Last fall saw me very busy with everything other than SC2, so my streaming sessions declined and I kind of stepped back a bit from the scene right after the CHEO tournament. IvD was supposed to have gone through a huge website relaunch which I was supposed to be a part of, but I guess management ran into some sponsoring issues (which is of no surprise now) and that was put on the back burner. With IvD and my streaming schedule really slowing down, you can see where I kind of disappeared for a few months.
Headed into the cold, ruthless Canadian winter, my free time began to grow. I began streaming again, although nowhere near the amount as I was during the summer. IvD sadly shut it's doors, although they did amalgamate with Team Ascension. I wasn't interested in making the move with them, so I kind of did my own thing while keeping my eyes open.
That's when I saw the mYi post on r/starcraft about seeking a new Editor in Chief.
It seemed pretty cool, I knew it would be right up my alley as I love to write and would love being a part of such an awesome team. One thing that did bug me, is that a lot of the comments in the thread were negative, especially ones about the position not being paid. I can see the argument, you do work and should get compensated for that. I have a very stable job IRL, and our raises are based on two things...our performance, and if there is any room in the budget to actually give it to you. I may deserve it, but if there isn't any money, there isn't any money. Just be thankful that you have a job, because many people nowadays do not. That's just reality, and I think a lot of the comments were written by kids that don't necessarily have much life experience yet to understand this. That's where no-cost bonuses come in. Does it cost my IRL company to give me a day off with pay? It does in some crazy, analytical, pseudo-intellectual way sure, but in the grand scheme of things, no it doesn't. It's a drop in the bucket. So when mYi offers the odd hardware upgrade or some event participations, it's because that's the best they can do with the limited budget they have. In all honesty, I couldn't care less. I do this for a hobby, to take my mind off of IRL problems which are FAR more stressful than SC2 for me. I'm just happy to work with great people.
So here we are. I've got just about everything setup now including all of my social media and such finished. Next order of business will be to find 2-3 writers that are committed and looking to grow a portfolio. As another unpaid position, this would qualify as entry level writing, so that's who I'm looking for. Someone who is eager to just get some words down and possibly begin a writing career. I'll be making a post on r/starcraft and here on the TL forums (if not classified as advertising, I need to look into it) in a day or two that will be more formal. This blog is really just a journal for me to reflect back on, hence the HORRENDUS grammatical errors and whatever. haha
Oh, one more thing. My son's March break is the 16th - 20th this year, so I was planning on hosting the 2nd CHEO Invitational the 19th-20th. I'm working now to gather a prize pool together, and once that's done I'll start approaching players. I'd really like for it to happen though, it's been too long since the last and I really enjoyed myself and my time with Brayden.
