We are so close to having an internationally recognized! It is ALMOST perfect!
We have the amazing personalities that are the players and casters, and have rich and deep story lines that reveal themselves to the viewer in a gripping fashion. The passion of the people is amazing, from watching it in the venue, to watching it in a barcraft, to all you nerds at home!
It is 'apparently' going to be broadcasted on TV later this year. And it is competitive. Starcraft is a sport anyone can play as long as they have a computer and internet, and can compete with anyone in the world.
This has everything it needs to draw other people in....except the money T_T
MLG has had everything necessary APART from the prize pool. Lets face it, $25,000 for first place is nothing to what a major tournament should be offering.
I'm only saying this now because I feel it is the only thing that is making people not take it seriously. I believe the bigger it grows, the bigger the prizes get, and the more people will be interested. It will take time, but when it happens it will finally join the ranks of other sports around the globe...
So thank the sponsors after a tournament dammit!

Remember that big thread about thanking Red Bull after the Red Bull LAN? Keep doing that guys! Every time you buy a big product (like a TV from LG for sponsoring LG-IM) send them a email saying "I recently bought a TV from you guys because you guys support E-sports! Keep going! You can do it for everyone. If we get someone to list a giant throng of every big donator, and their contact info. It would be an amazing way for E-Sports to be awesomer.

For pete's sake, 25k for and everyone in the top 16 getting a decent prize is not a reason to complain about what so ever. The prize pool size was fine, they decided to distribute it to a larger chunk of the player pool and that is up to personal opinion of which is better. But yes we should be thanking the sponors for putting together an awesome event, and putting up something like $78,000 for one of two sc2 tournements happening in the same place on the same weekend, to say nothing about the other esports prize pools (which i have no idea about the size of). Yes most people on teamliquid would prefer more of that money to go into sc2, there was a huge amount of money involved in esports this weekend.

I agree it'd help a lot, even though it's pretty big already.

We need to get more big veiwer numbers before the prize pools get bigger, the sponsors need to see more veiwers ,and more people seeing their advertisments before they will put in more money. if the veiwer numbres where as good as i have heard we may see more sponsors get involved, but veiwers need to come first for it to make bussines sense to put more advertising ( i.e. sponsoring a tournement) into e-sports.

I wouldn't be complaining about $25,000.00 for 3 days (That's $625 hourly for the standard 40 hour work week). That's more then some people make annually. Also, don't forget that MLG has 4 other tournaments running alongside StarCraft II, which also have prize pools.

25.000 is nothing. bowling tourneys have bigger prize pools. hell I guess even Nathan's hot dog contest might have a bigger purse.
problem is only 1 dude will get 25k. most of the others will go empty handed...
Even Happy Gilmore collected a fat check after he sucked at the open. lol :D

The prizepool is certainly a lot better than last year's. 5k for first place? The circuit prizepools last year was laughable, but I think the prizepool, while they could always be higher, aren't too bad right now.

You can't compare the prize pool of a sport that has existed for centuries (Bowling) to something that has existed for two years (StarCraft II).

MLG " could " increase the prize pool of first place, but they would have to take away from what everyone else gets.
The question is what's more important to you, giving the winner a huge prize or giving everyone in the top 16 a decent amount for what they achieved?
Second place at MLG is 15 thousand, only 10 thousand behind first place. Would you suggest lowering that and increasing first place?
The prize money given out in the entire event was $76,000 I would say that's quite a bit, It's just not top heavy.

He means more money overall, more sponsors, more monies, more everything.
