you."
Secondary school was pretty awful though, the best teachers were simply the ones who could shout the loudest.

Yeah well Mr.Downey's way of teaching is somewhat unique. What he does is use the book and explain each chapter in details by relating it to real life situations and making it as personal as it can be. He always adds humor into it and by the time you finish the chapter, if you payed attention in class you will be able to fully understand and do they tests he give you. His tests mostly make you think and analyze data to find your answers. The are not so straight forward and have loadz of twists to trick you here and there. I actually really enjoy his classes.

Im jealous.
I wish we had IB economy//business @ our highschool.
We were stuck with the mundane crap like math/chem/english/languages/etc
But then again I'm not jealous b/c of all the gay requirements there most likely will be for a class like business especially within the IB school of thought of extending learning beyond the books.
