Just thought I'd update you all again since I've gotten a decent amount done today
Started off the day looking into all the different ways I could capture mic input, and after about 3 hours of work, I was able to output the raw data directly to files. Took another hour to get the conversion to OggVorbis working, but now I have a couple of nice, easy functions to do all the work for me, so it should plug straight into the RWARecorder plugin code nicely.
Took another hour to start actually developing the plugin, which included developing a way to draw on SC's window without hooking any functions inside of it. Figured that out (its a bit more flickery than I'd like coming from the hooking approach, but sacrifices must be made to keep this anti-hack approved ). Currently working on automatic game/replay detection, and then I'll be plugging in the recording code to test out for the first time.
On a more unfortunate note, I've basically given up hope of figuring out how the old format (JCA's rwa format) was encoded, so I'm going to have to develop my own header format and break away from the old standard (IE: bwchart won't be able to read who the commenter is =/ ).
So, in a nutshell, I've gotten a lot closer to getting something releaseable out there, although I still have quite a few challenges to overcome. For one, I have to figure out where Starcraft puts the data on how long the replay file is, so that I can figure out where the Ogg file actually begins. And then, of course, I have to tackle actually *playing* the ogg file and keeping it synced up with BW. Ah well, better get back to work

Heh, if you just don't feel like working on it, take some time off and don't burn out. This could be a great tool for the community!

nice job, why don't you send an email to jca asking him for the format specs? also I've been kinda putting it off for apmdetector, but flickering can be made alot less annoying if the person had to hold down a key to see the application, and then when they let go, it would disappear again. that way even if it flickers, it won't annoy the user so much.

I dunno, I just figured JCA was completely inactive now. I guess it'd be worth a try. And yeah, the flicker here probably won't be annoying to the end user, as its just random status text every now and then. Its just annoying to me cause I'm obsessive-compulsive about it
Edit: Actually, does anyone even have a valid email for JCA? The only one I can find is for his email at bwchart.com, which wouldn't work any more.
