I'm sure at least one of you guys have created some sort of rope swing, one which you can launch yourself into the lake. I'm going camping this weekend and am looking for some sort of checklist on what materials to buy, and how to safely latch one onto a tree.
I've looked online, and there's a lot of youtube videos on how to install one, but not actually where to buy all the materials required. I mean yeah, it's a rope but where do you get one that's strong enough?
Yeah I tied a loop in a big rope, threw it over a tree branch real high up and then pulled it tight. then I cut the extra rope and made a hitch knot out of it as a handle.
You get rope from the hardware store, most of them should have their relative strength listed. However basically anything big enough to comfortably hold on is going to be more than strong enough.

All you need is rope, it isn't really difficult. You can of course get as fancy as you want too with quick releases and what not that make attaching/detaching quicker but all you actually need is a rope.
Buy considerably more rope than you think you will need and take something that you can tie to the end to act as a weight to sling over desired branch.
Less/no climbing involved, which you will be thankful for because picking a good place for a swing is better than picking an easy tree to climb.
Any old knot will do, whether you intend to retrieve the rope or not (take a knife). After slinging over and retrieving the end, you can either slide a noose up the line (double up the end, tie a granny knot and run it from the other end if you aren't good with tying in the middle) or have it doubled up (potential for pants-shitting if it decides to shimmy along the branch mid swing with this method, not really advised).
It's just a rope swing, but some things to consider.

Thank you for the only really helpful reply. There still is hope...
And that first youtube video is epic, but no where NEAR something I was considering lol
Don't worry about the shitty replies, some people don't have the mental capacity to figure out that there are kids who never made a rope swing before and take every chance to puff out their chest and prove to themselves and others how much of a man they are.
