How much of this is simply the macro-oriented maps/playstyles, making for less obviously "HOLY SHIT" moments? I mean sure, there are still amazing plays that occur, moments of "WOW HOLY SHIT THAT MICRO, THAT MULTITASK", but the general play seems less interesting than it was in 2006/2007, and it's not just that I may know what is to come. It's more of plain boring games.
About those gems that do appear. They are rather few and scattered about, if you consider the mass of games that occur. Perhaps one of the problems is that the market is saturated (or maybe slightly oversaturated). There's just so many events going on that there is no way one can hope to watch them all, or even have that much interest in their result. It's like if the NBA had a 3 1v1 leagues and then the normal team league too, all going on at once.
From that latter point, it seems that the mass of leagues is also the reason we will most likely never see a bonjwa again. Once someone becomes a bonjwa, or is at the top and preparing to solidy their control, their skill immediately puts them into every league at once, and then they cannot hope to practice for all their matches. Take Flash for example. He was RAPING, but it was clear that he was getting worn out from overuse, and started recycling the same strat over and over, until it caused his dominance to fade.
Maybe there should be less leagues. Imagine if the OSL were the new NBA, and each match to go to the next round were BO5 or BO7, even at the early stages. Sure, each individual match would last longer, but then there is less chance of random bullshit screwing over someone who definitely has a better chance of winning the whole thing, and in addition, the players will have plenty of time to prepare. Of course this then begs the question of wtf happens to the players who lose early on, and have no other leagues to occupy themselves with. But perhaps they can occupy themselves with preparation for OSC, to get them back into the next OSL. I wonder how the level and entertainment of play would fare if players had this massively sufficient time to prepare, with only one goal in their sights, with no worries about team duties and other leagues.
Or I could be spewing a lot of random bs because it is 4 in the morning. Damn, I have 9 am class. Maybe I will continue this rant later -___--;;
