Oh okay, makes sense. Yeah it's clear you weren't being an asshole or anything, I mean if it's pouring rain etc and the roads are unsafe, safely pulling over ASAP doesn't mean RIGHT NOW ON THE CORNER WHERE SOMEONE COULD BOWL INTO YOU but actually somewhere safe.

Hm I've gotten into a car accident once--I was the front passenger. We were going through a green light at an intersection in a suburban area when a police car barreled into my side at 50-60 mph in a T-bone collision :X

Oh, holy heck! That sounds plumb awful!! O_O Having a squad car T-bone your side of the vehicle at 50-60 mph sounds like it'd cause a lot of damage to you, if not kill you. Maybe you were in a much larger, safer car than I'm imagining? X-D

I was actually in something like a 2006 Honda Accord XD

The police car just ran the red light chasing something apparently, and the massive dent it made went over my body (I was lying in an extremely inclined position, something like 150 degrees lol). Definitely got lucky there ;_;

Was in the bus with one of my best friends and a girl I've known for a while, just before the holidays, ready to go to her place, get even more stoned than I already was and play video games, all that in a complete state of happiness and joy.

The bus stops to drop some people and then this happens : The bus starts going back on the road and a woman of a certain weight runs right in front of him, the bus stops and gets hit by a car behind, but what happens is the woman, hidden by the bus, gets hit so hard by a car, I've never witnessed a accident before and everything goes in a split second, hear the brakes, boom, turn around, people all around the car, blood on the road. Wow, what the fuck, I go out of the bus with my friend, and instantly starts calling what would be the 911 in france, but I'm heavily under the influence, and fucking shocked, because there's a ton of blood on the street, it takes me at least 2mns to clearly explain wtf happened, then I rush to the woman and with the help of a guy who was apparently a doctor, do all the stuff you do in case of emergency.

That was really shocking, there was blood everywhere because she hurt her head and it was wide open, the car front glass was completely broken and the airbags went off, the guy was driving at like 50km/h which isn't too much but still that was spectacular to say the least.

She didn't die thank god, but that was shocking for me and my friends, and since then I double check every time I have to pass a bus that's stopping or getting ready to drive again.

It always sucks to experience an accident, especially one as awful as a traffic accident, and you don't know how you or the people around you are going to react until you've been a witness to one yourself.

I've only experienced two traffic accidents myself and luckily, no one was killed or even seriously hurt in any of them. The first one was a station wagon driving right in front of us with a trailer full of gravel. At some point his trailer starts to swing a little to the sides and we brake a little to make a bigger distance to him because he was starting to throw gravel all over the road, and a trailer filled with dirt, slinging from one side to the other, is not a good thing going 50mph. Sure enough, all of a sudden, his trailer FLIPS to the opposite side of the road (thank god no one was coming in the other direction, or they would have got it right in the face) and literally pulls the entire car with it, pulling itself AND the car off the road and onto the field next to it. The car lands on it's side and the trailer is 30 yards or something out in the field. We braked, ran to it, but luckily he was able to get out of his car himself, VERY shocked obviously.

The second time it was a family car that got rammed sort of like Aerisky describes it (no police car though), but by the time I was able to get there, a lot of people had already come to the rescue, so when I could see that no one was visibly hurt, I decided to just continue since tons of people at an accident doesn't help anyone.

My advice is go get first aid training (and a lot of it, preferably, since you won't be able to do jack shit when you're shocked yourself if you have to think about what to do) since this will get you confidence in such situations and you know what you'll do and, as important, what NOT to do!

Hope this helps

saw a guy chopped in halves in between the lanes of the highway once.

He was driving a japanese bike like fucking fullthrottle and had just passed me seconds before ( you know sometimes you dont see/hear them until they pass you coz theyre doing 225-250km/h )

well he made a bad manoeuver or something, fumbled, rolled over at light speed and chopped like right in the middle on a wire or something along the road.

that was fucking gruesome

didnt have a cellphone at the time so I couldnt call 911... plz dont judge me lol

Being an Eagle Scout, I've received various emergency training in the past, mostly first aid and CPR. Of course, I've never actually had to use it before, thank goodness, and since it's been a fair number of years, it's long been forgotten. Incidents like these make me reconsider retraining those skills, because you're completely right about not knowing what to do in a tense situation like that, and I'd rather not feel so helpless.

That is great advice. Thank you.

Yeah, I was gonna say....not sure whether calling 911 would have helped in the first place :\ well I guess someone eventually would have had to arrive there to sort out the accident and move the body I guess...

Sounds like something out of Final Destination or something, wow :\

Thanks for sharing the story. And good to know you have learned your lesson: next time call 911 if you are not able to render effective help to the victims.

On the other hand, in my home country, "accidents" can be staged along lonely roads so that the "victims" can mug the unsuspecting samaritan when they stop to help. Happened to my mom's friend who was hospitalised after the muggers whacked and pushed her to the ground after grabbing her handbag (which she fought to hold on to). So in conclusion, its still better to call 911 if an accident happens. I'm not even sure if its a good idea anymore to stay in your vehicle at the site of the accident to keep an eye on the victim.

I figured.... Never really want to give up hope, though, which was why I asked.

Thanks for your stories and support. I've definitely learned a lot from y'all.

I have first aid training.

A few years ago, I was a witness to an accident. An elderly couple in a small car took a left turn right into incoming traffic, and got absolutely smoked by a pickup truck.

The elderly woman in the passenger seat died in the hospital a few days later.

It was not pretty.

EDIT - #2

I've gone to Detroit twice in my life. The first time was alright, the city seems to be okay-ish, but the second time I got shot at (nothing connected, thankfully). I haven't been back since, and have no plans to do so in the future. That shit's scary as fuck.
