Way back in 1996/7 I saw a trailer for Men In Black in the cinema. Thus far I have been unable to track it down or find anyone else who remembers seeing it.
The thing is, it wasn't the trailer you can find online today, and the film it teased was clearly quite different from what was eventually released.
Specifically, in that trailer Tommy Lee Jones's character was ALSO a newbie agent. I distinctly remember one clip where a recruitment agent is talking about 'the best of the best', and it cuts to Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, sitting next to each other, yucking it up about 'why are we here then?'
I would dearly love to convince the friends I told about this that I'm not crazy. Can anyone help?
Well, I found a german trailer which includes the recruitment scene you mentioned, but only Will Smith was acting like "why are we here then?".
I compared it to the english trailer. And Will Smith's reaction was actually cut out!
Let me give you a brief overview of the german trailer, starting from 0:22
[0:23] Black screen with text, reading "Looking for the best men" [0:23] Boss guy saying "You're here cause you're the best of the best... blabla" [0:27] Will Smith laughing [0:28] Boss guy asking "What's so funny?" [0:30] Will Smith: "I have no clue why we're here"
