I have been playing protoss almost since I started SC2. I climbed the ladder and during season 6 achieved my goal of Master league.

I didn't get to play much during S6, and I think I'd like to start playing zerg. The problem is: there is no way I am close to Master level zerg. More likely platinum. I have no idea what to do.

I could play 2v2 or 3v3 with zerg for a while to try and get used to them, but I don't really like team games.

I could play customs, but I don't really have friends who play.

I could play 1;1 until I start to win games, but I feel like the first 10 hours of play time would be me losing to the first aggression I encounter every game.

I could forfeit a bunch of 1;1 games instantly until I'm ranked somewhere I want to start, but that feels dirty somehow.

Help me TL, you're my only hope. I'm sure you guys know which option is best, or what options I am forgetting.

Thanks BNet 2.0...

If only there was some kind of system where you could... freely make a new account to challenge people on...

I think I'll call it ICCup!

Use chat channels like sc2improve to find people to play. Because you are masters you probably have a good idea of how to play zerg but are just not familiar with the mechanics. So I suggest just go ahead and play. It's really no mystery, go ling/infestor or ling/bling/muta in ZvT, Stephano style in ZvP and 14/14 in ZvZ

Or wait until HotS comes out ^_^

Using chat channels for custom games is a great idea.

Well, you could compromise and try to do joke builds with the purpose of losing. Or perhaps play with random handicaps like zoomed-in for the entire game or upside-down monitor or mouse-only or something. But you have to lose even in a winning position.

That's what I did to get my brother's account down to Bronze. It feels a bit less dirty than auto-quitting, and I had a few memorably hilarious games here and there.

Buy/borrow/steal a new account is a viable option, too.

Apart from the really good tips of joining custom chat channels.

I suggest you just bite your tounge and accept that you will loose before you get to your desired opponent level with zerg. If you count losing as nothing but an ability to learn i think you can get a lot of hard earned experience while falling down the ladder.

I think you should accept the attitude that losing, even too the first aggression you encounter is something that doesn't matter in the long run, and the time you spend losing to superior opponents, is trivial compared to the final purpose of improving and then winning.

Even though losing may seem demoralising, remember: Improve to win, don't win to improve :D

Of course i agree that it is ridicoulous of blizzard to not account for race switching in their matchmaking, but i guess the easy way out would be to buy another account.

If you want to offrace and don't have a smurf, just do it. You WILL lose. A LOT. But then you'll start winning, and you'll find your skill level, and hopefully get better.

Ladder rank is serious business. Just do customs or 1v1.

Or find random lowbies to play with, those guys love doing customs

Just play ladder, you'll learn way more from getting crushed from good players. Think of it as a hyperbolic time chamber for your other races.

Leave games, if your not doing it for the wrong reasons ie: to beat up on bronze players or farm portraits/achievements/whatever then its good for everybody. Everyone you leave against is always a little happier after a free win.

It doesn't work like that, even when you get 5 placement matches, you're still affected by previous rank. I played 5 placements on my smurf account, barely got gold. Waited a few seasons, played 5 placements where I lost 3 on purpose, got high gold. There's no way I should get high gold from beating two bronzies in placements.

Unless you're willing to figure out your new race's skill level and find practice partners -- or better yet, buy a smurf, theres no magic solution other than to simply eat the losses and play. Once you do, and get back to your original rank you'll feel much better. Everything takes time and practice.

edit: I'd highly recommend a smurf. Find friends who quit (I have a ton of them). It's against bnet policy and you run the 1% risk bnet will ban you for different IP's, but it's never happened to me nor any of my friends in 8+ years. Not in D2, WoW, or SC2.

Just change it. Who cares if you lose a lot, the first games will be you getting used to opening with zerg and trying to get a good game going. Having good people beating you will be much more beneficial than having bad people letting you get away with mistakes. Leaving on purpose doesn't matter at all unless you "need" to win games vs worse players to feel good about yourself.

If you read up on some openers beforehand, and can adapt into them somewhat fast, you should be fine if you have good habits from your protoss time. You might actually find ZvP your strongest matchup as well

This problem kinda keeps me from offracing, yes i could try looking for people to play some customs etc But in the i couldnt ladder and if i wanted to lose games while offracing but later came back to my main race i would need to win 20 games against scrubs to get back, so flawed.

If you don't want to buy a new account, you're going to have to just switch to Zerg and tank your Protoss rank. It's too bad, but it's the only alternative x.x

Then buy a smurf.

You're misunderstanding how bnet works. Your description is perfectly normal behaviour. Also you couldn't possibly get "high gold" out of placements, you get placed with 0pts.

I personally tested it with 3 accounts. SS proof: http://imgur.com/a/yVt5t

You could get placed in a division that's not yet full. I've gotten placed in a new division that only had a few spots (which quickly got filled up, mind you).

Obviously, it doesn't mean much to say you're Top 8 when there's only 8 people in your division, but I think it's quite obvious that the first few people who play in the new season will get placed in a division and have a gold star icon until other people fill up their division.

But barring these exceptions, I agree with you about how you're placed in a league with zero points, not in a league with the purposeful intention by the MMR system to put you at low, middle, or high. It's just however full the division happens to be.

I think I'll just forfeit games until I'm in platinum or gold and work up from there.

I really like ladder, but the prospect of losing 25 games in a row is pretty bleak.

I highly doubt that college admins will allow you to "change" your race just to gain access to some diversity scholarships.
