Hey guys,

Me and my identical triplet brother ZeroCartin created this game for the Global Game Jam. It's called Hook Bots, and it's a 4 player deathmatch game similar to Towerfall. We intend to work on this a lot and try to get a good partner at the Game Developers Conference to publish this game with us.
You pick a robot to enter a deathmatch arena, and whoever gets up to 8 robot kills first wins.

The level you see is temporary as we still have some balancing to do. Mainly more space to control jumps better, hook jumps from the lower platforms and maybe getting the razors to be a bit less lethal!

In the near future, we are planning to be able to have an Alpha test for this game. I would love to hear your opinion / feedback for the game!

there needs to be incentive to go into center. it looks like camping a corner is very strong. maybe add a shield so u can take a hit in center? also the hooks are really large, looks weird, id make them a bit smaller.

if you could add a swinging mechanic and a bit larger levels i could see this being pretty fun. atm the game looks too simple, albeit probably pretty entertaining.

I think I would really like to play this game for about an hour maximum; I like the simple premise but it doesn't look like there are too many ways to increase the difficulty or raise the skill ceiling or improve the entertainment value. Cool concept, but low replay value, I think. You could take a page out of Super Mario Bros.'s/ Super Smash Bros.'s books and introduce walking enemies/ items/ moving stages just to mix things up a bit and add more chaos. I'd also consider making it an option for each robot to start off with being able to take one hit, two hits, or three hits before dying, as that may make an interesting evolution from survival mode to a more aggressive game play. Entertaining: I agree that making the level larger and having more swinging mechanic could be REALLY fun.

DarkPlasmaBall: One of the things we are trying to tackle is skill ceiling. We are also looking for different ways to break up the gameplay so it feels new, fresh and you dont know exactly what to expect every time. We will look into your ideas and see what works and what doesnt!

The chain sound is annoying because sound length doesn't fit with how long the animation typically lasts. Especially annoying when multiple chains are going at the same time and you get weird phasing sounds. Though if you keep that in it could add some charm to the game.

Totally agree! Since we had so little time, we just quickly put together the game with temp audio assets. We will definetely improve on this
