As a swede who has traveled alone through germany couple of time without knowing any german at all i can confirm english is not the most viable language in Germany, of course some people speak really good english, but you can't count on that you can ask a stranger for directions, not because they dont want to but rather cos of a language barrier. Also, the funny thing is that many germans who speaks english says that all germans speaks good english.. but this is far from the truth! ![]() On March 13 2012 04:42 ragnorr wrote: It is expensive as hell to get hotels during cebit and IEM dont have unlimited funds. It should not really be a suprice to anyone the fact that IEM took some of the cheapest offers they have available, if the players dont like it they should either not go or pay them self for better rooms.(Which you have to do months in advance to get any sort of decent price) I think one of the big problems with the past IEM WC is the fact that it was hosted at Cebit. In a city that nearly doubles in size for that week, obviously this will lead to issues with hostels and hotels, not to talk about the cramped schedule with gaming between 0900-1800 local time, finals played at 12 on saturday. I think nearly all the complaints with IEM WC has derived from the descision to hold it at Cebit, allthough i think the ESL guys did a great job with what they got. ![]() Edit: Allthough.. if IEM was responsible for your hostels and this happened, then it wasnt really handled that properly.

Bring a paper copy of everything that may be remotely relevant information, print out all vouchers and contact information. Research whether or not your phone will work beforehand. There are multiple standards internationally, hell, even within the US. Always store every phone number with the international prefix, that's '+' followed by the country code.

If you can talk any bit of German always try talking it and point until they ask you to switch to English. 2. If you cannot for the life of you talk German, talk Icelandic(or in Select's case korean) until they ask you to switch to English ![]() ![]()

We started two World Wars, how friendly do you think we are!? Seriously, I feel bad for Select. Imagine being lost in Seoul with no freaking clue about anything. Also, it's true that most Germans' English is pretty bad, so no big help there either. In the end, always bring important information on paper, I guess.

EG TO SELECT DRAMA COMMENCE na but gratz on new contract yea i said it, EG to select, he is that smooth I think I would quite like an EGSeleCT. Feel like it would be better exposure for him as a player. EG knows how to treat its staff... But with the level of player that EG's looking for... Here's to SeleCT beating the living HELL out of some Tournaments in 2012!

The reason why they didn't have the best housing available at IEM is because they had the event during CEBIT one of the largest events in Germany, most hotels were booked 6 months in advanced. Had nothing to do with lack of money.
