Hello Readers!
One thing about muscle memory is that while you are learning new skills, gaps in training weaken these fragile memories and set you back. Since I was only able to get 2 days of practice over the last week, I suffered a setback in my training.
One interesting thing is that my weakness is coming early game during large all-ins. As the games go later, I have a naturally better macro than almost all at my rank and my abiltiy to multitask several armies using TheCore hotkeys gives me a definite edge. But it is really frustrating to lose to a silly all-in due only to my failure to be as clean and sharp with my building placement and micro as I was with the original hotkey setup.
But I'm continuing to trailblaze away, happy that every time I play I feel real progress and I feel that I'm learning to command my army with real skill. Those moments give me hope that I'll get there eventually with the core. As for comments about me "giving up". I feel they are premature. I feel like the more time I spend with the core, the better my army command gets. Once I can macro and early game micro with TheCore the same as I could with my old hotkeys, I know that I'll be able to achieve higher rank than I would have been able to otherwise.
Thanks for reading!

I don't fail!
Back on topic, can you tell me how many hours did you need to get back to your mechanics after switching to the core?

It's interesting that you feel breaks hurt your training. I found that taking breaks was instrumental in learning TheCore. Sleeping on it for a day or two always made me feel much better when coming back to it.
@Entropia Coming from a mid-Masters player, it took me about 2-3 months of playing ~10-15 hours per week to get back to my old skill level.

There's different degrees of this, I'd say, but depending on your habits, I think 1 season could be a reasonable estimate.
In about 8 weeks and around 150 games of ladder and unranked play, my APM was about 15% faster than my peak the prior year (measured with GGTracker and old replays vs. new). This is after just coming off of a 9 month break from SC2. Now some of that could just be that I have been playing more games this year than last year. I'm certainly enjoying HotS a lot more.
Subjectively, I feel that my habits are much improved, e.g. using cameras, using several control groups for units.
However, The Core still doesn't feel instinctive to me yet. I touch-type and when I compare my use of the core to regular typing, it still feels like I have room to grow. I feel like I make more mistakes with the core than when I type regularly.
That last bit is pretty subjective, though. I'm making mistakes typing this very post, but I quickly correct them as I watch the mistakes happen. Its harder to see the mistakes as they happen in SC2, so perhaps mistakes are much less painful while touch-typing rather than when playing SC2. Therefore, perhaps I'm just naturally more critical/sensitive of my SC2 keyboard usage rather than my regular typing.
In short, its not quick or easy to switch to the core. However, if you plan on playing SC2 for a long time, I feel the switch is worth the initial pain and suffering.
