This is my first time completing FireRed. I never beat Red because my emulator couldn't render the fog in the Pokemon tower of Lavender town.
Rules: Most of my games my opponents don't use items or switch. I felt it was an unfair advantage that I could. So I only used items if they did first. It made it much harder. Many times I was down to one pokemon or my guys all fainted.
The strategization was fun though.

Congrats dude! Not using items sounds kinda difficult though, I have to admit, I spam those lol. I think I'll try that out on Pokemon X&Y when it comes out, and see how it goes .

Have you ever heard of Nuzlocke runs?
Basically it's a self-imposed challenge taken up to eleven. Generally there is no restriction on items, but believe me, you need them.

im confused....i see 3 butterfrees and 3 sandslash's. THe sandlash's are called dugtrio and 2 of the butterfrees a beedrills....

.you should try Blaze Black (a mod for Black version) that enhances the enemy AI and ups the difficulty in general. It makes the game much more enjoyable, imo.
Also, obligatory Nuzlocke re-mention.
Another thing I've been trying when playing is making Pokecenters cost money. I haven't figured out how much is fair, but I've been using $10xLvl per heal +100 for status ailments. Seems alright so far, though I've only just started

Yeah I've seen nuzlocke's. Thanks.
