I really like Zerg, but I have this huge problem controlling masses of Zerglings. Firstly, how do you control grp the zerglings effectively? I seem to end up selecting the zerglings from a different group, especially when an enemy is already attacking me and i have no time to control all of the lings. Any pros help please.

I guess you have to work on your precision, selecting zerglings shouldn't be difficult at all. I admit when you have like 100 zerglings it can be tough moving them all at once, but other than that it's all in your ability to hone in on specific places fast. One key part of it is the assembly of the zerglings before you attack/defend. Obviously zerglings will be toast against mnm or even zealots if you march in on a straight line, just spend a few seconds to stop in front of where you are going to head to spread them apart attacking more so in a wider area or semi circle. Also try to do this as you're attacking, re positioning them to have more attacking at the same time. As for hotkeying them, it takes some practice, it shouldnt be too bad ifyou have a couple or so in other groups as long as you can move them all. Make sure you are using shift and maybe moving each group apart from the rest as your hotkeying. Another way to do it is perhaps using burrow, control click ctrl 1, u, then control click another zergling and ctrl 2, burrow etc.. the ones that burrow do not go into the same group. Other than that I guess it's all in experience. I hope this helps

The burrow trick is great and doesn't just work for zerglings, but all zerg units.

Also, a very helpful thing to do is to shift-add the zerglings to your groups right as they spawn, meaning that they won't end up standing in a big confusing clump. This method does require quite a lot of speed and attention though, so don't expect to be able to do it right away.

Just hotkey one side of the flank, its more important to have the tech units hotkeyed and dont sacrifice hatchery hotkeys for zerglings, its best if you just keep macroing, for the big clump that arent hotkeyed, just drag the mouse and attack move fast, after some have left, attack with your hotkeyed army and then continue attacking with the rest.

I have actually taken to upgrading burrow a lot now due almost entirely to this. (Although it is nice to be able to burrow a dozen workers when somebody does a drop or harass of some sort.) My main problem was that clumped, un-hotkeyed zerglings are particularly good at making your lurkers run around like blind retards in the heat of battle.

I would find this inappropriate and offensive if I didn't know exactly what you mean.

Wow that burrow thing is so awesome, I always take way too long to select lings when I have a large amount.

lol burrow method is good! I'd imagine I'll fuck up burrowing both lings and lurkers in a flank though

Whats worse though is to not have burrow researched, and then have your attack fail miserably because a stray zling/hydra got into your lurker group and they REFUSE to burrow!

Or when a stray lurker gets into a group of other units, so they can't attack move. Ah, the many sorrows of the zerg player...

Edit: Ok, nvmd, that was wrong.

My mistake, I had to test to make sure...I don't know why I thought that.

I always just find the massive clump of zerglings at my rally point, and select a chunk from each corner of their group, while consecutively doing Ctrl-6,7,8,9. This gets most of them, and the remaining ones just get mouse dragged and manually charged.
