Later on, you might want to focus more on kanji <-> meaning/pronounciation vocabulary instead and that's all fine and well. But I do think that some basic Kanji writing skills are important.
I'm thinking of putting together a very simple Anki deck on radicals, starting with the Japanese Wiki entry on radicals and then expanding by a few made up radicals. Just a Radical and a simple name (which can easily be changed to your own name for the radical) on each card. I'd upload it in case someone else can make use of it.
Any suggestions for made up radicals?
