So my friend and I decided to take advantage of our fresh new league rate and get some practice in today. It was $21.42 for 9 games bowled which is pretty good although they might have given us the wrong discount. I won't give a game by game analysis like I do for league games, but just a general overview.
My scores were 167, 223, 159, 175. As you can see, I'm still having consistency issues. The first game was a warm up game since we don't get 5-10 minutes of practice when we aren't bowling league games, so I can be satisfied with a 167. The second game I found my strike ball and didn't make many mistakes, and it showed in the score. In the third game I missed a couple of spares that I shouldn't have any trouble with, which killed my score. The fourth game I was making the spares save a split, but was having trouble throwing strikes. My ball lost some of its heat as it hooks into the pocket, which I can probably credit to getting tired by game 4. It also was paced pretty fast since there were two of us alternating on 2 lanes.
As usual, questions or comments are welcome. If anyone has any advice, perhaps it will help me perform better tomorrow at the league.

random bowling story. Me, my cousin, and his friend went bowling. We all rolled 107 first game, my cousin rolled 2 more 107's, and i rolled 1 more 107.

Yeah that 167 isn't bad for the first game. I love bowling, although I can only do it once a week for my league. I usually avg 193+, not bad for once a week bowling huh? But yeah I remember bowling back in high school and youth league. I miss those days T.t. But it seems like you're on the right track and know what you're talking about. What shot do you normally aim for? Like what arrow or board? And oh I love those league discount rates.

I've been experimenting with my shot lately. Today my most successful shot was to only go like one spot to the right of center and let the ball spin furiously and jump back into the pocket at the last moment. Historically I've thrown it to reach about 6 inches short of the gutter, and hook all the way back, and I sometimes hook it less than that. I still haven't decided what shot would be the most appropriate. I'd need a pro to watch and consider the type of ball I have, I think.

Do you bowl with your thumb in the ball?
Do you know how to count boards and all for bowling?

Do you know how to count boards and all for bowling? Can you be more specific than 'thumb in the ball'? I have a thumb insert and I think the answer is yes.
My partner uses the dots/boards to line up his throws, but I usually don't. I use the dots on the floor to line myself up for my approach. I don't know where to count boards from etc.

Bowling without your thumb in the ball meaning you just use your middle/ring finger in the holes. I believe this is used for hooking? idk i just bowl straight up normal and get my gosu scores of 60-118

Oh now I know what he means. Some people don't even put their thumb in the ball. Well I do, I hope that's what you mean.

Yeah that's what I meant. But you count boards from the right to the left. Every arrow on the lane means 5 boards. So you really should learn to set up your feet on the lane as well as learning to be able to throw at a target on the lane. That's the only way to cure your inconsistency problem. Just ask someone at your bowling ally to teach you how to count boards and everything. Most people are willing to show you how this is done.

Several people have told me I should aim for a specific target, rather than looking at the pins. I've tried that in the past and it didn't help. Part of the problem is I am not actually sure which one to aim for. And even if I find one that seems to work, the next day the lane will be oiled differently and I'll have to start all over :o

lol. Yeah that's where being able to count boards helps a lot. You have to be able to switch where you aim and everything. You can't just be caught be able to play just one part of the lanes or just one style. But it does depend on what you like. Some people count boards others look at the pins for their target but I believe most people look at the arrows and count boards. The more you learn about bowling the more you can look at different places on the lane for different conditions, i.e like be able to play your break point. Anyhow we can discuss this more if you'd like. Just IM me on msn at andycc989@hotmail.com.

Next time I'm bowling with my friend I'll talk about this specific issue since I haven't really given it much thought since back in High School.
