I suppose part of the reason for my confidence was my white male privilege, knowing that the system is built around people like me for people like me. My previous experience with police was not enough to make me think that I would have any issue getting out of the situation unscathed. Now I know better.

Feminist propaganda is the opposit of the wisdom you require. If you are from the US then yeah, pay the money don't go to jail. FWIW here they would make you sleep the night on the comisary, but with such low levels you could prolly get away with a small fine for a first offender (200 bucks or smth)

The first time, I explained it to the officer and he just let me slide (I have been pulled over in other people's cars near their homes and somehow this always helps with them being lenient; weird phenomenon). The second time, my lights might have actually been on but very dim. The bulbs are pretty shitty and like I said traffic and well lit streets makes it hard to tell and you can see pretty well even if they are off. He wrote me a ticket. I spent multiple days going to court until finally it was thrown out. Anyway, the point of all this is that the cops immediately assume you are drunk. I think they have a couple of basic checklists for suspected drunk drivers and cause to pull over and test: No headlights, loud music, and windows down at night. Both times the cops were like "How much did you drink tonight?" like assuming that I had drank or was drunk, both times I hadn't a drop. And then they proceeded to run field sobriety tests anyway. I'm not really sure the laws on having to take anything but a breathalyzer but I do know if you deny it you immediately go to jail and they take a blood test instead. Not sure how they can force this too, but friends just told me if you deny that too its just as bad as admitting guilt and they suspend your license and fine you etc. (its some sort of agreement you make when you are issues license). That being said, I have a friend who works as a paralegal in a court house or something and he says just extend your trials as much as you can until its like 6months-1year later and hope the cop doesn't show up and it gets thrown out. You can make your case about the sloppy testing and trickery etc. And obviously read up on the laws and plead your case around that.
