And if you can.. Add an explanation of why. I am not very educated on combos. I just know that they are out there. THANKS! :D When I beat the game i used Vaporeon and it pretty much swept everyone by itself tbh. I'd say like Charizard/Vaporeon/random electric maybe? here

Now that you have a Grass-type, you need a Fire- and Water-type to round out your team. Gyarados is a fantastic option for a Water-type, since his Attack is through the roof, and his defenses are surprisingly good for a Pokemon with a 4x weakness to Electric. Another great choice is Starmie, who possesses great all-around stats and a really nice movepool. Either one is a superb option, but you have plenty of other choices, like Vaporeon or Lapras. Choose what you'd rather have more: a solid defensive Pokemon or a hard-hitting Pokemon. Fire is more difficult to choose, since there are very few available when compared to Grass- and Water-types. Your best shot would have probably been Arcanine, who is similar to Gyarados with his great bulk and attacking stats. The problem with Arcanine is that despite his attacking stats, he simply doesn't have too many moves to take advantage of them with. On top of that, you can't even get Arcanine in LeafGreen. Therefore, a more support-oriented Pokemon like Ninetales is a good choice; her lack of defenses is made up for by her above-average Special Attack and Speed, along with her access to Will-O-Wisp. This obviously isn't set in stone, so feel free to mix and match depending upon your desires. Happy hunting!

If you want to challenge yourself choose some crappy pokemon to make it more difficult, like an unevolved Magikarp, unevolved Kakuna/Metapod, unevolved Ratata or vanilla eevee or any baby pokemon, shouldnt be too much.

I've beat those games with a team consisting of only Pidgeot, only Lickitung, only (insert starter pokemon), only raticate, only nidoking, etc. etc. If you want to challenge yourself choose some crappy pokemon to make it more difficult, like an unevolved Magikarp, unevolved Kakuna/Metapod, unevolved Ratata or vanilla eevee or any baby pokemon, shouldnt be too much. Same lol. Beat everything with a single Pidgeot.

id go charizard/gyrados/gengar. you can get gyrados by the time you can fish which is vermillion and gastly/haunters are catchable at lavender town which is pretty much right after that. that gives you the time to train your charmander up until you get magikarp, and gives you space for magikarp to level up. gengar is liek one of the sickest special sweepers in the game, give it shadow ball, thunderbolt, and whatever the fuck else. charizard to cover for typign and because its your starter, and venasaur is shit in like every generation except right now and blastoise gets outclassed by gyrados gyrados is strong physical sweeper with great stats and albeit a mediocre learned movepool, you can get dragon dance->waterfall going

Dragon Dance isn't too helpful with that move. Shadow Ball is also physical in LG, so Gengar can't really use that.

We just get to pick 3 pokemon on battle day. So I can get tons of pokemon and train them. Get a Snorlax with leftovers, Lapras/Jynx with blizzard or ice beam to counter almost everything, and Primeape to do fast fighting damage. Open with the Snorlax.

In that case: Charizard Earthquake Flamethrower Fly Fire Blast? (maybe something else in place of this) Alakazam Psychic Psybeam Thunderpunch ?? (Insert another special move) Gyarados Surf Thunderbolt Hyper Beam Ice Beam

Starmie with Psychic/Thunderbolt (depends on jolteon/alakazam use), Surf, Ice Beam and Recover is the most overpowered regular pokemon Alakazam's STAB'd psychic and recover along with his speed is pretty nuts too Gengar with hypnosis, giga drain, thunderbold and elemental punch is an extremely well rounded pokemon Snorlax is a fantastic physical powerhouse and tank to round out your team as all the above are weak to a special wall Pick any three of the above. Don't use alakazam and gengar. I've done it with just starmie and alakazam myself, I'd pick jolteon as third for going through the game in blazing speed. Not sure how this does with HM, I allowed replacing one pokemon with HM slaves when going through mazes EDIT: wait, this isn't beating the game with 3 pokemon? You just need 3 pokemon for a battle? In that case there are countless strategies... Impossible to say best three, only starmie from above is obvious choice. Starmie with thunderbolt, Gengar with above moves, and a curse Snorlax would be my choices
