This is my theory completely based on my opinion and I have absolutely no evidence to back it up. Enjoy in the discussion.

So I was thinking. TvT is basically WW1 until late game with cattlebruisers. Tank lines are the artilery and machine guns, cutting the poor bastard marines in half. Ghost's are the snipers, and marines are the everyday soldiers.

Therefore when blizzard announced the shredder in HotS I nearly shat myself. They patched in the barbed wire. This convinced me that blizzard wanted TvT to become a recreation of WW1.

So this posed several questions. Will knowing WW1 tactics help your SC2 TvT?
Also anybody else think of zerg as gorilla soldiers?
Finally, what the hell would protoss be in modern terms?
Also the different match-ups could be recreations of wars of the past.

Also a final question, if the Terran are stuck in WW1 tactics, how the fuck did they make it into space?
Am I the only history buff who sees the connections?

Remember TL, keep it playful

I don't really see how this applies to SC2. I mean, i definately see the art of mech in a BW TvT but SC2 just isn't the same. People not fighting for a position as much and more trying to go around it, siege tanks can't lock down anything anyway because they do almost no damage and the general size of everything is not the same. In BW 2 zealots on a ramp can kill 14 zerglings, in SC2 can you make a zergling tight block on a ramp ? I don't play toss but i'm pretty sure you can't. For SC2 siege tanks to give half as much control as BW ones, they'd need to actually do damage and range should be increased ( possibly radius too ). Add to that the thor busts we could see not long ago ( completely retarded imo ). Then there's bio which is completely random. He's got more marines than me so i guess he wins, i moved out with my mech and he found a weakness in my turret ring so i guess he wins.

TLDR : sc2 TvT has nothing to do with trench wars. I'd even say that they kept the siege tanks mostly because it was a famous icon from the original game, kinda like how zergs have hydras even tho they don't actually serve any real purpose ( not that we never see hydras used, but they are kind of redundant )

You forgot medivacs. TvT is much more mobile than trench warfare.

It actually doesn't resemble it at all, as there is no defensive bonus to troops that stand still, and battles are usually decisive, rather than WWI's war of attrition.

And pulled SCV's to repair. Hmm would be an interesting custom map lol

Hmm they did have aircraft, but they weren't very effective. Like if squirtle used bubble. I think medivacs and vikings would be blinks and flighter dual-winged planes

Infantry are acceptable losses, the war takes forever, flying stuff are so slow, we require more minerals.

Like carriers! lol. I don't know anything about broodwar, but SC2 is pretty dope with the tank lines. There was a whole season of GSL of TvT's. Ahh the golden era... Bio might be pre WW1 where people walked into each other in lines and shot the shit out of each other. Maybe the American Revolution, or the Old european wars that I do not know the history off. Maybe napoleon?

Obviously Terran is the Germans, who simply weather every assault with defensive smarts until blitzkreiging forward with another surprise attack.
Zerg is the Russians, who don't have the weapons to equip more than a quarter of their soldiers but just throw wave after wave at the enemy until they eventually break.
Protoss would be the United States, who are quite weak early on and need time to build up, but once they get rolling they never stop.

War isn't fun, don't compare a fucking video game to one of the worse nightmares of mankind.

He was comparing the tactics and pace of how world war 1 worked out to how the slow moving tank lines work in TvT. His post wasn't childish, but yours is.

If you knew anything about war and strategy history you would know that there is no comparison between a tank line and a Gamelin hole.

But then again, maybe Pokebunny is a fine tactician and would fit nicely in Saint-Cyr, right?

Pointless.

Now that I think about it the way that I played tvt back when tanks did more damage and I was in the lower leagues is really similar to WW1 in the ways that you are comparing them. Now it is very different and somewhat less fun.

I suck at haikus otherwise I would have included one.

Also some people don't know what keep it playful means I guess

This thread has nothing to do with me, but my name was randomly mentioned, so I felt the need to post.

I am a masterful tactician.

When I see a game of TvT it makes me think of how WW1 transpired, thats how I think. Sorry if my post offend you, but you don't have to respond to it if you did not like it. Toss me a 0/5 and be on your way.

Thanks bro glad you liked it. It does seem that this has become a haiku blog . Maybe we should create a trozz fanclub where every post is a haiku in honor of the man himself.
