Anyways. Today I decided to look into the Mothership, mostly to save myself time <3.
Oh and before I start, just going to point out that I'll be attempting to stream soon! The stream link will be http://www.twitch.tv/sirphalanx and the quality more likely will be shit! There's also a higher chance than not that I'll lag a lot, so I may only do it this once. I really don't have the internet to stream T.T. Streaming will probably occur around 9-11 am JST (convert it yourself lazies) and I will only play unranked because I don't want to lose a ladder game to lag.
I'm sure that I'm not the only one who's disappointed with what shit the mothership has become in HotS. It used to be what PvZ hinged around, flying it's bloated body about and shitting on broodlords using it's most infamous toilet. It may have even been a little bit too important to PvZ.
Now? The mothership is nothing. It's a downgrade from the MSC. It doesn't have the only ability that made it worth it, vortex. It's recall isn't even interesting anymore. Blizz literally said that the mothership was now not intended to be used in competitive play. Why would they do this to our precious unit!?!?!? It makes me sad. However, by god I'll search for some way to utilize it.
Since I need something of actually information on this blog, I'll just go around listing out ways that I think it could actually be useful.
1 - Defend from Mass Runbys
This is something that I actually just thought of... maybe I actually can make use of the mothership. The mass runbys that I refer to in this circumstance are speedling/ultra suicide runs when facing Skytoss. Mass ground units are unable to be successfully chased by the slow protoss air units. I myself haven't faced this strategy often, but I daresay it's the hardest counter to skytoss (since you can't just baserace fast enough). The mothership can, perhaps, be used to cloak a base or a big wall. Think about it; Who takes along an overseer when they're going for a suicide run with speedlings!?!?
This requires the enemy to not bring along overseers. Thus, it's a 1-time thing. Perhaps just the 1 time can be enough though... I actually may try this some time in the near future.
2 - Defend from Locusts
I believe that I've seen this mentioned in quite a few places, so I'll just put it out here. The mothership can be used to cloak your units and keep them out of harms way from locusts. This is achievable due to the fact that overseers can easily be sniped using your air units (or if you have them, tempests!). Your army will be untouchable by only locusts unless the opponent throws all their overseers at you in 1 wave (which still probably would die too fast).
The mothership, however, won't help too much with actually breaking swarmhost postitions as long as their is mass static D in place.
3 - ...Retard magnet??
I suppose that seeing a mothership will prompt most players to just target it the fuck down because, hey, it's a big fucking target! If I move fast enough, I could utilize this to get them out of position (and maybe even land some slows). However, it's a huge investment for a strat that relies solely on your opponent being stupid.
4 - Give enemy a handicap
Because wasting time/supply/resources will give them a chance if you're winning enough.
5 - ...........
Ok I couldn't even come up with 4 reasons to make a mothership. I actually tried guys. But as soon as I thought of the possible uses of using the time bomb, I realize that the MSC would both move faster and have energy to use it earlier. It's pathetic. The mothership is truely useless in almost all cases.... Unless you rely on the enemy being ver very bad and never knowing how to make detection or using scans.
So... yeah I guess today's daily was pointless. Oh well! More for myself to have actually written something daily.
Uh... Thanks for reading? Have a nice day.
