BM is something that is really common, whether you see it in a ladder game, on a stream, or chat channel, it's pretty unavoidable. Some people think its funny, others think its unacceptable.
Basically I am making this post because the last 3~ weeks or so I have acted way out of character; i've been quick to anger, in and out of games, and i've also been extremely selfish. Some people might not care, but to me sportsmanship is as equally important as skill; and treating other progamers, the organizers of tournaments, and casters with respect is very important.
I wouldn't make this post if I just had a random outburst of frustration one time; if that were the case I would just apologize personally, forgive myself and move on. But lately i've just been a terrible person all around, and it's something I want to change.
I just got done taking a 4 day or so break from playing, something that I feel like I definitely needed. I think it's too easy to get tunnel vision and only focus on winning when you are grinding game after game each day. In the 4 days I was able to take a step back and really reflect on how i've been acting and thinking, and I decided that I needed a major attitude adjustment. Being given the chance to be a progamer, and to be a part of this amazing community is a privilege, and it's something that I have been taking for granted. It grieves me and it's something that I am going to change.
Sorry to everyone I've mistreated, Lucifron, Bischu, Select Those are just a few players who I was bm to in game. I'll try my very best to treat others with love from now on. I want to be a positive figure in this community, not one of the guys who people look at and say "oh it's RaNgeD, this guy is a jerk."
|
much love ranged, everyone can be a bm idiot, u know major used to be a bm idiot too? all u "progamers" need to and should always try and act "manner", keep ur head up dude.
|
While it's nice to see that you acknowledge your misbehavior, you owe us nothing. But you owe your fellow programers apologies.
|
Sounds similar to what many players have had to deal with including myself. It can give you a bad image but if it's a stressful period, people tend to understand that SC2 is a competitive game promoting rage occasionally.
Come back refreshed with a better mental attitude and people will quickly forget "you as a jerk". Even well-mannered players (maybe not white-ra or Sheth) have outbursts time to time.
|
Hey cool for putting yourself out there and making a positive change. I hope it sticks and you become known as a Sheth on the GM ladder
|
People get angry, i don't think you owe the community a apology, but I thank you for being a good example for all of us.
|
seriously why did you make a post on tl about this. If you want to change and be good dont talk about it be about it. This is nothing more than bringing attenition to yourself.

This is being about it. It's about letting people know that I have remorse and that I am going to change. It's an apology.
|
personally, i feel like you didn't need to apologize to us. however, i really respect your decision to do so. everyone gets mad, im glad someone is taking the right accountability for it.
looking forward to seeing you play in raleigh! :D

Things can be frustrating, but I just wish that other important/sponsored members of the community could act more like this if they do wind up raging. Obviously avoiding actions like that is best, but moments of anger happen to everybody. You just need to learn to take responsibility for what you have done and said.
|
Never heard of you before, now I'm going to think you are a jerk.
Just kidding.
Its good you are taking the first step in solving your BM problem.
|
This post made me rethink my BM behaviour! Thanks RaNgeD for this, I will follow suit and try to match your mannerness!

No worries, BMing is healthy.

Some psychology studies have suggested that catharsis does not operate in certain cases - it fuels the problem! Rage will bring more rage into your life.
|
Catharsis can often be good but raging at random people online is unhealthy, no questions about it. Kukuracha has strongly understated the modern psychological view of this kind of rage.
"Modern psychological opinion is clear on the usefulness of physical non goal-fulfilling cathartic aggression in anger management. "Blowing off steam" may reduce physiological stress in the short term, but this reduction may act as a reward mechanism, reinforcing the behavior and promoting future outbursts."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catharsis#Therapeutic_uses
4 sources for that quote alone and they are all reputable, mostly academic journals
Other forms of catharsis can be helpful but not this, its not healthy, don't tell yourself it is because it feels good. So do opiates.

I have never known you to be BM at all. That goes back to BW as well. Always seemed to be a stand up guy. Though, you do seem to up and quit every so often, but then always come back.

I can relate, I can normally f 10 n out without a gg but sometimes a snide comment comes out ><, especially if its vs a person I don't like either xD.

Who cares, as long as your not making personal attacks about people, or making racist comments. everyone gets mad
