So I never really got into the Moba scene tell this new year. I slowly trailed off of following starcraft 2 and just watch big tournaments but I don't really watch player streams any more (except NonY) But I really didn't want to leave competitive gaming and I wanted to look around.
I used to hate watching Moba games I still cannot sit through a game of LoL I really just can't stand it's graphics. Then my friend convinced me to come back and try dota 2. Now the only experience I have had with the game was the one game I played during beta as Doom + Show Spoiler +
and got flamed so hard I uninstalled and never looked back.
My first couple games back I was probably even worse than in that doom game because My friends were telling me to do all sorts of different things and it's easy to at least hobble your way through a game as doom.
I went and looked for all material on getting better and the one that helped the most was http://www.purgegamers.com/welcome-to-dota-you-suck This guide is amazing and a must read for all new comers. I by all means am still a complete noob bot and suck face at this game. Though I am starting to notice how much my Starcraft mechanics have translated to me being able to grasp the mechanics of this game much faster and have decent plays.
After finally making a painstaking way up to level 13 to finally start playing ranked games I felt pretty good about my play style and comfortable with quite a few heroes. I started watching lots of player streams coping their styles item builds and techniques.
So I was ready lets do this I wanna get ranked I want that number that tells me how good I am at the game. So go and played my 10 ranked games losing not a single one and getting placed at 2780. Damn I thought I was getting really good. I still have a really long way to climb if I wanna get to those bragging mmr numbers. So I tried to grind games, which is beyond infuriating, Dota has made me raged way more times than SC2 ever did and I played Protoss during 1-1-1, Broodlord Infestor and Taldarim altar PvP.
So now it's been a month and my solo Q has only now started going up as I have discovered the Hero Lycan. He is easily my strongest hero now and I love playing him. I have played him in every lane and I just like how hard he hits early on I have been starting to average 170+ last hits per game which is way more than all the other players I have been playing with.
Even after all this I still watch streams and don't understand so much about the game. This maybe why I have fallen head of heels these past months. As someone who last year couldn't even sit through a game to watch to devoting a lot of time to trying to be good and understand the game. Everyone should get Dota 2 a shot.
