Past couple days I've been getting tired of "standard" play, mainly against Zerg, as my PvT is a bit bad and PvP is really never standard game play. Some games I'll scout positions after FFE, and decide right there:
"I'm going to do fast +1 5 gate pressure, snipe the third hatch, add more gates and a robo while taking a third and pressure again with 4 immortals." or I'll tell myself

"Fast DT shrine, 4 DTs to snipe the third and as it dies I'm pushing with +2 blink stalkers and killing him because 1/3 of his production is gone and can't defend."

every time I do this it seems to work, anyone else find that these work out for you when you arbitrarily do new strategies?

I think it might be working better for you because you are adapting to the changing conditions of the game, instead of picking a strategy beforehand and not adjusting to changes.

yea, part of a strategy game is to adapt to your opponent's strategy and try to exploit holes in it

I think there are a few different "styles" of play. Personally I prefer to play highly reactive. I think in general everyone needs to be reactive to a degree, just like you need to be standard to a degree.

Yeah, that happened when I went nothing but immortals against zerg once.

Someone was tired of roaches.

That really happens whenever I am tired of losing to a unit.

i love adapting and sometimes say it outloud while playing. reaction is the key in a game like starcraft.

taking quick 4th? timing push. 2 base play? turtle.

I remember a few months back when I played actively just busting out weird strats to take out annoying builds, really enjoyed doing it since my opponents really never knew what hit them. Eventually people started catching on but in the meantime it was great
