Pokemon TCG (Part 2)

Well I was not actually planning to write a second blog on the Pokemon Trading Card Game, but here it is!

While I was still playing the game casually and having fun times, one my Twitch viewers (Kalvin) kindly decided to help me into playing the game competitively.

He helped me create my very first competitive deck, Donphan!

Here is my Deck List:

With the Donphan Deck, I started winning almost all my ranked games. And with it, I really got to explore the competitive side of Pokemon. I played vs Kalvin and his other competitive decks such as Seismitoad EX, Aromatisse, Manectric EX, Yveltal EX.

But as I got started playing vs better people, at the same time, I realized how limited the game can be. If you don't play a meta deck, odds are, you will lose. Sure there are deviations of pre-exisiting decks, but the general idea is the same. But I suppose all Card Games are like this, so I shouldn't be too disappointed. Some cards are just better than others, and most cards will suck.
After playing a while, I became a bit too stressed with the game. My goal was now to win, not just have fun.

So I decided to build some other "fun" decks. Now that I have a good understanding on how a deck works, I built a few decks to have fun with. And here are the decks I feel like sharing!

1) Mega Heracross Deck

Pretty self explanatory. Get M-Heracross EX out, OHKO everything with Big Bang HORN
Heal with Cherrim to maximize Heracross' damage
Also Big Bang Horn is so much fun to say

2) Coin Flip Deck

Oh boy, nothing is more fun than OHKO a EX Pokemon by flipping 4 heads in a row

This deck revolves around flipping heads, and flipping again with Victini Victory Star/Trick Coin
Obviously luck based, but when you do flip those heads... it is GLORIOUS
Side note, this is Expanded/Unlimited only because of Purple Victini and Level Ball

3) Troll Deck (aka Cinccino)

I don't know who made this card, but man is it annoying.
I get pretty pissed off when I play another Cinccino deck.
Flip Heads, take no damage, Flip Tails, Lose

I have the Cherrim/Hard Charm/Aspertia City to help Cinccino take hits and survive/heal while hopefully trying to not get hurt by flipping heads

4) Lost World

Now this is a TERRIBLE deck. But one I am quite proud of!
I put many different tactics and strategies in it to try to make this idea work. Basically Mime Jr puts cards into the Lost Zone, and if there are 6 Pokemon in the Lost Zone, I can declare victory using the Lost World stadium card. I use Malamar EX, Munna, and Audino to try to get Mime Jr to stay alive. And this is Unlimited only, since Mime Jr and Lost World are old cards

5) Vivillon Deck

Oh this is a FUN deck. I love this deck so much. I think this deck is actually sort of good... If it were not for a few very popular cards such as Mewtwo EX and Yveltal EX...
4 Different Energy and Silver Bangle = 180 Damage, enough to knock out an EX!
I use Victini EX to power up the Vivillon and blast away with Colorful Wind!

And it is so much fun to see how many energy you can stack hahaha

6) Chandelure Deck

I love Chandelure, but this deck is absolute garbage.

Idea is to drop damage counters on benched pokemon, and hopefully try to trade knockout with Fainting Spell. Unfortunately, I have not been very successful with this deck

7) Ice Cream Deck

Last but not least, my Vanilluxe Deck
Idea is to use Enefountain to charge up Kyurem EX + Show Spoiler +

and Muscle Band for OHKO.
Also use Slippery Soles Vanilluxe + Show Spoiler +

to switch out between Kyurem and Vanilluxe to recharge.

I would like to add more N but they were pretty expensive to buy so I skimped and bought Shauna instead.
Unfortunately, the Slipper Soles Vanilluxe is not in Standard format, but I bought another PS Vanilluxe to replace if needs be.
This deck feels very unsmooth, as it is with every Stage 2 pokemon decks. I've had some success online, but again, it will lose most of the time to meta decks.
I kinda want to add another Kyurem EX and maybe take out the Zekrom (it's only there for Yveltal...)
Also, it does seem supporter light, so I might add more (Colress would be GREAT addition)
But Vanilluxe is one of my favorite Pokemon and the Kyurem EX (PB) looks very nice

And yes I know, Deluge Blastoise would probably be better but the idea was to use Vanilluxe

competitive poke tcg still a thing? the only time i remember getting involved was 13 years ago when my friends and i were in kindergarten/1st grade

Yeah I'm not sure how popular it is, since I haven't followed any other TCG, but there is competitive scene.
I'm pretty sure I never actually played the game back then
Just kinda collected cards haha
My first holo was Alakazam :D

Also I kinda realize how expensive this can get, since new cards and new sets get rotated in and out all the time
So I probably will not actually try to go competitive
I'll probably still dabble in the online game though

Also my poverty Ace Spec Computer Search = Base Set Computer Search

It's like $21 dollars to get the current one

The base set was 99 cents
