Hmmm, I debated starting this bc i can only type with one hand, so I am working painfully slow. However, I am genuinely curious to see who would be interested in seeing how well i can play DOTA with my only usable hand.
Background:
I broke my scaphoid and am in a cast that goes up to my mid bicep on my left arm. This means I can only use my right hand to play. Luckily, I have a Razer Naga which allowed me to move hotkeys to the side of my mouse.
+ Show Spoiler +
Unfortunately this means I can really only use one or two buttons in sequence effectively. I have no control groups. I cannot micro.
So, my question is...is there any interest in me blogging my experiences on a separate smurf account to see how high I can get my mmr using my right hand only? Streaming, etc? Let me know!

damn, how long is it going to take to heal?

it will be 2-3 months in a cast unfortunately...and lord knows i cannot go without dota for that long lol

I'd be interested.
You should only play wraith king.

That's too bad about your hand! Personally I think I'd try to play some games more suited for one handed play, but the passion for dota seems strong in this one.

i played wraith king once but it wasnt as satisfying as sniper or techies were. mostly due to the fact that both of those heroes are so obnoxious. i get a rise out of it lol
i also wanna test my limits and see if i can play more complicated heroes as i get better with one hand.
i have been looking for games i can play casually, but thats no fun for me. hearthstone is too rng and single player isnt nearly as engaging.

I think you can play any hero well with one hand. You just need to use down times to drop the items into the quick buy area so you can quickly click on them. Also pick less active items than normal so you don't have them and the skills to use.
I think you will drop 200 mmr and then stabilize there. It isn't that big of a difference not using the keyboard. The biggest problem is probably no chat wheel, if you can bind that to a mouse button you should be good to go (or since you are on US server you can use the mic to communicate).

why can't you just set static control groups on your mouse like 1 for hero 2 for courier 3 for all 4 all other units

lmfao i love how you described sniper/techies and why you enjoyed playing them, good on you xD
If what you want to do wont hurt you in any way in terms of healing then sure go for it :~) If it's more a pain then an enjoyment for you then I'd recommend against it.

i only have enough room for my abilities. that gives me 1 button for opening voice (since it takes me 10 years to type)
i suppose i have 1 key i can use for a control group though, maybe i will set that to my hero for when im clicking on heroes.

idk about any hero. even with quick cast, not having more than one finger to execute ability combos is difficult. think about heroes like LC who want to use press the attack, blademail, blink, then ulti all in the span of a split second. i potentially could learn to do this but definitely cannot right now. but that would be the fun of this little project

the only thing that will be hurt by playing only with the mouse is my ego when i fuck up bc im slow as a sloth when using my abilities lol. but yeah, its gonna also have to be about fun since im gonna be super frustrated with my control setup!

I would likely not build a ganking LC. Even though that is what the hero is good at. I would build items I can use optimally, even if that might not suit the hero perfectly. Getting just the blink without another active item before hh/bkb/hex/abyssal could also be an option. You won't solo stuff as easily but can still do good ganks with an ally.

yeah i think part of the challenge will be relearning how to play heroes a different way. i LOVE my blink dagger...now that is much more difficult for me to justify purchasing. lothar will be more commonly picked up too (an item i very rarely purchase).
thankfully i moved to an all quick cast setup (with x bound to tp being the only non-quickcast key). the only problem is that the buttons on the side of my mouse are not meant to pressed quickly as far as i can tell..they are a little clunky. luckily, if i wanted to play lc, i have a good friend who loves playing lina...only need to press r then let him do the work lol.

i will not play invoker bc i can tell ya right now, i can't really mash combos on my mouse lol..huskar with a bkb was a challenge so far..still did well with that.
i did try jugg however, i was in a dual lane w/ lina vs spectre, dazzle, and lion. we secureda double kill early, but my ogre insisted on staying top to help drow 1v1, ganked mid by face rushing uphill, and refused to come bottom for ez support kills. double stun plus bladefury would have been broken.
instead, drow constantly ran off solo and got killed while i was frequently left for dead by my zeus and ogre.
on the plus side, mechanically it worked out. when we played as a team i ghot several good omnislashes and kills. i just had a really slow start, not being able to last hit at all.

Ok, I'm not trying to make you feel bad, but Blitz is playing Storm one-handed on stream right now, he had a 10 minute orchid and is 11/1/2 15 minutes in lmfao

i'm the juggernaut bitch!
panic mode when your one finger controls all of your abilities is not easy. rough start into putting the team on my back asnd holding them there with one hand.
good recommendation!

You must change your hand posture.
Rotate your hand a bit to have 2 fingers on the side of your mouse! Now you have 2 fingers for abilities!
It's like using the gamepad "claw" technique that people used on PSP to play Monster Hunter.

The worst to adapt is probably the need to use the middle finger for the left clicks. But it's a good trade-off.

i go full xboct when i play spirit breaker and get way aggressive, this was a fun one.
this game was played with two of my friends who dont play as much (and billy mays, who i stack with a bunch) so it was pretty wonky. i roamed a bunch and put some pressure on the map since top lane had a trilane with plenty of ways to stop charge. i gave our am a great start and he got a 12 min battlefury! but he wanted to join in on the fun we were having and his next item, a yasha, came at 23 min so, he couldn't out carry or split push with the space and they just blew us up. he got farm at the end bc we were able to wipe em a couple times, but it took some buy backs and we couldn't hold megas.
overall though it was a fun game, i just want to play sb with a big stack..i should also play a lot better now since im more used to mashing buttons on the side of my mouse! thanks for the love!

i am in a thumb spica cast that goes up to my elbow. this is what i look like
+ Show Spoiler +
now it looks like my fingers are free and i just cant use my thumb..but the cast is up to my elbow, so i cannot rotate my wrist enough to place my 4 free fingers on the keyboard. occasionally i will use my pinky to set something on quick buy w/ shift or buy out before i die w/ space but it hurts (im incredibly stiff and sore <3 painkillers)..so i may adjust my hotkeys slightly. i have a free one to use to center myself on my hero but i can just use the mouse i suppose.

yes! ive taken a break from sniper to try jugg bc you are right, they take mostly the same effort..but i think that jugg is more of a top tier pick. maybe i'll post my one handed hero ranking
whew that took forever to type...with one hand lol! thank you so much for the interest guys i really appreciate it . i'm setting up my stream so i'll post a blog that announces this, complete with cam on my mouse so you can see me spaz out when 3 heroes jump me XD

You misunderstood what i said.
My sugestion is to rotate your mouse hand a bit, use 2 fingers on your naga's hotkeys. Basically use all of your five fingers available. Middle finger on left click, the two to the left on naga's hotkeys, the other two get the scroll and right click.

i did completely misunderstand..i saw the diagram w/ the left hand and wasn't sure what you meant lol. blame the pain killers ![[image loading]](http://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/dota2.gamepedia.com/c/cb/Emoticon_crazy.gif)
i tried that posture and it was suuuuuuper awkward. it'll be easier and more successful for me to play easier heroes i think
