After checking in (16 dollars per person) it began with a round of 32 teams. The 16 teams with the highest handicapped total wood after three games would advance, in a seeded fashion. I bowled 215, 198, 199 for a 612 scratch or 726 handicapped. My friend bowled 212, 226, 208 for a 646 scratch or 718 handicapped. Our third put up three consecutive blind scores of 176 for a handicapped total of 660. Thus our team's total wood was 2104.
After everyone finished, lunch was served while the scores were tabulated. It featured a couple of 3 foot subs, pasta parmigiana, spanish rice, rolls with bread, side salads, soda, etc. It was quite nice. Then they announced which teams made the cutoff (ours definitely made it).
We were assigned to play against a strong team who's combined average dwarfed even ours. The team with the higher handicapped total after one game would advance to the best of 8 teams. One guy on the other team bowled a 279, another a 230 something and the third, a 199. We got destroyed. I bowled like crap and got a 160 something. My partner opened with a 6 pack but fell apart and only got 220s. Afterwards, a father of one of the bowlers commented to us that we both were letting up on our ball speed which is why our strike balls became crap. I guess bowling so many games in a row can do this to you.
The ironic thing is, the summer season of the league starts... tonight. I bowled 4 games earlier, and now I have 3 more tonight. I better let my arm rest for a few hours.
However, my team earned 300 dollars for making it to the second round. We should have only gotten 200 since we didn't pay for our absent third, but the organizer of the tournament was nice about it. So each of us turned 16 dollars into 150. Not too bad for 9:15am-2pm.
I'm definitely going to buy a new bowling ball to replace my old battle zone missile in the near future, and I also am going to replace my bowling shoes. The soles are completely disconnecting from the shoe
