HotS so Far

So far in HotS, I generally like the additions to the game, the new graphics and physics are awesome, even if I play with a lot of it turned off/down, lol.

A couple thoughts I had on additions were that:
  • Swarm Host: too expensive, but too strong, as well. If you have 1000-2000m/g to spend on 5-10 swarm hosts, they're awesome...but 1000-2000m/g on anything is pretty awesome. I wouldn't mind seeing their cost and strength both decreased so you can get more out sooner for less cost....
  • Mutas are awesome vs toss now.
  • Viper never seems like a good choice, because if you 'NEED' it, it's hive tech and you probably won't have it, and if you can get it, you usually don't 'NEED' it.
  • Hydra still seems like a niche unit, but a much better one, now.

Other than that, my winrate right now is 76% in ZvP, 66% in ZvZ, but only 23% in ZvT. So I dunno if Terran needs nerfs, or if I'm just tilted vs them (big possibility), or if I just haven't figured out the meta or what. In general though, the new medivacs have been responsible for several terrans I had on the ropes being able to make some really clutch plays and pull out wins that previously would have been losses, and widowmines have turned a few fairly even games into a one-sided slaughter a couple times.

The thing MOST owning me though, is the hellbat. Adding hellbats to bio makes it almost immune to ling/bane/muta, and hellbats added to the old thor/tank makes it immune to the usual roach play. There doesn't seem to be any unit that's actually decent against the hellbat. Between their high single-shot damage, and the AoE, and their high HP, they're very very robust units. I've lost every game Terran's gotten any significant number of hellbats.

The oracle seems underwhelming. If you're prepped for them at all, they do roughly nothing, and even if you're not prepped, as long as you respond quickly, they're not going to hurt you too bad. Run drones, build queens, build 1-2 spores, stargate+oracle now wasted money. Dunno. No one's build tempests against me, so I dunno about those. Mommacore seems ok, hasn't made a HUGE difference in games I've played.

People kept saying hydra vs muta isn't viable anymore, but it seems to be working fine for me so far. If I see people going mutas, I just drop some spine/spore in base 1/2, get hydra/roach and go take a 3rd with the army protecting it. Fast hydras can get back to the main/nat now in enough time to save em from taking too much muta damage, and once you get a base ahead, you just drop a few more spine/spore and counter their main. Game over most games. Dunno. Infestors help on it, too.

how do you make mutas work in zvp? 2base lair into quick mutas into third?

as far as I know, mutas are incredibly easy to counter nowadays if toss know they are coming. Especially if you open SG which most toss seems to be doing, yes?

as I see it, vipers are great as a followup on a SH contain vs protoss.

I havent lost a single game against someone trying to go hydra roach vs my muta/lng, not sure how that would even happen (although Ive won a few with gasless opening into mass queen + spore at early third into roach/hydra but they have all been against lesser opponents, and require far too much minerals to lock down and counter in time.)

I do agree that the oracle is terrible in pvz as an opening build and so easy to counter considering the huge investment for toss, perhaps its usage is more directed towards lategame? (but who needs them when u can wtflol everything with HT skillrays)

Every match I play against T is boring and bullshit unless they simpy dont use Widow mine or utilize the methvacs enough.

although Im complaining a lot, Im also excited because the brand new hots gives every player an opportunity to come up with something own rather than having to copy pro builds

Hellbats in a bio comp vs mutas aren't good. If you're losing to them, that means you're not making enough banelings. Go make 40 banelings and roll them over. Hellbats are light units.
Oracle comes in, Scvs go down, never a miscommunication.

As to how to make muta work in ZvP, I've been mainly using them as part of this. Lots of people go Robo, still. I see a lot of 1-base SG openings...so that's not a problem, either. Just get some spores and queens and expo as you scout. They usually either swap to robo and you go with that plan, or they add SGs, and you go with that plan.

Hellbats in bio are still a problem, since just a handful of hellbats can annihilate a ton of banes, between their splash damage, and the fact that they are bulkier than standard bio units and have more HP, so they eat a ton of banes, so they end up with marines left over and then you're in trouble...unless they just don't split or micro at all...Also, since they already have methvacs, they can just pick up at that point and drop everywhere. It sucks.

I don't think swarm hosts are too expensive, I think they have their strengths and weakness and must be used correctly. But I DO think they are a boring unit. Watching endless waves of locusts march towards a terran/protoss army isnt exciting at all. The terran/protoss player dont want to engage because they are free units, and the zerg player are not inclined to micro them because they are so damn slow. I mean, how do you make a unit less exciting than that?

As for ZvT I usually find the matchup pretty easy if I play aggressively and put on pressure in the early game. Too many terrans are getting away with triple cc too easily. But apart from that I haven't really played much HOTS and I don't know your exact skill level, so... can't help you much =\

Well, in the assumption that you're not trolling, as the post sounds facetious, but facetiousness and sarcasm on the internet are funny things...
