So as you know a new game you know which made by you know whom has released its beta version... Just kidding it's Stormgate!

I remixed the main theme and made the visualizer for it in the video below. What do you think about this music?

As for me I'd give it a score of 7/10. It's not as a club-banger like the original Broodwar songs and why do I hear a tick of Sid Meier’s civilization soundtrack lol.

I quite like the song, or at least this remix of it. Not sure if it's what you mean about it being reminiscent of Civilization or not but it does actually sound kinda "historical" to me. With different instrumentation it could be quite nice for Age of Empires type of game/setting, actually.

That is to say, not sure it's the best fit for Stormgate.

This was cool, the synths around 1:20 reminded me a little of

Cool tibbit about that video - it's remixed by the creator of Frozen Synapse, and if you check the comments, the original Deus Ex composer himself commented and appreciated the remix. So see if you can do the same with StormGate's current composer :D Remixes of their soundtrack could be a marketing channel to help them promote the game

Lovely insights guys! Yeah video game soundtracks can be really cool. Nothing can beat the original Broodwar Terran themes but anyways we have to move on.

The Stormgate Main Theme wasn't so bad so I decided to make a piano cover of it:

I like the main theme! Your rendition of it convinced me I should go check out the original too, which is a credit to your playing and to the song's composition.

It does feel a bit "one note". Like it has one central idea/feel and is just a bunch of variations on that theme. Probably when I go listen to the actual theme that will also be represented by variation in instrumentation.

EDIT: Okay, that was not how I was expecting it to sound based on hearing it first on piano, hahaha. I do actually see now what the other poster was saying of it being reminiscent of music from Dues Ex/Unreal.

Yeah, it was a bit difficult for me to convey all of the original instrumental nuances on to the piano. Some elements that sounded better with synth / guitars are omitted, partly cuz they are difficult to reproduce on the piano as well. Another pianist may be to give a better rendition, I think ^_^

Oh just in case I need to clarify, I wasn't saying your rendition was one-note. That was a comment on the song's composition itself (or how I was guessing at it before listening to the real deal). Although probably an unfair comment because listening to the actual track, it was more subtle and atmospheric than I was expecting.
